The late Queens mother was also called Elizabeth and I think within the family there’s a certain protocol concerning the name.

Entertaining interview with Plum Sykes on The Royalist Tom Sykes and the Daily Beast on YouTube channel last night. She gives the lowdown on how HAM are likely to be received by the 'locals', especially at the school gates where currently the parents are 'pretend annoyed' which is like humble bragging, the difference between the Cotswolds (old money, aristocracy) and the Notswolds (the area north of the M40) which is inhabited by new money, flashy types, celebrities. She's very engaging and funny. The episode is called 'Harry & Meghan's Secret New Project Exposed' and the interview with Plum starts st 30m.32s. Well worth a watch.

You're right, it's cringeworthy. Unlike your Grandmother's pet name, this name definitely has clear associations for future benefits.

He's a really good British actor - I can't say who it was - and I was/am still a fan of his work. I was very disappointed he was such a vain, silly rather paranoid man in real life! Maybe he'd had bad experiences that I know nothing of....

At one London Comprehensive, I taught several children of high ranking Labour MPs, and also famous actors/musicians . I briefly taught one of the Blair children.
There was never any fuss, no photos, no bother on the school run, no problems at all.

Thing is, both Charles AND Diana did the respective parents' races in their day - Diana got more coverage and did better, but Charles gave it a go too.

I think Meghan would love the Diana comparison (again!) but would be worried about her running not measuring up against the clearly sporty Catherine. Security will probably be a reason for not participating 🙄

Sorry off topic but reminds me of several decades ago I was perusing a menu in a restaurant window in The Hamptons. Then I saw the man seated inside was winking, inclining his head and he took a small bow. Then I noticed it was Alex Baldwin! He assumed I was ogling him and not the price list!

It's been pointed out before that, while both women have enviable slim figures, Catherine has a long body and short legs (proportionally - they're long by most standards!) and Meghan has a short body and very long legs.

So really Meghan should be ideally suited to a parents' race!

Ugh! Sympathy - I've had similar, though not with a celeb. Earnestly studying something else, only to realise that a vain nearby bloke thought I was admiring him. The preening was embarrssing. So irritating!

After playing Mr Darcy in Pride and Prejudice, Colin Firth did an interview. That was enough to make me realise when I admired actors it was actually the role that I admired, not the actor, and that was written and directed by others. At most I may like their acting ability. I never understand why when famous actors speak of matters of public import or interest we should be expected to consider them any more relevant than my ordinary next door neighbour.

Quite, @Chrysanthemumsinpots and, I’ll whisper this, the people at school who were aspiring actors were…. not the brightest. Then to see them pontificating about politics 😡

Doubt it. It didn’t stop her formulating scented candles with the aroma of Lili and Archie to flog alongside all her other tat.

Who on earth would want the aroma of someone’s else’s kids wafting around their home.

Maybe someone grandiose and delusional enough to believe their DC are so exceptional and / or cringe and crass enough to rinse her own DCs identity for cash.

I totally agree. I'm put of any celebrity who regales us with their political views. Why are their views of more significance than yours or mine? They just have a platform. I've gone off many a virtue-signalling actor, unfortunately. I have a particular scepticism about the left-wing actors who send their children to private schools (the one I mentioned was a big Labour supporter).

I think Ricky Gervais has made this point a few times, and they don't like him for it!

I remember the teenage years....not always fondly!

But I would imagine it would be easier to achieve in an exclusive prep school. the parents will be wealthy and hopefully unimpressed by other wealthy parents and the staff will be used to dealing with well-known 'customers'. Plus, the whole school community is much smaller than a comp and easier to communicate with.
