Meghanlomaniac ? 🤔😁

@jeffgoldblum , that’s some Armando Iannucci-an level wordplay. Right up there with “Mal-chiavellian”.
(That’s for whomever is my fellow Thick of It fan on this thread.)

Bizarre to me, but I thought that was implied.

I just got to the thread though. How about you?

What do you mean, how about you?

Cleary I haven't just got to the thread, because as I said I've seen a reference to Meghan's head bobbing up and down for pay (her acting role) on this thread, as well as on others.

I really don’t know how to respond to this post because you have made so many incorrect assumptions about me and twisted a reply that I made specifically to one poster called PigglyWigglyOhYeah .

Therefore I don’t understand why you saying “all” or or “we” unless you have set yourself up to speak on behalf of everyone here?

I stand by my opinion that some people in the uk were upset that Harry didn’t choose a white young aristocrat to be his bride and indeed some extremists were arrested and jailed for expressing that view in a threatening manner. One infamous radio presenter tweeted a cartoon with H&M’s future child represented as a chimpanzee fhs so it’s not an unreasonable thing to write.

I am sorry that you have personally faced such terrible racism.

And I afraid I don’t really care if you think I am a fan of H and M or not. I know it’s easy enough to come to that conclusion from what I have posted but I’m not actually. I don’t know them.

I am just someone who happens to believe that it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that there were faults on both sides , that MM may have faced some racism, unconscious or otherwise, while working for the RF, and that the two worlds of British hierarchical traditional monarchy v Californian celebrity culture were completely opposite and incompatible. That one isn’t necessarily innately superior to the other. And what ensued wasn’t all one person’s fault.

And above all, I think that all of the noise and diatribes against this couple have gone too far now. They have already been destroyed by the media in UK, USA and Australia? What more do people want?

I know these opinions are generally not welcome on this thread but I reserve my right to express them from time to time.

And Dandy was doing nothing of the sort. At all. It's unfair to accuse her of that. It was very clear she was explaining her own absence. Interesting that she said she was sorry to hear you had had cancer, but you didn't do it back.

Why would I? , I neither solicited the information or expected it .

Wasn’t it clear? I didn’t see all of that. So now I understand it’s in reference to Meghan’s acting role. Thank you.

Is referring to it misogynist? I find it convoluted these days because of the movement to describe sex work as empowering for women.

Basic manners imo. Are you really telling me that if someone IRL or even on MN unexpectedly told you that they had cancer, you wouldn't say "sorry to hear that"? Ok, you do you.

FayeMumsnet · 31/08/2026 17:49

Hi all.

Just popping back on the thread with a gentle reminder to keep things focused on the topic, please. Back-and-forth arguments between posters can quickly take the discussion off track and make it less enjoyable for everyone else taking part.

We'd really appreciate it if everyone could move on and stick to the original discussion. If the arguing continues, we'll need to start removing posts that derail the thread or breach our Talk Guidelines.

Thanks all. 🌷

The bobbing was me.

It was narf all to do with prostitution.

Bob is a nod to her cookie Girl Scout endeavours -‘Bob a job’ was a thing in my time. You got paid a bob for doing a job.

Please lord M got more for her jobs…

Also bob was a term we used for a perfunctory curtsy. No reverence - used for those who demanded/expected it. Dropping a bob. We wheeled out the real ones for actual royals.

How strange you thought it was to do with anything sexual lemon. 🤷🏽

OliveMyLove · 31/08/2026 17:54

It does make me think though about how odd it would be to see the King Charles’ Daughter-in-law in a sexual situation on the Telly.

And Guy Ritchie shows include some rather shocking violence. I hope it wasn’t a serious consideration for Meghan.

Kirschcherries · 31/08/2026 17:54

@FayeMumsnet Thank you.

I dip in and out of this long running thread and for some reason we have strayed away from discussing H&Ms PR strategy.

I think the PR strategy of trying to bounce RAVEC in to making a decision on the level of risk and the appropriate security provision could seriously backfire.

It is disrespectful not to give RAVEC the required 28 days notice, particularly with such a massive change of circumstances.

She’d be best off getting on a show with Dame Mary Berry.

Only niceness. No violence. No anything sexy.

Just wholesomeness.

The new Little House on the Prairie maybe?

That way it couldn’t be mistaken for anything other than acting. 🎭

She’s hardly likely to have been born in frontier like times…

Wholesome would be a pr coup.

Oh please STOP with this.
Danny Baker tweeted -or out on some other platform- a picture of a rather upper class couple, in the 1930s (ish) with a chimp between them fully dressed. He used it because he found it funny. He had been using it for years when people had a baby because, again, he thought it was funny.
He was brought up in an age where we all thought the PGTips adverts were funny. I still do. They are much better than adverts about periods and condoms.

He said he didn’t know MM was mixed race and in all honesty with that dark, straight hair and rather pale skin unless you had read about her you might not hve known. DH doesn’t give a shit about the RF and knows very very little as he never reads an article about them.
He got piled on. He removed the picture. He apologised.
If that is really the worst example of ‘racism’ then MM got off lightly.
Some of the ‘body shaming’ stuff that was written about the former Duchess of York was with hindsight horrifying. Do you bang on about tht and how dreadful it was for her -or just go on about Meghan having ‘exotic’ blood and a writer tweeting a picture Hedidnt realise was offensive??

