Beatrice and Eugenie banned from Ascot

Beatrice and Eugenie have been banned from the royal box at Ascot and from royal events in the foreseeable future. That's according to a headline in the Daily Mail. A little part of me feels a bit sorry for them as they're not their parents. I don't like them much but they do seem to symbolise all that's wrong with the royals. Money and immense wealth and priviledge for very little return.

Am I right in saying there were only 3 excerpts in The Times ? If so then I assume there is a lot more in the actual book .

Yes , I think they only release some teaser snippets to raise interest, the book will obviously contain more.

@NightBitch I'm not sure it's a requirement for one writer to convey another writer's admiration of a public figure.
If Sam Kashner had an issue with what was edited out of his article (the dishwashing ad story and the global philanthropy) the person to argue with was surely his editor, not Bower.

I read the article you linked from 4 yrs ago. Bower's response was in Newsweek:

Bower said in a statement released to Newsweek: "During a long telephone conversation with Sam Kashner on May 31, I read out to him all the quotations I had used of his interview with me for my book—and also conveyed to him much of the chapter. He did not make a single objection or correction."

Sounds like someone made an angry phone call!

bluegreygreen · 20/03/2026 11:56

I don't think so - the phone call was May, the book was published in July 2022. I think the call was Bower explaining how the interview was being used in the book.

The Times extract of that passage in the book is here (I don't have the book):

(Apologies - this is derailing from the main topic of the thread)

I was referring to h and m ( or Harry particularly) who seems to make a habit of phoning up and stamping his feet!

Yes, that was my first thought too.

In ending his letter to the editor, Kashner offered his "congratulations" for marrying Meghan.
"A belated congratulations to Prince Harry for taking such an extraordinary woman as his bride," Kashner wrote.
"Theirs is clearly a love match, so maybe we should stop piling on and let the couple live their life in peace."

🙄🙄🙄

Yes this definitely smacks of “ oi you defend my wife!”

simpsonthecat · 20/03/2026 12:23

Has this turned into yet another harry and Meghan are awful thread? Seems so.

Well as usual it started with someone bringing bowers book into it when it wasn’t the topic , then of course that opened the door to other discussions ….. but as you say threads meandering when they go quiet is the normal way on mn .

Just reversed depending on the thread.

Meanwhile someone is attacking @CathyorClaireon the other York thread 🤷‍♀️

bluegreygreen · 20/03/2026 14:09

To be honest, I thought both posters were being snarky on that thread.

Did you? , I thought Cathy was just impatient with her posts being misconstrued! , and I stand by the fact that despite our disagreements about the rf , she and I get on and she has never once been rude to me! 🤷‍♀️

just wanted to add that I fully respect your opinion and am in no way disregarding it.

Did he not do that with South Park ? That went well.
Apologies for derail .

the derail will continue. there can't be a thread in this topic that is not about H&M.

You weren't wrong 😉

In my defence I was responding to the tone taken when one of my posts was quoted.

I usually keep my snark-hound on a tight leash 🐕
