It's not about education/academic intelligence. Diana herself said she wasn't academic but she was intelligent (albeit some very poor decisions) but she did a huge amount of good and I believe she would have continued

I agree with @notimagain What I know about flying any sort of aircraft you could write on the back of a postage stamp , but I can't see that H wouldn't have properly passed his flying training for the military . Even if you are "just" a co-pilot I assume you need to be able to fly the thing if circumstances dictate. Never mind about H , are the army going to let someone else go up with someone who isn't properly qualified?
Whether he's kept up flying since then , different matter.

TBF to H and for context quite a few people train as pilots but don't spend that long in the job (for all sorts of reasons)...many leave and never look back...

Fundamentally what H did was not that unusual, but accepting a Legend of Aviation's award was seriously taking the mickey.

I don’t know why some see it as ok to comment and joke about baldness in men. It’s a part of the aging process and can be hard for some men to deal with. I know a couple of women who experienced thinning hair and they found it very distressing - I doubt joking about that would be tolerated.

Maybe you could tell Harold that?

KnickerlessParsons · Today 13:28

This. If h had any intelligence/depth, he'd realise that his brother's life is no walk in the park. PW will be a very young King. The prospect must give him sleepless nights. He's probably concerned for his 3 kids. His eldest has huge responsibility. Will his other son and daughter struggle, etc. also, will his wife's cancer come back ?

At times, I would imagine William is envious of Harry's position

PW won’t be a young king! He’s already 44 and Charles could live another several years at least - he’s “only” 77.

Aprilfountain · Today 13:38

Tiddlywinks63 · Today 12:28

It makes him sound utterly gormless, like he’s emotionally and intellectually retarded ……🤔

Exactly, I've thought that for years now, and I believe it's very likely to be true. Harry has always been 'special', so to speak...

If Harry had shown any interest in farming/organic farming/country life he would definitely have been gifted a country estate like Highgrove/Gatcombe when he married. They could have lived quietly in the country and gently opted out of WRF except for big events like Remembrance weekend and TOC etc. He could have been a voice for farmers similar to Clarkson. But they weren't interested and didn't want that - I think they rented somewhere in the Cotswolds near the Soho house place but it didn't last long, they didn't like it. Of course it goes without saying that's not what Meghan would have wanted. I think if Harry had been developing those interests pre-Meghan he would have ended up with a different wife and his life would have followed a very different (and altogether more peaceful) course.

It's incredible really, given the wide interests of his family, the opportunities open to him, how he has ended up ignorant of and disinterested in practically everything you could think of.

People talk about Africa, and how he once talked about living in Africa, but he just wanted the old colonial style of Africa life. Ben Fogle Lives in the Wild Season 17 episode 7 featured a British couple who have set up a safari park in Zambia. Their resilience in the face of many difficulties and dangers is incredible - definitely not the life for me! And it wouldn't be the life for Harry either - he wants a Happy Valley style of life, plenty of servants, social life, big game, occasional white saviour involvement in some low effort (for him) scheme or another.

I just have no idea how they are going to occupy themselves for the next 30-40 years. They can't live a life of cosplay royals, being a constant thorn in the side and nuisance to William, a drain on the RF finances due to their big spending and inability to fund it, living on the internet looking for perceived slights and insults to clap back at. And apart from all the nastiness and bitterness, the harm they have done to the family, to let them back in - I just think aside of not trusting them, they must just be Sooo boring, totally tedious to be around. They are never going to be back in the heart of the family for that reason as much as for everything else.

I believe HAM were offered an estate at the time of Megxit (Herefordshire?) but they turned it down. Although Meghan likes to play faux Lady of the Manor in WLM - "picking" her shop-bought, washed fruits and vegetables. I don't think she wanted a life in "real" farming ... more "influencer farming".

