Support for Monarchy dwindling

Support for Monarchy now down to 45%

Following on from the previous yougov polls, it seems the constant negativity about Andrew, Sarah Ferguson, William dodging tax / evicting people, Charles ignoring his brothers actions etc... has pushed royal support down to 45%.

How long until a future election process includes a party saying they'll have a referrendum on the Monarchy as part of their manifesto? probably not next time (3 years), but maybe the one after that?

Blow for Royal Family amid Epstein scandal as support reaches tipping point

A new survey has suggested that support for the Royal Family is dwindling amid the ongoing Epstein scandal that has prompted Buckingham Palace to issue an unprecedented statement that the Royals will support the police if approached

I agree, it's all a bit stagnant isn't it.

Is there any need for "glamour" from the royal family? It's not the 1950s, the plebs don't need to be dazzled by their aristocratic betters

UserNomNom · 21/08/2026 12:10

Not stagnant. 😍

“Over in the US, harry and meghan have consistently visited and helped all sorts of charities, dished out food, helped cook, supported parents networks, refugee centres etc.”

It’s not gone over well in US. They do very little and always bring cameras for the big People Mag splash.

adragoncalledaudrey · 21/08/2026 12:15

I think I would prefer the RF as they are currently.

No-one needs the drama and lies and shady doings that swirl around the glamorous ones.

If that is glamour? They can keep it.

H and M turning up to the Uvalde shooting and the California wildfires in a totally inappropriate and self-aggrandizing way has played a part in their unpopularity with many in the US. They are not royals- in the US they are, at best, b list celebrities- and they are not wanted.

crascenda · 21/08/2026 12:26

There's no need for any of them to be visible. If they never appeared before a camera again I doubt anyone would notice TBH.

The King is HOS, that's all he has to do, and represent us at home and abroad and not make an arse out of himself, and he does his job in this respect very well.

The rest of them are not necessary. I don't believe their patronage of anything like charities etc. does anything much for those entities anyway, and half the time the charities are so obscure that most of us have never heard of them and never will again. But I suppose they must give the impression that they are working hard for our money. Princess Anne for example is never too far away from a dinner for this or that, or a lunch, or a ribbon cutting. She could photoshop herself in to any publicity shots and zoom a speech, same for all of them. Would save us a fortune. That is if they feel they MUST do all this for the optics.

Off with their heads!

I agree. I prefer substance.

I also don’t think Charles is going to foot the bill again for Meghan’s wardrobe and that would be necessary for “glamour” to be performed.

I agree. Photos like this are far more 'modern' than vacuous word salad or 'glamorous' outfits.

As for 'glamour', Kate and also Camilla can be plenty glamorous when the occasion requires. But I don't think people really want 'glamour' from royals. That's what models and actresses are for. Not to mention that if Kate turned up in a 'glamorous' outfit to open a community centre, there would be tons of criticism about the cost of her clothes and how out of touch she is.

The RF are clearly moving towards a model whereby the Monarch is Head of State, and the rest of the family, other than the Consort and Heir, are private citizens. That's the model practised by those European monarchies so many here seem to think are so wonderful.

UserNomNom · 21/08/2026 13:00

We are on the same page @IcedPurple and I think this was part and partial to the reason Harry and Meghan actually left. She wanted the glamour and then realized it’s mostly not, it’s engaging with normal people and listening to them.

That and she wasn’t getting paid.

Supported parents' networks ? For their own publicity .

Yes and no one could convince me that trip to Uvalde was anything but performative.

adragoncalledaudrey · 21/08/2026 13:09

I’m still wondering why H chose to go to the tomb of the unknown soldier this week of all weeks.

I’d have thought more of it if he’d have also have paid his respects to Sgt Atwell and Colonel Raible.

He was not laying it in the name of soldiers past and present here.

Just saying.

Anyway, I expect Republic are finding themselves unexpectedly busy this week with the number of membership applications they are getting. I hope they've got enough staff to cope.

If Harry wants to be part of injecting a bit of glamour back into the monarchy then I suggest he cuts down on the alcohol and weed, because he looks bloody awful.

He could also point out to his wife that the twerking would be better not repeated, and that dressing like a stripper when among traditionally garbed Nigerian ladies isn't a good idea

Probably in an attempt to gain some gravitas while everything collapsed around him @adragoncalledaudrey?

simpsonthecat · 21/08/2026 15:34

When did Meghan dress like a stripper? I haven't seen any pictures like that. I presume that's just your take on it.

BemusedAmerican · 21/08/2026 15:35

simpsonthecat · 21/08/2026 10:52

Isn't it funny, last I heard Meghan wasn't a working member of the Royal family and not taxpayer funded. Huge difference!

No, she and Harry are just forcing US tax payers to pay for NYPD entourages to tattoo parlors and Broadway shows.

simpsonthecat · 21/08/2026 15:41

Never mind, you'll be free of them soon. They're coming here. I'm sure that will please you greatly

See the strapless white sheath dress at the Armed Forces Complex in Abuja, or the confection she wore for the Women in Leadership discussion a day later

I usually avoid commenting on "appearances", but beside the splendid ladies gloriously and conservatively dressed in local colour it was hard not to notice

Then there was the writhing around with her crotch almost on display for Craig Ferguson, but at least that was only on a trashy talk show and not something where a little more gravitas might be expected

simpsonthecat · 21/08/2026 16:05

I won't be googling those outfits but your descriptions tell me it is just your bias coming through. A white sheath dress sounds great!
As for her showing her crotch. I doubt it.
You sound incredibly angry about her.

I'm looking forward to what they pull in the UK. Just read an article saying that it will cost the UK 5 million pounds a year if they are given security. Better you than us.

I'm interested in seeing if the rumors about the IRS and Archewell are true.😁

simpsonthecat · 21/08/2026 16:12

Could you link me to that article please?

Looks like your fellow Americans feel similar!

I agree fully puzzled this outfit to visit a school was particularly ill considered!

I'd forgotten that one, jeff, and had to smile at some of the bemused expressions from those around her

You do have to wonder why anyone would visit a school of all places dressed like that, but it all seems to fit with someone who has no idea at all how to behave
