King Charles orders Harry and Meghan to be treated like ordinary citizens

Apparently an order has gone out from King Charles saying that Harry and Meghan are to be treated like ordinary citizens as they are not working members of the royal family. That's according to the DM so it must be right. The thought of those two being pleased at being ordinary is too much.

I wonder just how low they will keep their profile and if it's to do with them wishing to be involved in charities. I wouldn't be surprised if they try to set up their own mock royal court.

I think it’s rather undignified and a bit spiteful to publish such a letter regarding your own children, regardless of what you’ve been through with them. Most ordinary people would never do it. No love lost in that ‘family ‘.

"Children"? There's only one 'child' concerned and he's 41. Hardly a toddler.

And Charles isn't 'ordinary people'. He's a King. A Head of State. As such he has responsibilities towards the government offices to whom the letter was addressed. Also, it's basically just clarifying the arrangement which was made public several years ago. Nothing undignified about it. What's undignified is playing faux royal having flounced out in high dudgeon.

I agree, it's a poor show, I suppose a sightly posh version of airing your dirty laundry publicly. It seems very sad that this letter has zero affection or goodwill from Father to son, if this was meant to endear KC to the public, surely the wording could have been improved?

It’s an official statement from our Head of State to the Government not a pandering letter to Harry.

IcedPurple · 07/09/2026 22:37

The whole discussion about Camilla as Queen has become an annoying derail now.

MidlyConcerned · 07/09/2026 22:38

damnatiomemoriae · 07/09/2026 22:28

That is true.

However times and opinions change. And the late Queen was gracious enough to realise that.

I wonder if she would have ever mellowed about M.

Ooooo interesting question damn.

Personally I think QE was a strong monarch and always put the nation first, well except for her blind spot Andrew, but I think she would have stripped them of their titles. She saw first hand how her father’s brother wrecked his life and wouldn’t want the same for William.

I thought it was very clear they are free of the burden of duty to king and country. There is no malice in the missivd

As opposed to what? Smothering mummy’s cream on your manky boaby?

Calling your family racist?

People keep saying this letter is nothing new. They are right. It isn’t. It is merely a reminder for anyone concerned that they are no longer working royals - which they chose for themselves - and was worded perfectly.

I am actually laughing at your interpretations and transparent determination in your one upmanship, it's pathetic to read.

As before, I perfectly understand how RAVEC works, it's a shame so many on here and the numerous threads on this clearly do not. At all.

But then these are the same people referring to people they have never met in derogatory ways, this couple can't win, whatever they do (or not). FWIW I have no desire to see them being working royals any more than I want to purchase mass produced jam. That doesn't equate though to me wishing complete strangers, or their children ill.

Hey, Girl 👋
Your personal insults have already been deleted on the thread. Not sure if you were aware it’s against the rules but I also find it’s a more enjoyable conversation without that shit.

To me the statement seems preemptive rather than reactive, which is unusual for palace statements. I think they may have been influential in KC3's decision to issue it now.

LaMarschallin · 07/09/2026 22:46

It's odd.

If you read the beginning of this thread, the letter was issued (once it became clear it wasn't an invention of the nasty DM*) with the collaboration and conjunction of the Sussexes.
It merely clarified the previous Sandringham Agreement and, actually, would be helpful because it would shield the Sussexes from the nasty press by emphasising their right to privacy.

I don't understand why that's all changed.

*Awks 😳

Charles, Camilla & Anne will be gone soon.

Is it only William and Kate that ‘work’ now? Edward and Sophie I suppose, too (not sure what they do?). I mean, who else is there? Disgraced Andrew and Fergie, their questionable daughters…

It’s slim pickings.

Amen.

The days when a whole pack of royals had to be deployed to fetes, events, openings etc so that they got to be seen by people without TVs is gone.

OneLilacHedgehog · 07/09/2026 22:49

King Charles would do well to follow his mother's example and simply say nothing.
She reportedly thought he would not be a good king and I tend to agree. He did not have to say anything.

Yes they just get their staff to issue statements and take lots of photos once a year.

You do know people had TV when Elizabeth was queen?

Say nothing? Do nothing? Passively allow all this nonsense to continue?
Unlikely. As unlikely as slagging her heir off, I would suggest.

What does “treating them like ordinary citizens” mean?

When a working royal visit e.g. a commnity landshare, certain formalities are observed because they are representing the HoS. For example, the local Lord Lieutenant might be required to attend.

When an ordinary citizen shows, no such considerations apply.

I've just been watching Sky news. One of the royal commentators reportedly said 'nothing has changed yet everything has changed.' Jenni bond iirc. The King has spellt it out. Go away grifters and don't think you can hang on to the coat tails of royalty. You can't. Harry already saying he will be marking armistice with his own military charity. And this letter has gone out to all military chiefs. It's huge.

“Harry is already saying he will be marking armistice with his own military charity” where did you see that @Viviennemary?

It doesn’t surprise me though. He obviously doesn’t realise how much he is held in contempt by the military community!!

Yes it’s the biggest slap down we have seen of the Sussexes, for the Head of State to make and official statement to the relevant senior stakeholders across government, the military and Lord Lieutenancies is, as far as I know unprecedented, the nothing to see here attitude is rather odd.

Booboobagins · 07/09/2026 23:00

It doesn't matter if they are working royals or not, he is a Prince, son of the King and brother to the next in line. They are royalty.

I like Harry. I dont know Megan but I like her drive and energy about womens rights and equality.

So much poison is written about them because at a vulnerable time, he published a book he probably regrets now. Hands up who hasnt done something they regret to a family member. Sadly his was in full view of the public, but still...

I wish them luck.

I thought it was Charles illness but that aside I have no idea. They seemed to be happy in the USA and would have less hate there.

Mr Markle's illness, on the other hand, sparked no such rapprochement.

But he hasn’t said anything new. 🤷🏽

He has merely repeated the agreement - apparently with the collaboration of the Sussex family.

Some may be struggling on how to conduct matters with the Sussex family given that they have chosen to come back to the UK.

All this has confirmed is that they are still non working Royals. As they wished.

KC has merely made clear that the Sussex wishes remain unchanged and in a nutshell, they don’t want to be anything other than normal citizens. Call me Harry, etc., would suit them better.

As it has appeared to some, the lines became blurred a bit. This has just made it totally clear. For the benefit of all involved.

I am no more fretting than you appear to be frothing here,

Classic! Are you sure I'm not spewing? Spoiler alert, I'm actually laughing!

There are many others I would far rather not fund than HAM, who have done far more harm than these two, yet these are the responsibility of the British taxpayer too?

If someone has held public office and as a result knows state secrets which could be compromised if that person were to be kidnapped, then yes, they are the responsibility of the British taxpayer.

The same does not apply to the aspiring influencer and her intellectually challenged layabout husband.

As I said before, I really don't think you understand how RAVEC work. At all.

You're playing chess...

My hand is up ✋🏼. I've never written a book invading the privacy and spilling secrets of loved ones. For money.
Then doubling down with interviews. For money.
Harry has.
We know he's a Prince. It's of utmost importance to him. That doesn't mean he's allowed to behave exactly as he pleases with no repercussions.
