@BemusedAmerican Also, if Harry is indeed hinting that Charles has a short time to live, then William shouldn't be criticized for organizing his Duchy and spending time with his family while he still can do so

I thought the same thing.

Are we still discussing the Harry in flying suit pic that M used?

If so It's from 2015 - check out the badge on his right side of his chest.

There's a whole batch of images here from the day, including the original of the one used for the birthday greeting.

Every single one of those photos is better than the one used for his birthday greeting. She’s not very nice, his wife.

She’s not very nice, his wife. no she isn’t.

There are some really nice pictures there! How strange to choose that one.

It kind of has a feel of putting him in his place. Perhaps she was not thrilled he sought a thawing of relationships with his father. Especially if it has been altered to make him look ridiculous. And the infantilising language. It feels like an assertion of control.

Ahhh I looked it up and I see we have the same protocol here in the UK. You're right regarding the situation in America.

But are the children of foreign Royalty also subject to the same law I wonder?

When H&M got married was there any sort of prenuptial agreement regarding custody and travel arrangements of children in the event of divorce, or is there any law regarding this?

It looks like if they ever did split up, which I think to be unlikely, things would be very difficult. As it is, it seems somewhat strange that children with foreign royal titles would still be subject to a parents permission to travel to the country that literally bestows such titles.

I should think so unless they have ipp status or whatever it is that Harry's been trying to get for years

And lived in an apartment in Kensington Palace, where he grew up

And the DoK was the only member of the RF who publicly and privately supported his Mother after her separation and divorce.

Mildorado · 16/09/2025 07:32

Yes, he knew that late Duchess well, throughout his life. She wasn't just a "grandparent's cousin". I don't know if he will attend the funeral today, last night was just the Receiving In, according to Catholic liturgy. Only close family attend. I hope he doesn't go to the funeral, because that makes it all about him.

I think it is odd that he didn't stay on for the Duchess of Kent's funeral.

He’s too chicken to face W.

Yes, we'll see what happens at the funeral. I suspect you're right.

JudgeJ · 16/09/2025 07:38

Mildorado · 15/09/2025 22:42

Ah, come on. She was well known! Plus the late Queen always included the Kents at the Trooping etc. I've seen pictures of Harry at most of the Kent weddings. He certainly knew her.

The Kents and the Gloucesters have been filling the gaps in the Royal schedule since he and his mrs threw their toys out of the pram in 2020, despite their ages.

The Requiem Mass is at 2pm today. The King and Queen will be in attendance.

*I feel a lot of support from the British public. Even now, when I feel like I have been destroyed by certain members of the British press.
“It serves them to think that the British public feels the same way about me as they do.

“But I don’t feel that and I don’t see that. For as long as I have known, certain elements of the British press have tried to speak on behalf of the nation. I think they are out of touch with the nation on lots of things.
“They hope to bring the public with them, but … I think the British public can speak and think for themselves*

Mate, have you seen the polls?

This seems like a classic example of the strategy of if you say it often enough, people will eventually think it's true. He must surely know it isn't, as you say.

But then who knows.

Saying he hadn't aired his dirty laundry in public is positively Trumpian in it's reconstruction of reality.

This will be the first time a monarch has attended a catholic mass in 400 years so culturally today is important also. Westminster Cathedral is a very beautiful church. RIP to the Duchess of Kent - she was always an elegant woman.

OVienna · 16/09/2025 07:56

NautilusLionfish · 15/09/2025 07:58

You think William will be king? The monarchy will still be here?

We are not talling decades away, I'm afraid....So yes, she said William not George.

JustineRobots · 16/09/2025 07:59

I hope he doesn't go to the funeral, because that makes it all about him.

Precisely why he shouldn’t, and probably won’t go. It’s a private funeral - the close family don’t need it turning into a circus of “Where will Harry sit? Will he speak to William?” and tabloids getting pop psychologists to analyse paparazzi snaps from outside the chapel.

I don’t know why some posters are coming down so hard on my comment. Maybe it’s because they think it’s in support of Harry. It isn’t - my other posts on this thread should make that clear. I’m just trying to be even-handed and to point out that this is not the same as missing a close family member’s funeral. I’m also not trying to suggest he never clapped eyes on her as some people seem to think. But let’s face it, living on the same royal estate doesn’t mean a man of 40 and a (very private) woman of 90 were bosom buddies. I doubt he was casually popping in and out raiding the fridge like he was Joey and she was Monica.

Weepixie · 16/09/2025 08:20

If I came across as being hard on your comment it wasn’t intention. I just felt the DofK was more than a grandparents cousin in the grand scheme of things.

Mylovelygreendress · 16/09/2025 08:21

I think the fact that the DOK was supportive to his mother made it seem likely H would attend .

@JustineRobots I hope I didn't come down hard on your comment. I see your point, although it's valid to suggest that she did have a long presence in Harry's life.

Yes he may well do one of his flying visits however he only returned home on Sunday (?) so it would be a very quick turnaround plus not very eco friendly !

When has he ever cared about being eco friendly?

Needspaceforlego · 16/09/2025 08:41

I can't believe how many people think he will have a choice over going.
I doubt he will even be invited. People aren't going to be able to rock up at any sort of Royal funeral without an invite.

Do her family really want the hassle of making sure hes carefully positioned behind a candle or who hes sat away from, easier just don't invite him.

And to be fair I’m sure he would have been there if he was still a working royal. But ultimately the Duchess of Kent was known to have actively stepped back from royal life in recent years - no royal duties, no longer using HRH and so on - so would probably have wanted as private a funeral as possible. Harry being there in the current circumstances would create a media circus.
