William's non attendance to important events

Since there is a flurry of discussion on another thread its probably best to create a thread for it to take place here and not derail another one.

So William is not attending a number of important events the recent one being the VJ day..lots of you think he should have after all he is the future King and if he can't make time for these things then it begs the question what is the point of them?

So discuss away...what should he turning up to, what is his actual role if he starts to not do these types of things...

What do we know then? Do tell.

We know that she was undergoing surgery after a history symptoms and cancerous cells were found. She went through a course of chemotherapy and was cancer free.

Like I said, I don’t deny that I’m speculating. But based on that information I have my suspicions.

William did say not long ago that he wanted to carry out his duties with 'a smaller r in royal'... an intention to downsize. Or maybe he has a subconscious desire for a larger r in republican ... I don't get the impression he relishes passing on the baton to George.

Does he want to receive a lot less of an income too?

I'm ambivalent about most of the royals ( got a soft spot for Anne) and think they they all need to work for their income. Some most definitely more than others.

The Wales family have been skiing this year and on a billionaires yacht in Greece. Now they’re off to summer in Scotland. That’s more rest and recuperation than vast swathes of the population will get.

The Wales family had about a week in the Caribbean, two weekend ski trips in France, and around a week in Greece. If they follow their usual pattern, they’ll likely spend a weekend at Balmoral. Stop exaggerating.

hangerup · 20/08/2025 13:08

That tour received adoring coverage but my relative’s comments ring in my ears whenever I notice eg William’s many absences.

Not the Caribbean tour then!

Which is far more than the average family will get in a year. And much, much more than a family that has had to cut back on work due to a cancer diagnosis within the family unit.

The part I don't get is - let's say he gets a (pretty generous) month off a year for holidays.

He very very rarely does engagements during the school holidays, which are about 16 weeks a year.

So his role is term time only? Or is it just that he doesn't do events during school holidays and he is doing the rest of his role (whatever that is).

I can see a massive selling point from saying 'Hi I'm a male heir to the throne and I can structure my work to be term time only and make sure I play a role in bringing up my kids. I want to be a role model for other dads in this respect.'

Of course it has to be done right or it just exposes their enormous privilege (and see point I made that I suspect people will expect him to only being paid part time rates if he only works part time - however that would actually be interpreted in the whole context), but if that's his position I think he'd be better owning it and being open.

So the Greek yacht wasn't a rumour?

With the rumours of infidelity etc., is he a role model of a dad?

hangerup · 20/08/2025 13:11

Why was it so secret? the private jet & the yacht?

The yacht in Greece was already debunked!
camilla was on a yacht though!
this is exactly my point! Posters are basically critical of them from false reports without fact checking at all!

bluegreygreen · 20/08/2025 13:12

I thought the tabloids could find no evidence of the Greek holiday (even though the Daily Mail tried multiple times)

Even without the yacht.

Can you not see how that’s a lot of time away for a family working part time?

Bananafofana · 20/08/2025 13:15

@ThatAvidViewer no, I’m not making it up. I’ve sat on this for 5 or so years and never posted about it before - though I’ve often been tempted on threads like this. Finally over my lunch time coffee today I thought I’d get it off my chest.

These itineraries are planned years in advance due to security issues. So you’re absolutely right there were no changes to the published itinerary. The deletions were made before publication (but when the plans were in place). If I wanted to “try” making something up I would have gone for a much more salacious tale, rather than a carefully worded paragraph that doesn’t reference which tour or my relative’s exact role. I could have given many more specifics and a few other insights but I didn’t want to put my relative in jeopardy.

But no matter, I’m not going to convince you so I’ll leave it there and get on with my day!

hangerup · 20/08/2025 13:15

Where was it debunked? The palace are normally pretty quick to condemn fake stories

Some of these replies seem rather unfair. The Royals are privileged yes .However they are still human ,and caring for someone with Cancer is tiring .I am in remission from Cancer, at the same time as Kate. And feel tired much more than normal .I think comparing PW to KC is unfair .He is not king, and as a prince is not expected to attend every engagement.KC has himself and Camilla only .PW has a young family ,and a wife recovering from a serious illness .If we want a RF we may have to accept they will be different from QE reign of Duty first.More like the workforce. 3 or 4 day weeks WFH and so on .

King Charles is undergoing cancer treatment.

William and Catherine don’t work from home!

hangerup · 20/08/2025 13:16

And I thought there was no evidence of the ski trip either but it did happen

Tiswa · 20/08/2025 13:17

@jeffgoldblum they do need to work. They are high up WORKING royals

No one is working August but Princess Roysl has 26 engagements for September, Duke of Edinburgh 8 Duke of Gloucester 6

so far there is nothing booked in for the rest of the year.

he is Heir to the Throne in a country increasingly making noises about being a Republic, with other countries who do have King Charles as Head of State definitely leaning towards being a full Republic

@MrsDoubtfire1 it is necessary now - he needs to work out whst the face of the Royal Family will be in this much more modern world and so far he is failing

Rumours started suspiciously and not proven or speculated about anywhere but on sm?
these rumours are what you feel give you the entitlement of declaring he’s a bad father! 🙄

ThatAvidViewer · 20/08/2025 13:18

She had surgery for a non-cancerous condition, and the cancer was only discovered afterwards through histology tests. When they operated, it was to fix that initial problem—and who knows if she still struggles with issues from that condition, even after the surgery. It could have been Crohn’s, or something else just as difficult.

On top of that, she’s had chemotherapy, which comes with its own lasting side effects.

She said herself only a couple of weeks ago that she can’t function at home like she used to, and that it’s very difficult.

Nobody knows what type of cancer she had, what stage it was, or what her prognosis looks like.

People should stop being so judgmental. Honestly, people never learn—this thread is just like last year, or maybe it’s the same few stirring things up again.

You’re right, it really is unreasonable of me to expect the future head of the armed forces to sit in church he’s the future head of for a couple of hours - I’ve seen they’ve put something on Instagram so all is forgiven.

I didn’t even know they’d been to the Caribbean…

Honestly, the pure sycophancy towards the royal family winds me up. Prince William is purely where he is via accident of birth. He is not innately better or more deserving than anybody else in this world. With the huge amount of resources he has available to him he could, and should do a lot more. I’d be embarrassed if I was regularly being lapped in the number of engagements by octogenarians. But they can distract the serfs with a picture of a cute kid or fling an attack at Meghan and Harry so nothing will ever change.

hangerup · 20/08/2025 13:20

To be fair that poster may not care about them working or not and is happy to wave a flag & cheer regardless. But it's not a hard stretch to understand that some of the public might want to see work.

Mydahliasareshit · 20/08/2025 13:21

It wasn’t even in church, so clearly it doesn’t matter that much to you—you don’t even know the details. William was there 5 years ago representing the Queen, Charles wasn’t. Yet I don’t see endless threads complaining about that. Funny how selective the outrage is.

Then in that case step back entirely and take a cut wage (as anyone else in her shoes would)