The problem is that HAM "play" at jobs and get found out (TV producer/ podcaster/ humanitarian). I remember a documentary series back in 2019 - Prince Charles; inside the Duchy of Cornwall - KC's depth of knowledge was incredible crop yields, breeds of pigs/ cattle/ sheep, traditional hedge and wall construction - he knew it all! William appeared in one episode, learning about the job. But I can't imagine HAM ever learning these things.

I agree with you that Harry seems to have a pretty "colonial saviour" view of life in Africa and his African charities. He didn't visit Sentebale in Lesotho after he met Meghan - yet was happy to travel around the world for "charity" polo marches. As Sophie C pointed out - his image was old fashioned for the 21st century.

PW will be a very young King.

He is likely to be in his late forties or fifties.

His grandmother was 25.

Edit to add that I agree that Harry's original position of privilege without significant responsibility is preferable.

https://x.com/i/status/2079859771541271001 promo for Meghan on MasterChef.

The sound doesn't work for me, but it looks like she's playing a parody of herself. Like that Australian comedian who also played the schoolgirl - Jaméeee (?).
Her acting/presenting is terrible. If that's who she actually is then... I have no words.

Playing at jobs is spot on. They never see anything through. No commitment. No natural curiosity. Always scheming / grifting. Bitter hatred for anyone they perceive as more intelligent/wealthier/ more attractive/ more successful than them.

Maybe this new "lad Harry" is his way of replacing Global Statesman which would be best laid to rest

I agree the end of "Global Statesman" Harry is well overdue, @Starryfifty, but isn't he a little old now to be playing a "lad"?

I'm not suggesting it's time for the pipe and slippers and appreciate "lad" may be all he's mentally fit for, but at 41 it's surely getting a bit stale

notimagain · Today 14:11

@TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis

Without wanting to belittle pilots in any form, being a pilot doesn't require you to have good emotional intelligence and it doesn't require anything above a "high average" of 110 IQ.
It requires above average degree of motor skills and processing skills, and above all the necessary training and sustained experience

Wouldn't really argue with some of that but would point out with regard to "necessary training and sustained experience:" that the student (certainly in the military world) is expected to progress through the course with the minimum amount of training.

There's little/zero scope for re-rides of lessons if a student isn't quickly picking something up - in short I'd add quick learner to the attributes...without that attribute a student never progresses far enough to benefit from sustained experience, and might explain in part why sometimes a bright A level student would sail though a course whereas an Oxbridge graduate might struggle or even fail.

Oh he's far too old but there's no other image he can use now. Just relieved Global Statesman is gone (for now)

Yeah I have to agree @BasiliskStare & @notimagain it really boils down to putting other people at risk just to pander to a spoilt prince, so yeah I think he could & did fly in whatever capacity but ultimately like everything else it seems he couldn't be bothered to keep it up for whatever reason..still there for the awards & plaudits though 🙄

Another rebrand ??

Recklessismymiddlename · Today 14:51

I know

sorry was out so was best I could manage!

hoteltango · Today 15:00

I've got access to Woman & Home via my library (online) so I'll post extracts, as the article makes some good points.

hoteltango · Today 15:12

Obviously the article was written before Harry came to the UK, but the points about a rebrand are interesting. I've added four images of the second part of the article (the first part was about their earlier activities).

I was listening to Tom Sykes with Mark Dolan and he said Harry is five minutes away from lighting farts on TikTok! 😂
He did make one interesting point - his 20year old son had sent him a clip of the lavatory humour podcast on TikTok and pointed out it had 600,000 views (or likes - can’t remember which) and pointed out the younger generation aren’t interested in the monarchy but quite happy with the lewd cheeky chappy. Sigh. Is this the future? 🤔😓

Here is a classic scene with Steve Martin as Freddy in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. “Her laugh could make the birds sing”

The female presenter who gawpingly introduces her as ‘Masterchef royalty’ is like a parody of someone too. Calm down love, it’s really not that exciting.

If that's what lane they stick with, then it's the best for them tbh. It's not dignified but will give them the attention they crave
