The royal family

William denounced as "workshy" due to lack of royal engagements he performs

SpaEnjoyer · 25/06/2026 16:24

I read this article in the DM which was originally brought to my attention by my MIL, who has a very keen interest in goings-on involving the RF.

'His absences have not gone unnoticed': Norman Baker asks when 'workshy William' is going to step up https://mol.im/a/15908021

I must admit I was surprised to learn that William has attended fewer events than KC and Anne over the last 3 years. I agree with the sentiment that he needs to step up to ease the burden on his father.

NORMAN BAKER asks when 'workshy William' is going to step up

He might be a present husband and father, but when it comes to carrying out royal duties, the Prince of Wales is 'workshy', a royal expert has claimed.

Don’t take the bait! , it seems to be a thing lately, no doubt to provoke a response.

It seems to follow a pattern around these threads - in order to defend the K & Q, P&PoW, do a bit of whataboutisim/distraction with H&M.

But, when those arguing against the K & Q and P&PoW bring up H&M, a foul is declared.

The poster @Windsandstars seems to be making reasonable enough points about Place PR, how it is sometimes very ineffective and comes back to bite them. Not an unreasonable observation I would think.

I know, you’re right 🫤

Always nice to think that inaccuracies are ignorance rather than deceit but not always the case.

Surely this is against the rules?

Calling a poster deceitful??

NOT COOL @noonames

I knew people like you would twist things and go to personal attacks, not even surprised, that doesn't help your case.

You're missing the point. The criticism isn't that they aren't permitted to keep medical details private. The point is that they are currently struggling to balance historical secrecy with the demands of 24/7 modern media scrutiny. By being vague and then oscillating between silence and fake information and attacking common people like Virginia, they inadvertently fuel the very speculation they complain about. It’s not about needing to know the specific type of cancer, about the fact that the institution historically struggled to provide clear information and gv contradictory info, which creates a trust deficit that isn't just in their heads—it's a documented communications . Will you fail.to understand again and go to personal attacks again?

No sorry! , your thoughts go far beyond republican sentiment and veer into conspiracy and downright hateful nonsense!
i can’t imagine any real sensible republican would either claim you or defend you.

I am going to answer this but I have the dentist at 3.30pm so I cannot follow up.

This seems very over the top to me.

The poster says The point is that they are currently struggling to balance historical secrecy with the demands of 24/7 modern media scrutiny. By being vague and then oscillating between silence and fake information.

I fail to see the hate or the conspiracy?

Off the top of my head - we know that KC spent millions of pounds to clean up Camilla in the public's eye, pre marriage, and that part of that campaign included tarnishing the ex.
We know that their presence in the papers is very important to them and the quality of the presence - therefore that it is managed.

We know that the BP was very upfront and transparent about KC cancer diagnosis, and as a result there were no conspiracy theories.
We know that KP was not upfront and transparent about the PoW, and therefore there were conspiracy theories.
We know that KP released photos that got a very unusual "kill" notification from the best journalism agencies in the world.
We know that a "fake P&PoW" was tried out.
We know that BP, under the late Queen, gave appaling statements about the character of V. Roberts. Lots more besides.

In short - they have a history of getting it wrong - the poster is not incorrect or a conspiracy theorist to point that out.

With the money and elite profile they have it seems mad that they hire people who make such gaffs.

I also think that these ad hominem attacks on the poster rather than arguing the substance of her/his argument leads me to believe that you see the truth of it, in one way or another.

Off to get my gnashers polished!

Unless you have followed this poster’s comments about Catherine in particular all over this board ( which I hope you haven’t!)
then I would be particularly concerned about championing them so publicly!
if however you wish to , that’s fine , I and quite a few other posters now know what you condone.

MarmaladeorJam · 29/06/2026 14:50

@jeffgoldblum

I have no idea who the poster is, do not know anything that is said about the PoW. I am arguing the point, not the person.

I do not know who or what you are either for that matter.

The very sneery, highhanded, and slightly threatening (me and my gang)

Well I’m intrigued about your reference to “people like you” - which characteristics of mine are you referring to?

My questions were very clear (I think) but you don’t seem to have answered them. I was referring to your post, so when you said “the initial not cancer statement”, did you mean the statement they issued before she knew she had cancer? And “the vague diagnosis” - do you consider it vague because saying she had cancer was not specific enough and if so, what other information should she have included? And was KC3’s cancer announcement also vague, or just the PoW’s?

