Royal Melbourne Children’s Hospital is an excellent hospital. I suspect they were blindsided by how the visit turned out. They might have expected the usual Royalty visit - respectful, dignified event with genuine purpose eg opening new hospital / raising awareness of childhood illness and research advancements etc.

Instead, they probably had a team from LA herding surprised patients and parents into the photoshoot zone, disappearing after a few posed photos and then finding the photos posted onto a fashion merchandising website.

There might not have been a protocol to follow, or if there had been a protocol, the LA team may have considered it optional and ignored it.

The Sussex PR have already put it out there that the hospital were to blame for all negative optics in charge of any herding/how the meet and greet/photo op was to take place. Via answers to Tom Sykes (Daily Beast) about whose ill advised idea it all was.

Good points from Dr Max Pemberton (thanks, @TheAutumnCrow )
The perpetual victim narrative is wearing thin now.

How embarrassing for her, there were more people than that when I did a garage sale.

I've lectured to more undergrads than that in a 2nd year optional module on something I can only describe as 'niche' Grin

I love this! Yes quite! Harry and Meghan are like crotchless knickers from a back street sex shop in comparison!

🤣

No. If I do, I'll report back.

Could you? I've been a NED so I would be able to argue a similar-ish level of knowledge of and concern for for children's safeguarding. I didn't think I've have enough 'standing' in Australia, although of course the publicity has been huge in the UK - and Handiana is still 5th in LoS.

I'm also no 'PR expert', whatever that is, but I disagree with this person.

Harry and Meghan are already famous. They should be well beyond the 'any publicity is good publicity' stage. What exactly did this 'tour' achieve in the long term? Sure it got a lot of publicity, but it will be forgottten in a week. How is it going to help them with whatever exactly is their business model?

And this was not the first 'tour'. They did a faux royal tour in NY 5 years ago. Then we also had the Nigeria and Colombia jollies. This one got more hype because it's Australia, but none of their previous tours had any lasting impact. I suspect this won't either.

But true grifters don’t need a lasting impact - they sweep into town in some sort of razzle / dazzle high impact extravaganza and sweep out again fast before everyone realises they’ve been fleeced - like a seedy funfair or circus. They have a blueprint now and will just go country to country - start of with a tearjerker event involving children or animals, tie in with local designers, wrap it up with some disaster tourism and shoehorn in a couple of celeb presenting slots. Bake off / strictly etc are syndicated around the world - they could do 4 or so a year in small Commonwealth Territories that would lap it all up. They don’t need depth just a few local charities, commercial enterprises and media outlets collaborating on the grift.

corblimeygvnr · 19/04/2026 18:58

Where's the needed money in that @DirtyGertyy?

Or a functionless G-String irritatingly stuck up your crack that’s been round the block a fair few times and seen better days.

More than they can make in any other way. Local TV appearances, conf speeches, clothes/products deals merched online - all compressed into a week long whistle stop ‘tour’ expensed and funded to some other charity.

Who was 'fleeced' though? Meghan's 'event' was a damp squib and they were supposedly selling off discounted tickets to Harry's speech the week before. Masterchef have said she did not receive a fee for her appearance.

And if you have to go on a long distance flight just to do a 'celeb appearance' then clearly you are not in much demand. Do you really think an appearance on Masterchef Australia was what Meghan had in mind as the peak of her ambitions with all those grandiose finding freedom speeches?

There's no serious money in any of that.

Christ on a bike ...she didn't even get paid for MasterChef. Not sure how they can spin it as a success. Couldn't read all the fan girl write up
(barf) But if 30 people loving you does it and worth flying round the world and palming the kids off, she can fill her boots with expectations that low.

And they will always have the bank of Pa. Therefore they can make twats of themselves for as long as they like

Oh my god! So, basically, very little interest.

Agree - it’s not serious money - it’s desperate, barrel scraping stuff as they have tried everything else.

I've had some pictures pop up on my SM today of Pamela Anderson's wellness events in Australia this weekend that attracted 3,000 attendees and appeared to attract sponsors and vendors in comparison to Meghan's rather sad cash grab with few sold tickets.

It looks like Pammy got the audience that Meghan was trying to attract - plus they were allowed to keep their phones!

That would be because PA is an authentic woman of substance with a a long legacy career and integrity which people value and engage with - stark contrast to MM - who has none of that gravitas or actual grit or doing / output. Same as she has tried to copy Goop and expect riches in seconds.
