Would anyone like to make a prediction of what happens next for Harry and Meghan if they return to the UK?

Indeed.

I think they might quite like the parading part (bit of velvet, bit of bling, fancy nosh, glass of port) but I don’t think they would be good at any other aspect of it.

If you read "Spare" they both found official engagements tiring and very demanding. So I think stepping away from that was the right move for them.

twatwrangler · 02/09/2026 14:36

I’m assuming they meant intellectually tiring and demanding?

It can’t have been physically?

dottiedodah · 02/09/2026 14:36

EmpressSisi I agree .I think the timing of their return with such short notice given cannot be incidental surely? It will be interesting to see what happens .I think the children must come first and their education .PH is obv homesick ,and MM has the chance to go to US whenever she needs work.I think people would be happier about their return if only they had been more tactful upon their departure!

I'm not sure. At one point Harry does say that he felt too tired, but that could have been mentally.

I imagine it is fairly exhausting talking to people. And I can see it being very wearing if you can’t keep up with the subject matter or conversation.

You can only play the fool so many times to bumble your way out of it.

He must have really struggled chatting with Kris. 😉

There is no way Harry could return to royal duties it would make a mockery of the institution, after the book and interviews etc. He has absolutely burnt his bridges in that regard.
I think they might occasionally be seen with the family at Christmas or possibly ascot etc. And will do their own charity work and celebrity type events (such as film premiers and guest tv appearances)
Living in the UK will allow Harry to leave Meghan (if rumours about there marriage are true) and I think this will be on the cards in the near future. Once the kids are settled in school over here with home and nanny etc. a separation will be simpler and less disruptive, because despite all his faults I do believe Harry will always do what's best for his children and could never have divorced Meghan in the USA and returned to the UK without the kids.

This is the mess Harry has created for himself. He wants to reclaim his royal "specialness" and that of his children, but he's attacked the current king and the next king in the most public and nasty way, which makes it very difficult for him to be brought back into the fold even of the private family. He will certainly never be part of the "working royal" family. So, I'm not sure that we will ever see Harry, Meghan and the kids on the Christmas walk, at least not for many, many years and only if some kind of modus vivendi that William will also have to agree to will be found. Going on something like the Christmas walk will also be a big admission that all the nasty things Harry and Meghan said about Harry's family were fake. I suspect holidays such as Christmas and Easter are when Harry and Meghan conveniently take the kids back to California to visit Granny Doria.

In any case, Harry is so crotchety and querulous, particularly about his kids, and is obsessed with hiding their faces, while at the same time making a big deal out of the fact he has kids and they are (with some delay) a prince and princess. He apparently even tried to get HRH documented on their passports as part of their names/titles, because he was hoping that this would give them the chance to be working royals one day. I don't think he has a clear strategy, aside from wanting them to grow up British and with some kind of association with royalness.

A soppy part of me thinks it would be lovely if Archie could have a playmate in his cousin Louis, who is around the same age as him. It's not Archie's fault his parents made such a mess of things. All this in private, of course.

Many non working royal family members and their children (Beatrice, Eugenie, Zara etc) are all invited to participate in the Sandringham Christmas walk - same with Kates Christmas concert. Wouldn’t be a good look for The King and future Queen to exclude their closest blood child relatives whilst extending any open invitation to less connected ILs / cousins.

twatwrangler · 02/09/2026 14:49

I can’t help but think that H (and possibly M) were thinking more about themselves when they hauled the children away from their nanny, their Granny Doria, their friends and the only home they’ve over known.

For no real reason whatsoever.

I don’t think they considered the children at all.

Agreed. It's been said tho' that Harry and Meghan will go to California for Christmas, so that should avoid that awkward situation.

I could be wrong, but Beatrice and Eugenie are now outside the fold.

I have a feeling they could be invited, stay well clear and wait for people to wail in their defence.

Then be resolutely mute to watch the fuss that ensues.

Victims first and forever.

I think this is it. He wants to live his life out quietly and in dignity. Year, maybe two. Harry will return to being full time royal. It is all he can do, really. Also Kate and William need help! There are hardly any royals left! I listened to spare on holiday. All tev squabbling just seems like stupid petty tit for tat. It's time they all made up. Meg can do her own thing. Keep up her brands etc. I think it's time to forgive Harry. But he needs to stop moaning, suing the daily mail, realise how privileged he is and just accept that being a royal does come with some compromises... more than compensated for by extreme wealth and comfort.

Harry will return to being full time royal. It is all he can do, really. Also Kate and William need help!

Help with what? Royals have individual patronages and 'duties'. How can Harry 'help'? Besides, the trust just isn't there.

All tev squabbling just seems like stupid petty tit for tat.

What 'squabbling'? None of the working royals have uttered the words 'Meghan' or 'Harry' in public for years. Only one 'side' is spoiling for a fight. You can't have 'tit for tat' without any 'tat'.

They've been good friends for many years. Meghan knew Eugenie before she knew Harry, and she was certainly familiar with Royal Lodge. The Sussexes and the Yorks always seemed to be good friends.
Sarah Ferguson was front and centre at H&M's wedding, whereas she wasn't invited to W&C's wedding at all.
So there's a significant difference there.

I had absolutely no memory of Fergie being at the wedding so just looked it up out of nosiness interest and saw that she also went on telly post wedding to talk all about it. Birds of a feather really do flock together in this case!

I think everyone understands that relations aren't great between the royals and Harry and Meghan. No one (aside from those with an agenda) will be critical of the King if he doesn't invite those two and the kids for the public walk or if Catherine doesn't invite them to her Christmas concert. In any case, will Harry want to do the walk or appear at Catherine's event? He seems incredibly resentful of Charles, Camilla, William, even Catherine, and he's paranoid about his kids' faces been seen in public. Appearing with them at Christmas time will be an admission that all his trash talk about them was a lie. Besides, the Christmas holidays are a great opportunity to take the kids back to California to see Granny Doria and the chickens.

Really, no one - aside from "royal journalists" - will give a toss if Harry and Meghan aren't seen at any royal events at Christmas time.

Viviennemary · 02/09/2026 15:41

If they are at any of thoss events they will take over and the focus will be on them. So it's better for everyone if they're not there.

twatwrangler · 02/09/2026 15:52

And who has the chickens by the way?!!!

I don’t care for folk who have animals for show and can leave them willynilly.

You could equally argue that inviting H, M and hamlets would actually wind up a lot of royal supporters.

I just cannot see them being in the same space as W and C after what they ssid and did. It's just not do-able. And apart from anything else, the press would have a field day. All the attention which should (at the Carol Concert) be on the children and other invited participants, would be on H & M,and whether there was any interaction between them and the other RF members.

It would be a disaster, but I don't think anyone wants it, least of all H and M - imagine Meghan coping with going to something that's become very much Catherine's personal event!

It's been said a few times by other pps but I sometimes wonder if the same posters who (on AIBU, say) are the most brutal in telling OPs to go non-contact with their relations are the same ones who claim that the RF are being petty and mean not to want anything to do with the HAMs!
