Not clear to you. Perhaps I could have made it clearer but it was within the context of not being on these threads regularly/much/at all over the past 5-6 years. I gave the first reason being that I was ill, and the second and third that I get bored by repetition and don't like unnecessarily vitriol. The threads were mad in 2020 & 2021. And yes, some of the misogyny was overt.

No, it wasn't clear to me, I literally said that.
No need for the italics.

@Hostamenace689 "To be fair, Prince Charles and William have done a lot to counter this impression but you do know that some commentators see the Commonwealth as “Empire 2.0.” anc the entire institution as racist given that so much of its wealth was acquired by slavery."

Yes many commentators see the Commonwealth as such. However the Commonwealth is a voluntary association and so anyone is free to leave ( and some have) . I think calling the Commonwealth Empire.20 is a lazy trope. It is also true that some nations are very happy to be part of the modern Commonwealth. One example - rather than these nations having to maintain a Supreme Court , they can use the UK's related sister institution, the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council (JCPC), as their highest court of appeal. Anecdotally my son was speaking to a lawyer who practised in the Bahamas and said "What's not to like?" . Gabon and Toga joined in 2022. Zimbabwe was suspended because of human rights and I think their readmission is pending. So my point is eg Bouzy's Cole's notes explanation of the modern Commonwealth doesn't quite pass more critical analysis than a segment on the H&M docuseries. People will have their opinions on the Commonwealth , but the original Empire it isn't.

(I'll just give shout out to my son who once explained to me how some who try to explain the Commonwealth do not have all the facts , or choose not to use them ) I'm not an expert so happy to be contradicted on my views.

ETA @Hostamenace689 - just to be clear I note you said some commentators. My post is not aimed at you personally.

Edited

Noted and understood BasiliskStare.

Very interesting post. Yes, I acknowledge that the modern Commonwealth is a very different alliance nowadays to how it used ro be with 36 out of 56 members already being republics. And yes Gabon and Togo
have no historical ties to the British monarchy whatsoever,

And equally, very interesting to hear about your son’s experience,

I very much NOT an expert but from what I have heard from BBC radio on the subject, and likewise speaking very generally and not to you directly BasiliskStare,

I gather that there is a strategic shift happening within the Commonwealth atm prior to 2030 where the member countries are focusing on economic, democratic and environmental resilience prior to seeking more independence and shifting away from past associations with the British monarchy.

For example, since Barbados transitioned to a republic, Jamaica, Antigua, and Belize are actively mapping out paths to remove the British monarch as their head of state.

However at the same time it would be wrong to ignore the increasingly loud call for reparations from the past, lead by Ghana I believe and others.

I read it that the man who supposedly spoke these words had been a longterm security officer for H in which case he would most likely be British and of course we don't "ma'am" people here except the royal ladies.

Fair dos Cuppy. ☺️

One little observation. We also call female officers ma’am here.

Perhaps they got confused with that veteran march thing…. Easy done. 😉

🤣🤣🤣🤣
Leading the veterans march! In flappy shorts and sliders!
She's the gift that keeps on giving! 😂

Thank you for posting this photo.

I had forgotten M's Marvellous Marching.

I expect she was able to tell all the veterans that she was there to modernise the Armed Services and show them the proper way to march.

Those uniforms are so last year.

What is really needed is a playsuit.

MaturingCheeseball · 31/08/2026 17:05

Cringe and super cringe at the marching. It sits alongside wearing a ballgown to the Bob Marley premiere when they were not in the VIP room but seated with ordinary folk sitting slumped in baseball caps - and the floor strewn with popcorn - hilarious!

jeffgoldblum · 31/08/2026 17:09

Yes! , so many comedy moments it’s hard to believe it’s not a sketch show!

Andylion · 31/08/2026 17:10

Mylovelygreendress · 31/08/2026 16:28

Ah but was that not part of the spectacle for the masses ??

I’ve never thought of it this way before, but when you refer to the Commonwealth veil and “spectacle for the masses” comment in one post, it really does show, as you say, the hypocrisy.
So the Commonwealth veil had no value for her personally and was just for the masses.
Got it.

