Have just seen a thread on TwiX where a commentator was watching.

Apparently she grew up with lots of fresh produce and ate 'farm to table fresh' - so not the 'latch key kid' story or the 'salad bar after Dad's work' story for Masterchef then.

Really? , so yet again another new narrative!
“will the real Meghan markle please stand up!”

Just catching up.

Thanks for the thread @BigWillyLittleTodger.

Thanks for the Masterchef summary @StartupRepair - at least it's a one-off, unlike @Atlusvue's marathon!
I used to watch clips of Masterchef Australia when I could find them, as it always came across as friendlier than the UK version.

The Facetime thing was obviously planned, as otherwise you wouldn't have a mobile on set. As @MrsLeonFarrell says, it just emphasises that her importance (such as it is) comes from Harry.

Oh it's like the texts from Beyoncé and William and Elvis while they are filming .

JSMill · 26/07/2026 12:52

I think having H FaceTime her is interesting because a lot of people on these threads have speculated if she will dump him. Including H when she really didn’t have to suggests she knows he’s the real draw so she may continue to cling on.

PullTheBricksDown · 26/07/2026 12:53

bluegreygreen · 26/07/2026 12:50

My guess would be (c) @PullTheBricksDown - would she admit that the real pull for the audience was Harry, not her?

Fair point, double bubble for the producers

Judging from her previous behaviour, I very much doubt she will leave him until she has her next conquest firmly in the bag !

Thanks @StartupRepair , sounds totally nauseating.

If you look at the Masterchef AU threads on Reddit, prior to any announcement about MM appearing, it has been declining in popularity for a long time, a dying series, so many avid viewers saying they have lost interest and don’t watch it anymore. Viewership is in the toilet,, I guess Meghan will have brought a few more views for this episode, but it’s interesting how she is only of value to declining brands.

That's very true. Either failing brands, or small brands for whom any sort of publicity is a positive. Meghan does get people talking, but not necessarily in a positive way! She really has nothing to offer an established brand, so they steer well clear.

RecoIIectionsMayVary · 26/07/2026 13:05

Thanks for the new thread.

StartupRepair · 26/07/2026 13:05

On reflection I am most surprised by how giddy and star struck the contestants were. They are all young. Under 35 and from different ethnic backgrounds. Exactly the Australian demographic I would have expected to have little interest in royal titles. Suspect they followed the lead of the very revved up judges and producers.

I thought she said she had a lot of TV dinners as a kid because her dad worked long hours? Her memories seem to change according to wherever she is!!

StartupRepair · 26/07/2026 13:14

She also said on the show her mum is a brilliant cook. Then she said she learned to cook from tv cooking shows.

I used to watch Aus MasterChef and the the contestants are always a bit star struck and giddy by the guest judges so I assume they are told to be or they are selected as contestants because they have that personality type.

Do I think there will be a divorce ? No. I believe they’ll stick it out rather than have people be able to say ‘we knew this would happen’.

They will live the same miserable pretend life as the Duke of Windsor and Wallis.

Tbh that doesn’t surprise me. If you watch any show in which there are guest judges the contestants invariably get quite silly over them. I put it down to the nerves.

I really should refresh the page more often, I see @treylimehad the same thought!

I thought she said she had a lot of TV dinners as a kid because her dad worked long hours? Her memories seem to change according to wherever she is!!

There’s a name for it “mythomaniac” and “pseudologica fantastical”:

Mythomaniac: A person with a mental habit of telling compulsive lies and believing their own made-up tales.

Pseudologia Fantastica: The old medical name for a long-term habit of mixing wild fantasy with reality.

PinkHairbrushClub · 26/07/2026 13:40

Thanks for the thread @BigWillyLittleTodger

For this thread I’m going to use my imaginary block button and ignore the ploppers

Yes! Very changeable depending on who she’s interacting with or who she’s trying to present herself as!! , I’m beginning to wonder if she even notices the lies anymore! , they are so constant and compulsive 🤷‍♀️

Thank you!! , that was what I was thinking but couldn’t remember the term! 👍

I've never watched it so wouldn't have known that, @Thedom, but it strikes me that Masterchhef and Meghan now have something in common - as in they both have to take whatever they can get, wherever they can get it Confused

Starryfifty · 26/07/2026 13:53

just catching up ladies. Did they actually show him FaceTiming her ?

Am looking forward to some cringe masterchef edits on youtube.

This is a very small anecdote which has no real bearing on M , however - I have a friend who was going to treat herself to something for reasons , expensive but she could afford it. She liked the Cartier love bangle which M often wears . She went in 3 times to try it on and the assistant ( apparently they call them ambassadors or some such ) said , can't you decide ? Said friend said I love it but Meghan Markle's got one so I'm a bit put off. Apparently the Cartier person was a bit surprised and said he'd seen it on her and it looked very nice. Anyway she bought it ( I think it was the slightly less expensive narrow version ) but it was despite MM having one not because she had one & friend had coveted it for ages.

Anyway this is one anecdote which doesn't translate into any widespread data on "the Meghan effect" but when friend told me it did make me smile.

You've just reminded me that when dd2 was about 10/11yo she was involved in a radio charity fund raiser. They were told to expect about £3-6k towards her charity and a suprise celebrity would present it.

So there they were all excitedly waiting, and in walks the celebrity carrying a cheque for around ten times what they were expecting.
"Oh yes, miniMargaret," says the radio presenter, "that is really Celebrity X. You can't believe it can you?"
Well dd2 played up wonderfully and was very giggling and "can I have your photo" "this is so exciting". You'd have thought she was totally overwhelmed and excited at seeing them.

Thankfully.
Because on the way back she said whereas she had heard of them, she certainly wouldn't have recognised them (they were quite big, can't remember who, but dd2 didn't know any celebrity unless they were performing in musical theatre at the West End) but her look of astonishment was the size of the cheque.
She said she didn't think that would have been the right thing to say live on radio. 🤣

I won’t be watching masterchef but very surprised by the descriptions of the contestants and presenters on here - don’t sound like any Australians I’ve ever met - home or away.
