To be fair she was earning by most people’s standards, really good money. She had made several low million dollars.

which frankly is more successful than any other royal wife

She was being paid well for Suits - the problem with the $5m claim is that was what a newspaper had estimated she earned from being in Suits for x number of seasons.

But it doesn’t take into account taxes, agent percentages, PR firm fees (we know she was with Subshine Sachs while in the BRF and they are not cheap) general living costs - TV actress hair, face, makeup and clothes upkeep is not cheap.

The repeated line is that she entered the marriage with $5M in savings/assets but that doesn’t seem realistic or possible.

CantThinkOfAUsername57 · 07/07/2025 15:21

Who really cares? H&M are no longer tax payer funded. They can do what they like with their money and it is not the public’s business.

Must have quite a sad and empty life if this programme genuinely interests you..

And yet you opened, read and commented on a thread about it 🤔

I watched about ten minutes but got bored! I noticed they repeated the $5 million claim again and were portraying her as some kind of self made woman. She was living in a modest rented house in Toronto when she met H.

Wow what an awful comment. She was working earning her own money that allowed her to buy a house. What is so unsuccessful about that? She would have been warnong more than I earn...thats pretty successful to me. I'd also add that getting onto a tv series as an actress for multiple seasons is also something to say is a success. That isnt easy to do, Hollywood as we know is full of people trying to get a break.

I consider myself a successful self made woman. I have a job paying me money that I've used to buy a modest house in outer London without help from anyone or having a partner contributing towards it. I think that is can say im self made in thay respect and been successful so far.

So what do you consider a self made successful woman should be? Someone who paid for a million pound house on their own?

Netflix CEO faces investors on 17th July for Q2:2025 earnings call so it is interesting that these new, lower numbers for the H&M deal that lost Netflix money, are out in the public arena via "sources".

"The Sussexes’ Netflix deal – reported to be worth up to $100 million, though sources say it’s actually closer to $20 million – is also up this year."

Exclusive | Prince Harry and Meghan Markle cut back on staff to save some cash: sources

“It’s the same old story – they cycle through staff as quickly as normal people cycle through toilet paper,” said one royal source.

Are you sure she even had her own rented house? I thought she lived with Cory Vitiello, at least she was when she met Harry.

That's a good point. There was no mention of him.

A financial expert explained about the Netflix deal and how the money didn't end up directly "in their back pockets", but had to pay for the programme production, essentially.

Harry has had a lot of taxpayer funding, especially in the last year
He'd like a limitless amount of course, but fortunately the Court said "no".

IsoldeWagner · 07/07/2025 16:14

Vespanest · 07/07/2025 15:19

Partly as it contradicts Harry's shame at them having to buy a sofa on mehgans credit card and as they were married the upset at the Charles had cut them off financially. If they were both multi millionaires I'm failing to see the problem. Or why Harry was portraying the woe is us, they were both loaded. Two different versions that exist to suit the narrative of victims or winners.

Oh, that sofa story 😂! I just don't know why Harry says stuff like this, which is obvious nonsense. It's all to do with the victim narrative, we know that, but it gets a bit silly.

I mean, I don't want to send the thread in another direction, but the M&C, M&H relationship timelines really don't add up.

Never mind Meghan Markle. Channel 5 seem to have found the perfect business model. Cheap to make but intriguing TV, streaming existing clips with a bunch of talking heads making catty observations!

I don’t have a tv licence anymore but one thing that drove me to stop watching normal tv was the copious amounts of ‘talking head’ programmes all channels seemed to churn out. Can’t stand that format!

She didn’t buy her own house, she rented it.

Okay rented then, and then so what tons of people rent? Are you not successful if you rent? Its more acceptable to rent houses outside of the UK compared to owning.

The point is she earned her own money and was living in a modest place and that isn't seen as successful? Thats crazy.

LadyJaneGrey18 · 07/07/2025 16:48

No one is saying she wasn’t successful at the time, but she was a third rate actress no one had heard of.

She also didn’t own a car .

So? What's the issue? Millions of people buy a car on finance particularly through work as it works out better, or if self employed more tax efficient.

Whars your point about her not owning a car? Is this something to really criticise someone over?

No, I just wanted it to be truthful and unbiased. It didn’t start off like that in my opinion.

Agree!

H&M did themselves no favors by putting out numbers that anyone with a modicum of financial analysis skills would immediately side-eye. Production deals are not the same as the take-home cash because production expenses need to be subtracted and the taxman must be paid.

Also, if the production deal was for $20 million then H's desire to shove production expenses onto Invictus and Sentebale (polo match) makes more sense as shooting scenes at these events would help stretch the budget.

What H failed to understand was that he could not simply use these charities as the backdrop for production due to a host of financial and legal regulations that prevent exactly this scenario!

I don't think you'd need to be an 'expert' to know that figures widely quoted about their NF deal were a complete fantasy. Some of us here have been saying for years that media giants don't hand over huge sums just like that. They won't have made much (relatively speaking) from Spotify either as the contract was cut short.I would say 'Spare' has been easily the biggest earner for them over the past few years, but that's not something that can really be repeated.

I can't see 'As Ever' being a major money spinner, and their value as a couple has dropped significantly in the past few years. So other than investment returns and interest from savings, I really don't know where they can earn big money going forward.

IsoldeWagner · 07/07/2025 17:30

Good points, @IcedPurple , and they compared the merchandise to that of Royal Duchy products. I genuinely don't know how she keeps getting it so wrong, they must have financial and/or business advisors?

Perhaps, but it's shitty of them to make money off their titles, off the back of the royal family and also by doing pretendy fake royal visits for cash ... they are, and look like grabby idiots
