Page 6 saying Oprah is poking fun at the Sussexes with her pronunciation of their name. I don't really see how this story can be seen in a good way or humane in any way, unless you are a complete moron. Which is maybe why all the Sussex friendly media think it's charming.

"As he opens the door, the mama duck flies out. And he’s got all the baby ducks in a box," Winfrey recounted. "We’re chasing the mama duck who is in the front yard and has flown to the other side. We’ve got her ducks. Harry’s running after, Meghan gets out, she’s running after, chasing the mom and trying to get her to come back to her ducks."
"And for like half an hour, we’re running around with the ducks in a box. We have video. It’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen," she concluded with a laugh.

Yeah hilarious.

The mama duck was clearly so distressed and disoriented that she didn't recognise her own babies. How we laughed!

"The ducks also hit the jackpot," Ripa added with a laugh. "They’re like, ‘Wait a minute, we show up at Prince Harry’s house and now we’re at Oprah’s!’ Excuse me. That duck knew what it was doing when it laid its eggs."

I'm sure the duck just wanted to raise her ducklings in peace, not be used as a PR tool by a collection of has-beens.

Idiots.

CoffeeCantata · 19/07/2025 16:28

@IcedPurple

Oh wow - isn’t that a depressing ‘hilarious’ anecdote? None of these idiots seems to know anything about the natural world. You leave wild creatures alone to do what they have to do unless they’re in imminent danger.

Wild ducks (mallards) always take their brood for a walk when they’ve hatched and the mother knew exactly what she was doing. Chasing them would have been terrifying for the ducks, but hey - worth it if it made for a hilarious video.🙄

BasiliskStare · 19/07/2025 23:13

I'd have thought even in the "before" H having grown up running around Balmoral etc would have know how to treat a duck family. Oprah hasn't done them any favours with this story. I know nothing of Californian rules for wildlife but some common sense would apply for most people I would have thought. I do think if this was meant to be a humorous anecdote it has missed the mark in a big way.

bluegreygreen · 20/07/2025 10:33

Genuinely can't work out if this is Oprah doing 'humorous anecdote involving Sussexes' or 'snarky anecdote involving Sussexes' - none of them come out of it very well.

CathyorClaire · 20/07/2025 10:34

I don't think Henry has ever known how to treat birds and animals humanely TBH.

So many stories - the mystery of the hen harriers, the water buffalo, the appalling treatment of his polo ponies. I think he's always seen them as there to be used and abused to his own ends. Possibly partially due to his upbringing and the entire family being so very enthusiastically steeped in bloodsports but even so it'd be nice to see one of them break the mold.

I'm veering towards snark especially in light of the speech blocking arse incident at Godmothers.

I can't quite work out what's in it for Oprah though. If as some speculate she's looking for the post divorce tell all interview she's not bolstering her chances. Maybe she's looking to distance herself from the circus but given she's forever inextricably linked to them via 'that' interview it seems a non-starter.

RandyRedHumpback · 20/07/2025 11:06

I think Oprah is asked about them as a direct consequence of "The Interview", much to her chagrin. Like many, she's been Markled. She can't come out and say she regrets that bloody interview, so she snarks at them instead under the guise of a superficially cute anecdote. There's nothing cute about it though. She makes fun of their surname, pretending she can't pronounce it. That's PA. She makes it clear Harry refused to wait when she asked and inconvenienced her turning up, making him look arrogant. She makes him look like a complete fool in opening the car door so the mother duck flew out. It is they, not her, who acted badly towards those ducks. I think she is well aware of the cruelty of the situation.

She's canny. She knows what she's doing. They need her more than she needs them, if only to have social currency in Montecito. If/when the divorce tell all comes, Oprah will have her own stories to tell, so whether she gets that gig or not is probably not that big a deal to her.

Edit to add. For all Oprah's faults, she's self made from nothing and worked hard. I imagine she has quite a lot of contempt for 2 people who were offered so much in life, the sort of riches she had to graft for, and who have done so little with it. She may once have believed in them, but after 5 years of nothing burgers, I think she sees them as the talent free, busted flush that they are, hopelessly and without conviction copying others' success stories in the hope of short circuiting the hard yards portion of the process.

But I’d suspect the others who might have once, or still do take part in blood sports are not pig-ignorant about the natural world and the countryside, which Harry appears to be. Harry represents the worst of all possible worlds on this subject.

No disrespect to pigs, which I’m very fond of and which I know are intelligent creatures.

Slight derail but could someone please explain the allegation that H and M owe Tyler Perry money ? I have seen it mentioned on MN and alluded to on X .

I was a bit confused by this too. The impression I got from the SM chatter was that, when they lived in his house and used his jet, it wasn't actually a freebie and he expected to be paid for it. He's quite notorious for being tight fisted with his own family, so doing a favour for a pair of complete strangers makes a bit more sense if it really wasn't one.

BemusedAmerican · 20/07/2025 16:28

It was illegal for them to transport the mallard and ducklings under US law. The Sidley Twins have provided a link for Americans to file complaints about the actions of H, M & O.

US law:https://www.fws.gov/story/ducks-your-pool

They could have contacted a wildlife rehabber and the ducks would have been safely moved. Their vet could have given them a referral.

If it wasn’t for the fact the ducks were traumatised during the move I’d be enjoying a very big laugh at this latest update.

I think it would have been a huge win for a monarch who is allegedly interested in modernising the monarchy to ban bloodsports from all royal estates and preferably give them up altogether. Even better if others had joined him.

Such an easy crowd pleaser but nothing doing.

Interesting to see if the other half of the 'Killer Wales' follows through on this aspect of the modernisation and doing things his way he's apparently so determined on.

I don't know how prominent these two brand specialists are but this is a report on their podcast. It says she's tapped back from ShopMy thing , which I would have thought would be an easy income stream for her - it implies she doesn't need that money - according to a source.

Meghan Markle is 'milking' fame from Prince Harry to 'sucker people'

Lawyer Phillip Millar and California marketing executive Camille Moore, stars of popular The Art of the Brand podcast, believe the launch has been one of the worst they have ever seen.

but did agree with the sentiments.

That's not really how it works though, is it?

You don't back away from a supposedly easy source of income because you've got 'enough' money. People far richer than Meghan maintain multiple income streams, because why would you not?

I think, as ever (!) with Meghan, she has a very short attention span and gives up on things very quickly. I doubt she made a ton of money from her ShopMy page, and 'As Ever' is likely still running at a loss. She's probably just become bored with the ShopMy page, and I expect her to become bored with 'As Ever' quite soon too.

BasiliskStare · 21/07/2025 19:47

@IcedPurple - I agree also about stepping back from an income stream. If half the stories about their outgoings are true , why wouldn't you do ShopMy , which must re really low effort and think , Oh that'll pay the property tax or the mortgage or the gardeners, or H's RAVEC case expenses - whatever. It could be because she's bored as you say , or she does have another income stream , now or on the horizon , it might be her name isn't pulling as many purchases as one might think. I just don't know , but she doesn't seem to me to be an "enough money" sort of person. But that tbf is an impression I've gained - she wants to be a billionaire etc.

It's not hate. It's Dragon's Den-like brutal critique of a shit product.