I can add another from your more recent post - which information are you referring to as fake when you say they were “oscillating between silence and fake information”?

Well I know you are defending a poster that has been making personal comments about Catherine, spreading misinformation about her cancer, I think that’s more than enough! 🤷‍♀️

edit having now read your whole post ( thanks fallen and not ) I take it back! You are both the same, you obviously not only defend it but subscribe to it too!!

I apologise if I got that wrong.

Seeing that such doubts exist, that's because the institution has failed to maintain transparency. The initial "not cancer" statement followed by a vague diagnosis was a PR disaster that involved Photoshop, silence that fueled public mistrust. When you combine that with a pattern of minimal work, the remission defense only works for so long before it looks like a shield for a lack of duty and to try to attack people who dare ask questions. The world doesn't work like that, she had cancer but so most people who need to work while in treatment and specially life is back to normal, with some adjustments, once in remission. And while she has every right to privacy, the public is naturally going to be skeptical when a clear diagnosis is withheld, especially given the existing perception that she has always been workshy.

Let’s be honest: if Meghan exhibited the same behaviour and work ethic, the same group shielding Catherine would be in an uproar (and with reason). It’s hypocritical to ignore the Palace's role in creating this suspicion, especially when the institution is simultaneously embroiled in scandals involving Andrew and the royals documented ties to illicit financial and criminal figures, just to point a few issues. Their credibility is at rock bottom.

The messaging from the palace was crystal clear about time scales.

The press and social media decided that the best response was a Where's Kate campaign to spread rumours about adultery, abuse, anorexia, suicide attempts etc etc. Maybe you missed that? It was disgusting and I'm not surprised many name changed after Catherine released the video explaining that cancer had been found. Lots of people were having a lovely time spreading lies, gossiping and generally behaving as if she were a fictional character rather than a wife and mother dealing with a difficult time in the public eye.

There is no excuse, and incidentally I think less of mumsnet for allowing the threads to stay up.

Since they let it ride at the time, it’s good they haven’t taken them down after the fact.

No one who didn’t see it could believe it really happened. Even the posters that participated, who have forgiven themselves for being so cruel and inhumane, would say it wasn’t that bad.

"We know that a "fake P&PoW" was tried out." Really?! Where?

Possibly the dental patient is alluding to a photograph purported to have been taken at a garden centre by a member of the public, and subsequently posted on social media, that may or may not have been of William and Catherine during the period when some particularly nasty little sugary gremlins circulated rumours on SM (including MN, to MNHQ's shame) that W had done her in.

Thus, conspiracy theory was heaped on conspiracy theory.

It all degenerated rapidly as intended, and many wondered if this was from the global offices of Spiteful Little C_s & Useless Grifters R Us PR Inc and best ignored by those in possession of (a) sentient thought, and (b) a life.

must be very inconvenient that some of us were around then and remember it all very clearly.

purplehydrangea79 · 29/06/2026 15:42

I sometimes wonder if some of the lingering resentment towards Kate could stem from the wall-to-wall coverage that she was given while suffering from HG whilst pregnant with George in 2012. I remember it very well. There was definitely some snark online from people saying the coverage itself was excessive, and there were comments from people saying normal women wouldn't have the luxury of receiving world-class medical treatment free of charge (which Kate received for the duration of it). 😏

That one picture! Oh. I'll go back to sleep then.

Serenster · 29/06/2026 15:52

Much of the Windsor farm shop hysteria stemmed from the fact that people were unwilling or unable to accept that video footage taken on a phone from the halfway down a car park is of very low image quality, and using AI tools to sharpen it doesn’t produce the actual underlying image, but rather what AI predicts it would be. Surprise, surprise, the AI prediction didn’t look that much like the Wales couple.

The same types of people are now claiming Kate didn’t actually do the Three Peaks challenge and the photos are faked - they have even claimed to same body double has been deployed! 🤣

Chimneyissues · 29/06/2026 15:55

I’ve seen people on Twitter say she did the 3 peaks on a horse/donkey and she had a full glam squad to give her a makeover at the top. Bananas.
Also that she only did it to get attention away from H&M tour details.
