Yes I also wonder if they post the obscured partial photos of the dc to diffuse any competition among paparazzi to get the “first shots” of the children and reduce the value of them on the market.

I think they’re raising the value of a picture of the children’s faces because they are inflating people’s curiosity about what they look like. I am going to wonder what a child’s face looks like if I’m looking at a picture of the back of their head.

I'm always reminded of catalogue models - four strangers who met half an hour ago and have been told they're going to be a family, and directed into a load of really cheesy 'happy family' poses. They just don't really seem to have much chemistry, either as a couple or with the children, and the children don't seem to have any relationship to one another at all. Obviously, with the weird poses and face-hiding shenanigans it's probably hard for them to act natural, but I find it really difficult to imagine these four people relaxing together as a family playing board games, watching movies, laughing over something silly etc. The whole dynamic is just a bit odd, like they're all paid actors pretending to be Harry's wife and kids... and they're not that good at it!

This is the feeling I got from the WLM Netflix series too, that the characters were all pulled together with only a short time to get to know each other.

That’s EXACTLY why they’re doing it.

I wonder what they say to the children. We want to take lots of photos with you but you're not allowed to show your face. How do you explain that to a young child without either terrifying them or making them feel very insignificant?

Well, were I in that position I would take loads of pictures some with faces and some with not. I’d send the face ones to family and friends and the non face ones more widely. Doesn’t seem too tricky! But who knows what they do!

I dont think anyone should posts their children’s photos online, Royal or not, but I doubt the kids care or much explanation is needed. Either they take a load of photos, some which will show faces and some won’t or they just tell the kids to sit or stand a certain way. It’s not really too different to telling your kids to look at the camera, smile, look at mummy, look at your baby sister, put your arm around you brother, hold daddy’s hand etc which I, and I’m sure others have done to get a photo.

I think Harry and Meghan have managed it well.

I think it's the hypocrisy that annoys people @simpsonthecat. Harry is on record (in his most recent podcast interview with Hasan Minhaj) telling parents they shouldn't be putting photos of their children online, while the Sussexes the same week released photos and videos of their pumpkin patch trip.

The Wales children (at least George, and most likely the other two) will have a constitutional role as working royals, so need to get used to public appearances. Their parents are clearly trying to manage this. The Sussex children do not have that role.

Also it might be worth noting that the Waleses Christmas photo was taken back in April. The public has already seen images from this shoot so they aren’t being over exposed.

If I were in 'that position' I wouldn't publicly share photos of my children at all.

Why do you think complete strangers would be interested in the backs of your children's heads?

Absolutely no idea! But loads of people seem to be. I think the whole thing is quite bizarre, frankly.

LaurieFairyCake · 22/12/2025 17:35

But everyone knows it’s not natural as SOMEONE ELSE took the fucking photo

i think it’s because Meghans really good looking and frankly there’s no way her kids are as attractive as she is

If they’re good parents, their kids will love them. Lots of families have their own weirdness for one reason or another. It’s how it’s dealt with that’s important, in an open in an age appropriate way etc. Hopefully they’ll do that. There can be nothing weirder than knowing you’re going to be the future King, but hopefully Kate and William deal with that well too. With loving and supportive parents, all the kids will hopefully be fine, even with all the weirdness in all of their lives

I wonder what H and M will tell A and L in the future about why they are NC with both families ( apart from Doria) and that their paternal Grandad is a King .
Mind blowing .

Their reasons I suppose, like any of us do who are estranged from family. As the children grown up, they’ll realise that family dynamics can be complicated, like we all do. If the children continue to not have contact with them, they’ll be strangers to them. They’ll have their own lives with their parents, friends, education, work, hobbies etc. They’re unlikely to sit around spending all their time thinking about people who are strangers to them, they’ll just get on with life.

My children are older, they know the reasons why we’re estranged from some family and they love and trust us enough that we made the right decisions about that.

The thing is for most families you would accept what your parents say or not BUT for these children there is going to be so much out there about their family. They will be able to read it all and do much of it has been put out there by their own parents.

If you’re British, do you have any concept of Scottish ethnicity?

Indeed however I think it must be unusual to be estranged from both sides of the family . I only know of one person in that situation and it was due to religion.
A and L will see articles and events and read books about the RF . They will see their cousins and extended family ( Tindalls etc) having fun , riding in carriages etc and it would be very strange if they don’t ask questions.
Especially as they too have Royal titles .

CurlewKate · 22/12/2025 18:01

I actually think there are some family weirdnesses that even the best of parenting can’t get you through. Being-or having been a senior member of the royal family is one such. The weirdness is just so generationally ingrained.

They’ll likely trust their own parents if their parents are loving and they have a good, happy childhood. My family have contacted my older children to tell them how terrible we are 🙄 and to lie about the issues, but my children couldn’t be less interested. Their life is with us and the other actually people in their life.

My family and others who like to stick their beak in have convinced themselves that my children would get to adulthood and desperately want them, that they were just waiting to escape us. Lol. The truth is my children have had years without these people in their life and they’re nothing to them really. I don’t think just because Archie and Lilis family are the royals, that they’ll necessarily feel any different. They’re going to have a whole childhood spanning years without these people involved. I doubt the kids will care, they’ll be almost strangers. Also, growing up in the US, they probably won’t really get the whole Royal thing.

What a horrible thing to say. They are two beautiful little children as all children of that age are.
I don't think of children in the terms of attractiveness. Ever.

We are estranged from all family on one side and most on the other. My kids don’t care. They trust the choices we made and they have good lives that don’t involve them. I’m sure people think that kids sit around pining for estranged family, but they really don’t. They are strangers. I don’t think being royal will make much difference, they’ll have their title and get on with whatever they choose to do.

Maybe she has just inherited curly hair from her parents. It’s really odd that people keep going on about a child’s hair, especially as her mum is mixed race and has natural curl and her dad seems to have curly hair too so she’s likely inherited hair that isn’t straight or sits smoothly. I’m sure people realise that yet they keep calling it unkempt, messy and unbrushed. Hmm 🤔

to MEGHAN! Not to me. Just a reason why she doesn’t show their faces 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️ that she doesn’t want bitchy people to say they’re not as good looking as her. Because she realises she’s better looking. And she likely is as she’s stunning.
