There have been some interesting Riyal programmes on Channel 5 recently .

catin8oot5 · 06/07/2025 19:10

I was just about to say - CH5 is going to town in royal programmes lately

CathyorClaire · 06/07/2025 19:53

Thanks, OP. I shall watch on catch up.

C5 do seem to be going quite heavy on H&M lately. Interesting.

twinklystar23 · 06/07/2025 20:14

Its really sticking the boot in 😬

FightingFish · 06/07/2025 21:01

Never mind Meghan Markle. Channel 5 seem to have found the perfect business model. Cheap to make but intriguing TV, streaming existing clips with a bunch of talking heads making catty observations!

Vespanest · 06/07/2025 21:31

Watching on delay, I'm use to 5 trying to give both sides, so far it's been brutal.

jeffgoldblum · 07/07/2025 08:13

I watched some of this last night, I was surprised because normally channel 5 are very favourable towards h and m !

upinaballoon · 07/07/2025 08:36

There was a programme about Kate first, very glowing, and then one about Meghan. I didn't watch either properly - channel hopping and had to switch away from a very affectedly-spoken journalist. As one of you has said earlier, they are so easy for Channel 5 to bang them out. They regurgitate the same old stuff and then pop on a few new bits. They could condense the new bits into two minutes.

I gave up after she was described as a Hollywood actress who had earned 6 million pounds. It seemed very sycophantic to me .

It got slightly more favourable to her with some of the contributors but the programme had zero data on her business, so was pointless in that part, at least Meghan was described as driven even if some hinted calculated. Harry was framed as the gormless fool trapped and useless in all but the status his name gives. For an hour it was cheap TV opinion piece. For WLM it was under 3 million views which by some was deemed positive, but the show didn't say if the figure was individual viewers, or the streams of all episodes or if they kept the viewers. There was little of substance.

JSMill · 07/07/2025 09:21

I watched about ten minutes but got bored! I noticed they repeated the $5 million claim again and were portraying her as some kind of self made woman. She was living in a modest rented house in Toronto when she met H.

IsoldeWagner · 07/07/2025 09:31

I thought she was portrayed as driven and hard working and ambitious, and that wasn't criticised as such. I think the problem was if she had done the trad wife and clothes merching stuff straight away, after leaving the UK, it would have been ok. It was the explosive stuff about the royals that was the problem.
Meghan has to trade on her title and her royal connections, because that's all she has, but doing it in the most recent form isn't toxic.
Harry didn't come across too well, and I laughed at his Spotify suggestions! Putin and hot chocolate 😂

Yes, I think they were trying to say that she'd been financially successful in her own right before joining the RF.

IsoldeWagner · 07/07/2025 09:47

Bonnie Greer has previously been very supportive of Meghan and it was interesting to hear her criticisms.

Oh I missed that!
I only caught a few snippets because I was in and out , I will be honest it’s the first time I heard her speak and I wasn’t surprised to find it irritating.

It's worth watching, @jeffgoldblum because it does go through their post official royal life and was interesting in parts.

I’m a terrible person @IsoldeWagner, I much prefer someone else does the hard work and tell me about it after!! 🤣.
otherwise I find myself irritated and constantly telling the tv “ thats not true “ and “ did you not fact check?”

😂😂😂
I thought it was interesting when they explained about the payments for Netflix and Spotify. Also what happened with "The Bench". Basically, they trashed the only thing that was lucrative to them: links to the RF.

Vespanest · 07/07/2025 13:33

There was contradictions, there was some that believe she can and has sold high numbers and that Netflix see this in line with their Bridgerton range and expansion. But surely the one group of people that does have the as ever figures is Netflix. Yet we're meant to believe that neither Meghan nor Netflix are competent to restock goods that sell out tens of thousands in minutes with thousands of disappointed supporters. I can see Meghan being concerned with over saturation and the long term future but Netflix would be for the here and now. I know I'd heard the Putin from Harry but it alway makes me smile. I wouldn't be surprised if Meghan does do well in investing. I did feel 5 was unfair with the some of the choice of pictures they used, it did feel the researcher may have picked a side.

I think I did see that bit 🤣
was there anyway else of interest ( I ask cheekily! 🤣)

Yes we had heard about putin !
but I’m sure there was another ( unsuitable) person mentioned originally too?

I hate to say it but putin is such an egotistical person, he may well have agreed to big himself up!!
( only if it was conducted in Russia and then poor Harry may have quietly disappeared! )

There was an interesting theory about the limited drops/small numbers strategy over on Reddit (sorry). It claimed that she is not trying to make huge profits but it is a desperation measure to get her As Ever trademark approved by proving that it is a "real company" and "trading" in the categories she is attempting to trademark by providing evidence of the minimum level of trading required to trademark.

She applied to trademark As Ever in a number of categories including teas, jams, honey, wine, baking products and seems to be dropping a small batch of white label/drop shipped items in each category.

Her attempt to trademark As Ever clothing has been rejected as there is already a Chinese company trading under ASEVER

So you only want to watch something with negative points to make? Like singing into an echo chamber

To be fair she was earning by most people’s standards, really good money. She had made several low million dollars.

which frankly is more successful than any other royal wife

Partly as it contradicts Harry's shame at them having to buy a sofa on mehgans credit card and as they were married the upset at the Charles had cut them off financially. If they were both multi millionaires I'm failing to see the problem. Or why Harry was portraying the woe is us, they were both loaded. Two different versions that exist to suit the narrative of victims or winners.
