Your choice for Head of State?

JoyousGreyOrca · 10/03/2025 01:26

If you could have anyone in the world as the UK Head of State who would you choose?

I would choose Michelle Obama. Incredibly bright, passionate and well connected woman who is used to talking to world leaders.

You want an American as head of the UK? how would that work? unless there is something about her I have not realised, was she born here?

RichPetunia · 10/03/2025 06:08

I'd have JK Rowling because of her tenacity.

JoyousGreyOrca · 10/03/2025 15:33

@WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout That thread is very different. It is about how we might choose a Head of State, what would the process be. It is a serious thread.

This is just a light hearted thread about who our ideal Head of State would be, even if it is totally unrealistic.

@BlondiePortz It is a light hearted thread. Simply who is your dream Head of State.

IMissSparkling · 10/03/2025 15:37

Michelle Obama has repeatedly said she is not interested in head-of-stating, sorry OP.
You'll need someone else to run your dream version of the UK.

JoyousGreyOrca · 10/03/2025 15:43

Does no one know what light hearted means?

Fine Job Brand as our Head of State. Extremely intelligent, capable and could handle President Trump.

Not2identifying · 10/03/2025 15:53

I would also vote for JK Rowling.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 10/03/2025 16:05

Fair enough but it didn’t say lighthearted unless I missed it perfectly possible

PrincessAnne5Eva · 10/03/2025 16:10

I think it's obvious who I'd pick. 😅

Maitri108 · 10/03/2025 16:31

Kathy Burke - she'd sort out Trump sharpish.

CutiePieMiMo90 · 10/03/2025 16:34

Princess Anne

Kathy Burke would be an interesting and entertaining choice

If we're being lighthearted then I agree that Michelle would be great, and JK as well. Both highly intelligent, cultured, poised and strong women. I'm a constitutional monarchist (Scandinavian style preferred) so am happy for the monarchy to continue, though.

Many people have said over the years that Princess Anne would have made a better heir to the throne and I know what they mean. I have a lot of respect for KC and I think he is a decent man, but Princess Anne is tougher (she's her father's daughter) and more able to take the flak and the pressure which I think affects the more sensitive Charles.

I like Kathy Burke and Jo Brand, but I really don't think they'd manage the gravitas that's needed for the role. Having a slanging match with Trump, fun though it might be, wouldn't really be the right approach for a HoS!

@JoyousGreyOrca sorry but that makes no sense at all. And I love Michelle Obama. Head of a country should be someone that understands said country and the only way to do that is being living in that country.

JoyousGreyOrca · 10/03/2025 16:40

Jo Brand would not have a slanging match with Trump. She is highly intelligent and used to manage a London mental health A and E. She was used to handling patients who were emotionally volatile and who had delusions. She would be brilliant at handling Trump.

Michelle Obama though could fulfil the role well whilst wearing amazingly stylish clothes and looking elegant and aspirational. Would also be lovely to have a black Head of State.

Boris Johnson.

Yes, I’m actually serious. President Boris. He would be brilliant at all the glad-handing & bonhomie & making entertaining speeches & boosterism stuff. He would throw good parties, too…

As long as he was a purely ceremonial figure who didn’t have any actual power, of course.

Do you mean Jo Brand the comedian?
The pro trans nutter who advocates for self id and believes people can change sex?
No thank you

DaffyDuk · 10/03/2025 16:47

David Attenborough. I adore him. I would love him to have real power, and shake things up.

I can not stand the man. But you may be right. He would say racist things of course, but so did Prince Philip and he was still loved.

Prince Philip was loved ? By who ( you're not allowed to include his own family)
Personally I think he was an arrogant racist and condescending twat who unfortunately was surrounded by sychophants who encouraged him in his belief that he was a clever wit .

JoyousGreyOrca · 10/03/2025 16:56

@Mightymoog I do not really want this thread to be derailed by this. But plenty on this board and elsewhere said they were really sad when Philip died.

really?
People other than his family were sad?
How bizarre.
I do find that quite hard to believe

TheAmusedQuail · 10/03/2025 17:06

I second Michelle Obama.

Jeremy Corbyn (up the revolution!).
