Support for Monarchy now down to 45%

Following on from the previous yougov polls, it seems the constant negativity about Andrew, Sarah Ferguson, William dodging tax / evicting people, Charles ignoring his brothers actions etc... has pushed royal support down to 45%.

How long until a future election process includes a party saying they'll have a referrendum on the Monarchy as part of their manifesto? probably not next time (3 years), but maybe the one after that?

You do know that YouGov is an internationally respected independent market research company?

Are you confused by the word gov in the name mistaking it for a UK .gov owned site?

The polls they do are not vanity polls or influenced or controlled by the UK government or monarch.

Of course all polling is open to questioning as it’s not an exact science but as far as polling goes - yougov is one of the more reliable ones.

I have said for years I think they would have been well advised to hoik their bulging loot sacks over their shoulders and walk into the sunset when E2 died.

At least they'd have retained a semblance of dignity.

Is there a new poll out or what? I'm sure if it's negative towards RF, the kids will be wheeled out, George will pose in his Eton uniform, Kate will tell us about her fitness regime for the peaks challenge, William will get another helicopter to a conference on climate change, Charles will make another great speech like he did in the US, and Camilla will smoke another fag in private along with a G+T and wait for it all to blow over.

And the wheel will keep on turning.

Poll at the end of June has indicated support for the monarchy is at a thirty year low although still at an inexplicable 55%.

You'd think with dropping support they might make themselves a bit more visible while the country burns but nope.

All we get is a banal two sentence tweet from whatever luxury yacht or villa W's managed to blag for his usual two month vacay.

What do you mean by "make themselves a bit more visible"? Are you suggesting that they become like social media influencers or constantly pull stunts to get into the media? They perform their duties and engagements. They don't need to do anything else?

They already do schmaltzy videos amongst the sand dunes or whatever. They should work more. End of.

This is the kind of post that Hams supporters would say are unhinged if they were said about Meghan's videos. Yet here you are falling into that same category. Oh wait it's a matter of opinion ?

Ok let me explain again 🙄 You made a comment that others would describe as unhinged yet you talk about other posters making unhinged comments. It's really that simple. I'm baffled - but then not- that you cannot see that yours is in the same vein. If you can't understand that then I can't simplify it any further .

I think we are going to see, over the next few months, why the current working RF actually have it about right on visibility.

Right now I'm waiting for cast iron confirmation that I'm not going to be paying security costs for two non working royals. I find that more of a pressing matter than how often I'm seeing W&C post on their SM platforms.

All I said was K&W do schmaltzy videos and they should work more. You then link it to Meghan and say I have talked about others making unhinged comments. Please see my first paragraph. You keep using the word 'unhinged'. Not me.

For my part, and sorry for wading in, this is the moment where K and W will be wishing they’d been more visible doing bread and butter work over the past two years.

Where Meghan and Harry bring with them a maelstrom of drama, K and W need to have been the dreary, steady, reliable and stolid faces opening hospitals, visiting kids football matches, planting trees, opening shopping centres and other boring things that we traditionally expect and like our royal family to be seen doing. All that presence would have done a lot to quell the noise the Sussexes bring.

I don’t have an opinion either way on any of the royals per se, but it is silly to think that this is the ‘end of the RF’ like many people are suggesting. The crown they represent is an essential lynchpin for our country; our unwritten constitution and our institutions need an apolitical figurehead at the centre to orbit around. The human faces don’t really matter and, frankly, we’ve had a many worse scandals than this in the past!

That's great, there won't be any expectations from H and M for the British taxpayers to foot the bill for their security costs then.

It won't be a dramatic end to the monarchy, but accepting H and M back will be another part of the gradual erosion of public goodwill. Charles needs to recognise that he actually needs the support of the British public to keep his job.

That is an interesting post and I agree.

William has said he doesn't want to do the charity visits, the opening of whatever... he wants the big projects. No meet and greets and high volume.. That's fine but when it ends up as just Earthshot and Early Years for Kate, it is hardly the bread and butter of what we expect from the Royals. Which is visibility.

Over in the US, harry and meghan have consistently visited and helped all sorts of charities, dished out food, helped cook, supported parents networks, refugee centres etc.

I think kate and william need to go back to basics. They visited foodbanks a while back, but they were in a 20 mile radius of Windsor. They need to get out there and notch up a lot of visits. Otherwise, harry and meghan are going to make them look bad.

If Harry wants to be part of injecting a bit of glamour back into the monarchy then I suggest he cuts down on the alcohol and weed, because he looks bloody awful.

I agree, it's all a bit stagnant isn't it.

I just spit out my tea. Meghan can be glamorous but Harry? He looks like he needs a good bath and some grooming.

And both will need massive wardrobe help and tailoring.
