Are the bets on or off for an invite to Balmoral?
Will Meghan bake a humble pie for Catherine?
Let’s discuss……!

Charles must be quaking in his boots. If it is very unfavourable to him as it surely will be, it won't play well with the Palace, and what will William think?

I really don’t think so.

Whatever Earl Spencer has to say is coming from a highly biased and completely non credible source.

Charles has already faced the worst anybody could possibly say about him in relation to Diana.

William, unlike his brother, is an intelligent mature man who can not only employ critical thinking but was old enough to see his mother’s faults up close at the time.

She dragged him into all her emotional turmoil, exposed him to her various lovers and used him as a crutch rather than protecting him.

He was also very unhappy at her involvement with the Al Fayeds.

Of course he loves his mother and admires her good qualities but he isn’t stupid enough to see her as a one dimensional saint.

AutumnCrowsMusings · 19/08/2026 12:33

I’m intrigued, if it is a Spencer/Harry collab of some kind, how they’re going to use it to slag off William and Catherine? That seems to be H’s raison d’être after all. Could be vaguely entertaining, I suppose, seeing how it’s shoehorned in.

And I wonder what his history podcast mate Rev Richard Coles thinks of it all?

Maybe it’s actually going to be a solo book by Spencer that’s simply a recollection of his interesting sister, without any attempts at hatchet jobs on the King, Queen and PPoW? I presume Spencer knows Diana wouldn’t want that, and so does Rev Coles.

AutumnCrowsMusings · 19/08/2026 12:43

Sorry if that doesn't make the slightest bit of sense ^^. I'm being talked at by men with jump leads about alternators.

Lifestooshort71 · 19/08/2026 13:06

'talked at by men'
how very dare they!! 🙀

bluegreygreen · 19/08/2026 13:16

I agree there is much less interest in Diana than there was, simply due to the passage of time, as so much of the population never knew her.

I do think there is a potential new readership from the last ten years - viewers of The Crown, although possibly they would be more likely to watch a documentary than buy a book about Diana.

IcedPurple · 19/08/2026 13:19

The more I think about it, the more I reckon it's very likely the Sussexes have some kind of 'collaboration' with Earl Spencer's upcoming book. Perhaps the purported 'Diana documentary' is directly based on the book?

It all does make sense. Meghan, who had shown zero interest in accompanying Harry on any of his previous visits, including to the Coronation, decides to come over this summer? With the kids? There must have been something in it for her, and that something was surely a trip to Althorp. A 'collaboration' also makes sense for Charles Spencer, as an NF 'documentary' would publicise his book to an audience who wouldn't otherwise have heard of it.

So I'd be pretty surprised if there isn't some form of 'deal' here.

DancingFerret · 19/08/2026 13:24

I know BP confirmed they came, but in this day and age of cameras everywhere I can't help being sceptical the whole family came. All we have seen are carefully curated photos of people's backs - again.

So BP were lying in their official press release? Why on earth would they do that?

BasiliskStare · 19/08/2026 13:42

Here you go @AutumnCrowsMusings

BTW I think the whole family came - I just can't see what's in it for BP to lie about this - so easily disproven. & H&M are not backwards in clapping back.

I know H&M have gone on record as saying they're not doing a 30th anniversary Diana documentary, but past form means I'll believe it when I don't see it 😊

Diana was only interesting because of what happened to her and who she married. Up until then she was just another unremarkable Sloan Ranger sharking round South Ken until she got to marry a banker or minor Duke. Spencer has to write about her marriage as there was not much else.

If this is the case, CS is a very stupid man. Everything HAM touches turns to shit

I am hoping for something more emotionally intelligent and insightful.

Maybe I am being too optimistic but a reflection on the intergenerational trauma suffered and passed on by parents emotionally stunted by their own neglected / abusive childhoods would be interesting. The addictions, abandonments and sexual incontinence as both a cause and a consequence of dysfunctional behaviour and inflicting trauma on the next generation would be powerful. It would require a Mea Culpa.

Edited

I'm not sure just how emotionally intelligent and insightful Charles Spencer is - i remember about 18 months ago he posted what he described as a sweet photo of his parents - yet all I could see was an abusive man and a terrified woman.

Obviously genetic so. H appears to be following suit

That's all true, but I am sure he doesn't want it all dredged up again, especially now he is the Monarch.

People will write books about Charles for the rest of his life and beyond. He knows he can't control the narrative and I doubt he is worried.

Having said that, sad though it is there is nothing out of the ordinary about either Diana or Charles (both of them) upbringing. Childhood at boarding school, abusive boarding schools, warring parents, being brought up by nannies adultery, that was unfortunately all too common in aristocratic circles.

He has been through worse. Doubt he cares. I'm surprised CS doesn't want to keep his nephew, the future king, happy

They're some of my favourite sketches Bas, in fact my OH & I were rewatching a few weeks ago & they obviously still hold up if @AutumnCrowsMusings mechanics are anything to go by 🙄😂

I greatly suspect that there will be another opportunity here for the hideous pair to exploit it for money or publicity.
They certainly won’t miss out the opportunity for whinging and moaning, will they? And I greatly suspect that they’ll be getting desperate for cash before much longer especially with the ALN expenses looming.

I think the level of dysfunction for that family was especially deep.

Diana’s mother was ejected from her family, home and childrens lives. She was described as a ‘bolter’- that experience of ‘abandonment’ by a mother was unusual and would have been emotionally devastating and stunting - which would explain (but never excuse) the problematic behaviours we have seen in C&D at least.

If CS did extensive and impactful therapy then he would be able to hold two or three things at once, although not on an equal footing - so an abusive father and abused mother, victims of their own upbringing passing on intergenerational trauma by their emotional immaturity and poor coping methods - and also the Mum and Dad he had hoped they would be and maybe for brief moments in his childhood they were. Full therapeutic healing is about arriving at some level of compassion and understanding not either extremes of blame and shame or abuse denial. I really would be interested in CS if he was able to unravel and reflect on what happened to him, his sister, his parents and how this caused issues for the up bringing of his and Diana’s children. PW seemingly was ‘parentified’ by Diana - this has serious implications for his own emotional development etc as it has for PH. PW seems to have had emotional repair through his anchoring and nurturing relationship with the Middleton’s from his teenage years.

PH meanwhile is flaying around with someone equally disturbed from a challenging childhood and that unstable personality has not provided him the foundation to emotionally grow as we can see in his continued reactive and chaotic approach to life.

Claregalway · 19/08/2026 17:36

Perhaps H&M were pitching a NF ‘first look’ opportunity to CS a on his book …. but he would be an absolute fruitloop to work with this two fools who have a track record of everything they touch turns to shit. He has the exposure and contacts himself to develop the book to film if he ever wanted to.
