Would anyone like to make a prediction of what happens next for Harry and Meghan if they return to the UK?

I wonder what the relationship between Harry, Meghan and Sarah Ferguson is? I wonder if there is allegiance there?

Edited

They've been good friends for many years. Meghan knew Eugenie before she knew Harry, and she was certainly familiar with Royal Lodge. The Sussexes and the Yorks always seemed to be good friends.
Sarah Ferguson was front and centre at H&M's wedding, whereas she wasn't invited to W&C's wedding at all.
So there's a significant difference there.

Maybe more Epstein revelations?

CoffeeCantata · 02/09/2026 09:28

Sandringham is a possibility but the guest list will likely be only them and the family formerly known as York.

I know lots of pps think Christmas at Sandringham is the most likely entry point for the Sussexes, but I disagree. I think the whole experience sounds awful and out of step with modern ideas about the festive season. I get the impression some of the RF feel the same! Presents on Christmas EVe, not Christmas morning, dinner on Christmas EVe, not Christmas Day, the church visit and walk etc. I think presents go on display too, for the family to walk around.

If you're trying to edge your way back in I would have thought that Sandringham Christmas would be the last thing you'd choose to join in with! I'm sure William, for example, would enjoy Christmas at the Middleton's much more, with his family and I bet it's one of the things which goes when he takes the throne.

I doubt H&M have any real interest in “behind the scenes” Christmas or other family gatherings eg Balmoral. They are after the “money shot” - A&L scampering up the path after Church at Sandringham - probably instructed to grab onto grandpas hand. They would probably head straight to LHR to jet off to Cali.

I think that's extremely likely. And Sandringham hasn't always been the venue for Royal Christmas's. . . . When there was a massive RF and loads of children, they all used to gather at Windsor Castle, The Queens Family, the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret, the Gloucesters and all the Kents with their families. Adding it up quickly I think there would have been 17 children but quite an age range between Prince Charles as the eldest and, I think, Lady Gabriella Windsor as the youngest. There was one year when Prince Michael's wife had just joined the family and complained about the size of her bedroom. . . . so PH isn't the first to be disgruntled about the size of his bedroom!!!

I’ve said this in another thread, but I can’t help feeling the papers are hinting that all is not quite as it seems with them. They’re clearly suggesting there’s a reason they’re back, beyond the explanations being given about the kids’ education, acting jobs etc. I’m just not sure what they’d be willing to hint at without being able to outright say it. Whatever it is, something seems to be going on. I’m really curious what it could be 🤔

I'm so old I remember when the media reported the news and didn't speculate on what they thought was news.

Sorry for digression, but I'm old enough to remember the entire history of Princess Michael in the RF. I looked her up on Wiki the other day, just to check something, and OMG! That woman is a piece of work indeed.

Apparently, the Queen, when told of her aristocratic pedigree (which she is very proud of) said 'She sounds rather too grand for us!'

Granted, the woman can't help that her father was a leading Nazi and in the SS (no-one got into the SS by accident...it wasn't like being drated into the Wehrmacht - he must have been a keenie) but my God, she sounds a nightmare.

Apparently the late Queen called her "Our Val" short for Valkyrie! I think Marie Christine was very proud of her aristocratic heritage!

Yes, I think she's mellowed with age but my DM says she was "the Meghan of her day" and attracted a similar amount of press coverage

I don't know how true that is ~ her situation was obviously quite different ~ but she certainly provided a lot of stories for the press in the early years of her marriage

CoffeeCantata · 02/09/2026 10:41

@mybeautifulemeraldparure and @AustenitesUnite

I just thought she was Princess Pushy, but oh boy!

There's a catalogue of controversies

She read something about baboons passing on genes which respect social hierarchy (or something) and claimed this was proof that noble blood is a thing, and that 'people who aren't like us' are different, and should know their place.

Of course, she notoriously wore the Blackamoor brooch to meet Meghan - and I'm not someone who looks to take offence everywhere, but really...what a thing to do when you could wear all kinds of jewels.

She has 2 black sheep which she has named Venus and Serena. Again - you might say, what's wrong with that, but taken in context with her other antics, it's not great.
She's implied anti-semitic views too, which, considering her DIL is Sophie Winkleman (half-sis of Claudia), that's rather strange.

Definitely one for KC to shove off the balcony (er, I mean, exclude from the balcony) and put out to grass.

Amazing that she raised the lovely Gabriella. Although to be fair Gabriella spend a considerable amount of time at boarding school, studying in the US and living and working in South America so maybe she has good boundaries.

Yes, they have nannies, then go to boarding school. The parental imput in some of these families does get limited.