Thedom · 31/08/2026 17:13

DancingFerret · 31/08/2026 15:14

Not forgetting this little gem (I purposely didn't crop "Entertainment" from the top of the page 😉).

😂😂

Omg, to see it all transcribed there shows how crazy her whole plot is, it’s funny and scary at the same time, she appears to live out a fantasy in her head, she was 40 years old when she claimed all that adoration stuff was said to her 😲😲

How anyone can believe she is a rational normal person is beyond me, we also have had the founder era, talking out of her ass, she really has delusions of superiority, she really has a bit of the megalomaniac about her, doesn’t she !

As I've mentioned a few times (sorry!) I do look at Celebitchy sometimes. It has a horrible sort of fascination for me - like looking under a stone, except that I rather like creepy-crawlies.

It's a different planet on there. They are stunned (as we are) and baffled by HAM's return to the UK but many think it might be for Harry's Invictus work. A couple of commentators actually said they knew the veterans would be expecting and hoping that Meghan will go. I wish I could ask them why they think this very odd thing, but my comments are always deleted because I'm clearly not SS.

Being pedantic, you didn't 'literally' said that. You said categorically that it wasn't clear. It was clear to me as an impartial reader.

Just popping my head round the door to have a nosey lol.

Ok. Let me be literally clear.
Her point wasn't clear to me.
She is incorrect in that assumption.
I do hope that this is now completely clear. To all.

BasiliskStare · 31/08/2026 17:19

@Hostamenace689 - Thank you . I for one like proper discussion on these threads.

Yes I agree. Ghana are vocal on reparations. I have no idea why my son is such an expert on Commonwealth matters , but he said Ghana are leading an initiative for reparations ( I wanted to say Comicon , but luckily checked and it is Caricom - they are two very different things 😊) . UK government is holding fast to not paying reparations for historic events. However I think there are ongoing discussions , not just about financial reparations , or official apologies , but also making available records for genealogical research inter alia , but also proper talks about the situation.

Look , @Hostamenace689 , I'm running out of knowledge here so I'm not going to claim knowledge I don't have. But I would say the whole situation with the Commonwealth , historically and present day , is more nuanced than just calling it Empire 2.0. I think we might be in agreement on that. But I for one am running out of facts, So I'll stop until I know some more. 💐

Can you point out the misogyny on here please?
I'll report it to MNHQ. It would break talk guidelines

Is this offer open to anyone?

If so, I think a PP referring to Meg on this thread as Harry's "bob on a job partner" is misogynistic. Either it's deliberately cruelly reducing a woman to a part she played as an actress, or it's insinuating she was a prostitute.

If you can report that please.

No, surely it is just describing a warm body in a role anyone could fill?

What a bizarre reading. Have you never heard the term?

OliveMyLove · 31/08/2026 17:25

There’s a Bob on the Job book. A news show. Scouts did Bob a job.

How strange to think it’s about prostitution!

Meghan’s lying is probably part of the reason she can’t sustain close friendships. The lying is very wearisome and once people spend time with it probably figure it out really fast.

My daughter’s best friend lies all the time, and my Dd 16 has realised and said ‘once you see it you can’t unsee it’. Others in their friendship group have spotted it, but they’re all too nice to say anything, but the ex best friend has moved on to spending time with another group. My DD said it’s very wearisome when you can’t believe anything tbeh say as they lie about little unimportant things as well as the big important stuff

Actually no I haven't heard that term. I'm not fully British though and wasn't brought up here.

But I saw lots of references on this thread and others to Meghan's head bobbing up and down in an acting role. So not a bizarre reading after all.

I just got to the thread though. How about you?

Never assume what other posters are going through, there is always someone who is in a worse position.

And Dandy was doing nothing of the sort. At all. It's unfair to accuse her of that. It was very clear she was explaining her own absence. Interesting that she said she was sorry to hear you had had cancer, but you didn't do it back.
