Support for Monarchy now down to 45%

Following on from the previous yougov polls, it seems the constant negativity about Andrew, Sarah Ferguson, William dodging tax / evicting people, Charles ignoring his brothers actions etc... has pushed royal support down to 45%.

How long until a future election process includes a party saying they'll have a referrendum on the Monarchy as part of their manifesto? probably not next time (3 years), but maybe the one after that?

Trust me, most owner occupiers do not live in old homes with the low energy standards of the duchies rented homes. Because owner occupiers want to keep their house warm and are willing to spend the money.

I have personal experience of retro fitting and have lots of friends who have. Double glazing can be tricky with stained windows and some types of listing don't allow double glazing. But even modern sympathetic single glazing tends to be more energy efficient than older poorly fitted or rotting windows, one of the issues renters have highlighted in duchy properties.

@onelilachedgehog- I'm not saying that it is impossible to retrofit and upgrade, just that there's probably no universal answer. Ultra thin or argon filled double glazing can be fitted in listed and heritage buildings now. Standard cavity wall insulution is rarely an option for stone built houses but other alternatives are available. There is a big push to install heat pumps these days but if your water pressure is too low - eg if you're on a private water supply- there are big problems.
Plus the logistics of rehoming families whilst upgrades are done.
As I said, there's no 'one size fits all' answer to this not inconsiderable issue.

Most properties in the UK do not have heat pumps and yet meet the legal standards for energy efficiency. Central heating with a condensing boiler, decent windows and appropriate insulation will bring most properties up to the legal standards.

The duchy properties do not have these. Tenants have spoken out anonymously. They have rotting ill fitting windows and no central heating. These are basic things.

An investigation by The Observer has revealed that Charles and William have avoided tax on property deals worth £70Million.
"The scale of the tax-free deals at the duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall is revealed as MPs vote tomorrow on a rise in the core sovereign grant for official royal duties. Both of the private estates, headed by the King and Prince William respectively, are exempt from certain taxes because of a crown exemption."

"Despite claims Charles would rule with a slimmed-down monarchy, MPs are being asked to approve a core sovereign grant tomorrow of £99.9m for 2027-28 – almost double the core grant of £51.8m in 2024-25."

I think these polls would be more interesting if they also asked if people supported the cost/upheaval of removing the royals and replacing the head of state with someone elected.

I don’t think there’s actually public hunger for that at this point.

Would you get rid of the royals in theory isn’t the same as “would you get rid of the royals and foot the (one off) cost and any upheaval for it?”

After brexit the public do not have the appetite for major change. No one government will touch it
However I think the millions spent on them is totally out of control and there is an appetite for reining that in or as Charles so quaintly puts it "slimming down".

So many questions raised including why Duchy holdings ever qualified for Covid loans, why staff costs have risen when the number of risibly styed 'working' royals has fallen and why properties across the estates are left to fall into disrepair.

And we're supposed to applaud W launching (whatever that means. Is he digging into his own pocket? Not clear) a Princetown community fund which represents around 1% of his Duchy income while disregarding the £4.5m he's trousered from the associated unusable prison since becoming PoW.

No doubt it'll all get by without touching the sides as usual though 🙄