My DM can remember an episode when PMOK was alleged to be having an affair with an American businessman. She was admitted to a private hospital in London (the one all the Royals use) as she was suffering from nervous exhaustion or something similar. DM can remember all the press camping outside the hospital for quite a few days

Apart from the blackamoor brooch scandal I haven't heard anything about her for ages. I remember seeing her in the background at the Duchess of Kent's funeral and being shocked at how old and frail she looked

Perhaps H&M need to take heed of this ~ they may be able to get plenty of press coverage whilst they are still relatively young but in 30 - 40 years time the interest will have moved elsewhere . . . .

mybeautifulemeraldparure · 02/09/2026 10:55

Unfortunately, Princess Michael of Kent is confined to bed after suffering from a debilitating stroke. She's 81.

Charles may be very sick...the doctors could have a timeline....and there's a media agreement to keep quiet on this for now, or put silly filler stories out there.

I think this is it. He wants to live his life out quietly and in dignity. Year, maybe two. Harry will return to being full time royal. It is all he can do, really. Also Kate and William need help! There are hardly any royals left! I listened to spare on holiday. All tev squabbling just seems like stupid petty tit for tat. It's time they all made up. Meg can do her own thing. Keep up her brands etc. I think it's time to forgive Harry. But he needs to stop moaning, suing the daily mail, realise how privileged he is and just accept that being a royal does come with some compromises... more than compensated for by extreme wealth and comfort.

MN have said that they are happy for people to discuss such moderations on here. We know that MN do not have active moderation and respond to reports. Sadly one thing I have learnt from MN is that some posters on certain more controversial boards love to report to try to stifle debate ( I assume). #fishwifegate did inspire me to search in my limited capacity and indeed it is a phrase that has been used before to refer to Harry. There are always going to be obscure phrases or words that seem to prompt some to report eg I recall reading about how " beyond the pale" is offensive to some people. That was a new one to me. It is at times difficult to interpret eg pegging has been used to refer to Prince William on several occasions and has been allowed to stand. I come from a part of Scotland where fishwife is a very common term and harks back to these hardworking and far travelled people who were the source of all knowledge in their communities. They were to use another word " blethers". I will adopt this in future ☺️

Everything else aside, I think that is a good policy and rare amongst forums.

I totally agree with your first paragraph. I think they've realised that their children's future would be better if they were very much seen as 'royals' and I also think like you do that they might want their children to be working royals one day to assure their future. They know that Charles can't refuse if they want to walk to church on Christmas Day etc, thereby getting themselves recognised as 'royal'.

I think Harry also wants them to grow up with cousins like he did, and they don't have any family apart from Doria in America that they speak to, so Harry is going to fall back on his own family (some of whom he has treated very badly).

This is the mess Harry has created for himself. He wants to reclaim his royal "specialness" and that of his children, but he's attacked the current king and the next king in the most public and nasty way, which makes it very difficult for him to be brought back into the fold even of the private family. He will certainly never be part of the "working royal" family. So, I'm not sure that we will ever see Harry, Meghan and the kids on the Christmas walk, at least not for many, many years and only if some kind of modus vivendi that William will also have to agree to will be found. Going on something like the Christmas walk will also be a big admission that all the nasty things Harry and Meghan said about Harry's family were fake. I suspect holidays such as Christmas and Easter are when Harry and Meghan conveniently take the kids back to California to visit Granny Doria.

In any case, Harry is so crotchety and querulous, particularly about his kids, and is obsessed with hiding their faces, while at the same time making a big deal out of the fact he has kids and they are (with some delay) a prince and princess. He apparently even tried to get HRH documented on their passports as part of their names/titles, because he was hoping that this would give them the chance to be working royals one day. I don't think he has a clear strategy, aside from wanting them to grow up British and with some kind of association with royalness.

A soppy part of me thinks it would be lovely if Archie could have a playmate in his cousin Louis, who is around the same age as him. It's not Archie's fault his parents made such a mess of things. All this in private, of course.

There's absolutely no way Harry and/or Meghan can represent the British head of state, which is what being a working royal effectively means. I can't see Harry going on official foreign visits, representing both the King and the British state, passing on his father's greetings as head of state to foreign leaders, discussing trade relations, etc. Aside from the fact he doesn't have the aptitude for such discussions, no one would take him seriously after all that's happened.

What exactly do William and Catherine need help with?

They don't.
Harry and Meghan aren't really the sort of people to represent the Head of State and the UK.

BunnyBunbunbun · 02/09/2026 14:08

Princess Michael of Kent was never a working royal, nor was her husband Prince Michael. Thankfully the days of zillions of randos on the balcony of Buckingham Palace are over.

twatwrangler · 02/09/2026 14:10

It would be worrisome to have H or M as working royals.

There has to be a level of trust, dignity, class and discretion.

It is a fat no on all counts.

No, plus I think it's not their thing. Not their strength, for sure.

twatwrangler · 02/09/2026 14:26

Indeed.

I think they might quite like the parading part (bit of velvet, bit of bling, fancy nosh, glass of port) but I don’t think they would be good at any other aspect of it.