BasiliskStare · 31/08/2026 18:15

I think anyone who thinks Princess Michael is in any way representative of the entire RF is mistaken.

Edited to substitute "representative" to make better sense.

Hostamenace689 · 31/08/2026 18:15

BasiliskStare · 31/08/2026 17:19

@Hostamenace689 - Thank you . I for one like proper discussion on these threads.

Yes I agree. Ghana are vocal on reparations. I have no idea why my son is such an expert on Commonwealth matters , but he said Ghana are leading an initiative for reparations ( I wanted to say Comicon , but luckily checked and it is Caricom - they are two very different things 😊) . UK government is holding fast to not paying reparations for historic events. However I think there are ongoing discussions , not just about financial reparations , or official apologies , but also making available records for genealogical research inter alia , but also proper talks about the situation.

Look , @Hostamenace689 , I'm running out of knowledge here so I'm not going to claim knowledge I don't have. But I would say the whole situation with the Commonwealth , historically and present day , is more nuanced than just calling it Empire 2.0. I think we might be in agreement on that. But I for one am running out of facts, So I'll stop until I know some more. 💐

😀 @ Comicon! 😆

Yes I think we definitely are in agreement that the situation with the Commonwealth is more nuanced, especially as more and more are becoming republics and the alliance is gradually entering a new phase which is distancing itself from the past, but I can also understand why some do still see it as Empire 2.0 while KC3 is still it’s head. I think it is possible to see both sides of that.

William I think is less bound by associations with the late Queen Elizabeth on this subject and it will be fascinating to see how he withdraws from the role of symbolic head, if and when he does, and if I recall he made a very good speech about being more interested in listening than leading to that end.

As an aside, I find it interesting that historians and campaigns advocating for reparatory justice often encounter the exact same archival roadblocks that Andrew Lownie fights against.

Very much agree that it’s a very interesting discussion and I definitely need to read up more.

I agree that Harry is attempting to bounce RAVEC into giving him the security he's been campaigning for since he left. I seriously doubt it will be effectively. Harry seems to think the entire country is run according to who he thinks is popular with the public. Delusional on so many levels.

He would be far better advised to take a step back, enjoy a quiet life in the country with his children and occasionally make low key visits in support of the few charities he has left.

He won't though.

I have to disagree with you here, @DaisyDooley . If DB didn't know or realise that M was biracial, when he was presenting a show on national talk radio, he was a moron. BBC presenters get briefed on, and ae expected to be across, the big stories of the day - which stories will vary depending if you're on radio 1/2/3/4/5 etc. But this was everywhere. So the possibilities are he was racist or an incompetent moron. Or both.

With respect, I think you should stop there, to use your own style of vernacular.

How anyone can defend Danny Baker is beyond me!

Of course the PG Tips chimps were seen as amusing at the time. It was linking them to H&M’s child leaving hospital that was deeply offensive.

If you can’t understand that then no words I write here can make any difference.

Kirschcherries · 31/08/2026 18:32

I am no expert on the Commonwealth but having visited several Caribbean countries their histories are interesting and varied and this leads to a very different feel. It’s clear the British have left a lasting legacy, some of which appears positive e.g. education systems , National Insurance and pensions etc.

Several countries still have strong links back to other European countries, not just with Britain e.g. the Netherlands.

Covid devastated the economies of many Caribbean countries where tourism is the number 1 industry. What concerns me is in some non- commonwealth countries it is obvious there is a significant amount of Chinese investment in infrastructure and I believe the same applies to some African countries.

The Commonwealth is changing and growing and I believe it can adapt to support countries to become independent but to benefit from working together.

Agree with you but he won't live a quiet life. He thrives on chaos, drama , hatred and bitterness (particularly in relation to his brother and sister in law). I really hope Ravec don't bend for him and he buggers off back to US(if has allowed back in)

BasiliskStare · 31/08/2026 18:37

Further to @MrsLeonFarrell 's point about bouncing Ravec. If you read any article in favour of Harry getting Govt funded 24 / 7 security the comments from readers below the article are almost universally - no we the taxpayers do not want to pay this. That's the Times , Telegraph and DM in my experience. Now the truth is Harry will have as much influence on Ravec's decision as all those members of the general public - ie none. Why he is trying to influence this through leaks I can't imagine - well I can because Harry. I'll keep stropping until I get it. He really ought to keep quiet on this matter I think, because if he does get any / partial tax payer funded security I think it will be unpopular. So much better for him to let Ravec do their job quietly. I do think he thinks he can make things so by trying to bounce things in his favour by headline leakage. KC going to the IG games next year I would count as another example. Harry is patron. It is not a Royal patronage. KC doesn't need to go. I hope the MIGS come up with an answer . I think it was @bluegreygreen on another thread who suggested a reception for the ex-service people. Could be BP or indeed as there aren't actually that many of them I think KC has a reception space at Highgrove. I think that idea has legs. I for one am bored with H or "sources" leaking things in the hope that if they say it , it will make it so.
