And while a no-holds-barred expose would be inappropriate for this anniversary, a trot through the usual clips and a soppy hagiography will be tedious and anodyne.
Diana was much-criticised in the press before her tragic death, then almost canonised as a result of it and since then we’ve learned that she was (like most people) a complex, troubled and often not very nice person. I don’t want to see a cruel expose of her character- we don’t need it - but I really don’t want to waste time on a sentimental, soft focus documentary either.
And the idea of doing this without William’s input is ridiculous. I guess William, who was older and whom Diana involved in her various love affairs, may have a different perspective and probably just wants his mother, with her faults and strengths, to be allowed to rest in peace.
