Would anyone like to make a prediction of what happens next for Harry and Meghan if they return to the UK?

Going by Harry's early morning departure from Balmoral the very day after the Queen's death, it's possible that anything Anne had to say was said then - especially when, Charles and William having already decamped elsewhere on the estate, she was just about the most senior one left to host him

Oh I'd forgotten how appallingly H behaved on the day the Queen died. All told in his own words, so no-one can say it's anyone briefing against him. I imagine Anne might have had a good deal to say, if she could be bothered to spare him a moment of her attention when she had so many other things to think of.

Can someone explain to me in a few sentences why they are coming here?

Is it because Harry wants the children to be educated in the UK.Apparently ,he will remain here and Meghan is going to flit backwards and forwards to the USA.

Yes I think it's a lot to do with promoting the children as royals. If they stay in the US then their royalty will become a bit meaningless. They will be pushing their way back in. Harry anyway. They want the carriage rides, the balcony appearance, the cavalcade of cars. The waving crowds. Privacy lol. No.

It sounds like their child exploitation & monetarisation era

Auntie Anne got her revenge with her mahoosive feathered hat during the coronation that obliterated every view of Harry for the cameras.

Maybe because the world is an unsafe place with the threat of ww3 growing so they are safer back here or King Charles is more unwell than what is being shared.

I think people minimize the relationship between the Queen and her only daughter.

When Kate had Charlotte the Queen indicated to her that it was wonderful to have a daughter. Then there were several
moments over the years where the Queen and Anne interacted in am such a sweet way.

Then Anne’s tribute to her mother on the car journey back to London.

So they thought they’d come and live near some military bases and cruise missile silos? And the private home of the Head of State? These would all be prime targets for hostile powers. They’d be better off in Oregon, Canada or Australia.

I think it’s all a little bit more Dynasty than that: misery, rehab, money, divorce, reputational face-saving.

If Charles is not long for this world, Harry’s absolutely stuffed, along with his ghastly ‘team’.

When we say 'working' we are talking about a different definition of the word from that of most people who actually work, right?

Yes we are. There is a definition of "Working Royal Family" . Whether people think what they see of the WRF or indeed think about what they do which isn't visible or think about there is no age of retirement, is a different matter and one of opinion. I'm not saying there aren't people who work very hard for long hours for a fraction of the money and benefits the WRF get , just making the point there is a definition of WRF.

By the by I think there can be nothing credibly construed re KC's health from HAM's return. On the one hand you can say they're coming back because he hasn't got long left , on the other hand you could credibly say he is doing very well and HAM have longer to get their feet under the table. Now - I'm not saying either of those is true and that HAM don't have other reasons for relocating - I'm just saying it could be spun both ways , and without any proper basis I'm disinclined to believe any speculation on KC's health just because H&M have decided to live in the UK.

edit spelling.

I am not going to apologise to @rocklivia for objecting to a post that was deleted by MNHQ.

It was not the term ‘fishwife’ on its own, it was the whole context including other adjectives used and aggression and who it was about.

If you still don’t understand why it was inappropriate, ask MNHQ.

Whst is the point of this endless bickering over posts that can't even be read now. The term fishwife is a bit sexist. Been around years and means a gossipy old woman. So nothing whatsoever to do with racism.

twatwrangler · 31/08/2026 14:47

It is still very much in use in the coastal wilds and is more often than not aimed at the men these days!

Many decades ago though it was directed more (solely?) at women.

It was my granny’s favourite way of describing her neighbour. It wasn’t a term she used much to be fair so when she used it we all knew who she meant!

I think I read somewhere that she questioned keeping her headgear on during the coronation service and was told she had to keep it on as it's part of a uniform. Someone with a sense of humour arranged the Abbey seating though, wasn't it a huge candle H and M were behind in another church service?

Yes, Meghan got obscured by the pillar candle at the late Queens funeral and then H got feathered during the coronation. Still at least if was across the board and they can't one of them got singled out!

I think it’s obvious the only reason they’re back is to do with visa issues for Harry. There is no way Megan wants to live in the UK (and Harry doesn’t really want to be here either), but she’s coming for now so as not to break up the family. I think you’ll see her taking the kids back to the USA for extended breaks/summers, especially if they’re in private school with long holidays, and unfortunately I think we’ll eventually see her and Harry part ways.

What visa issues would a wealthy, world-known person related to the head of state of an allied nation and with an American spouse and children have?

I don't buy the visa theory either. Seems very far fetched.

BunnyBunbunbun · 31/08/2026 17:27

Life in the UK for Harry and Meghan will be similar to life in the US for them, i.e. a flop in terms of "making it". They will be more annoying, however, because Harry will keep trying to make himself and his kids working royals (i.e. representatives of the King) - but that won't happen.

Some people/institutions/charities will be a little confused as to how to approach him because he is still the King's son. Some might be willing to work with him (less so her) because he's "important", but he won't be of much benefit to them.

He will milk Invictus and the othe veterans charities he's involved with, because that's all he's got. I don't think either he or Meghan are going to get many new roles, however, and any organisation that associates with him will appear a little tawdry, because he's a lower-tier royal with no official royal recognition.

On a private family level, it's up to Charles, William, etc. what type of private relationship they want with him, but Harry, Meghan and the kids will never be part of "official" royal family work.

It's easier for Charles to act the role of granddad every now and then than it is for William to perform the role of uncle, but, while William can mostly ignore Harry, it will be less easy for him to ignore his nephew and niece, especially as he becomes King, and as George eventually becomes King. That's for them to work out privately, though.

I don't buy it either. They are coming here to promote themselves and their children and big up their royal status.
