Your choice for Head of State?

JoyousGreyOrca · 10/03/2025 01:26

If you could have anyone in the world as the UK Head of State who would you choose?

I would choose Michelle Obama. Incredibly bright, passionate and well connected woman who is used to talking to world leaders.

I can not stand the man. But you may be right. He would say racist things of course, but so did Prince Philip and he was still loved.

Boris Johnson!? Terrible idea. The head of state has access to all sorts of confidential information. Boris can't be trusted.

JillAndJenTheFlowerpotMen · 10/03/2025 17:07

King Charles III

Cynic17 · 10/03/2025 17:07

I think The King is doing an excellent job, so I'll keep him, thanks.

Do you mean Jo Brand the comedian?
The pro trans nutter who advocates for self id and believes people can change sex?
No thank you

Actually, I vote for Jo Brand too.

Prince Philip was loved ? By who ( you're not allowed to include his own family)
Personally I think he was an arrogant racist and condescending twat who unfortunately was surrounded by sychophants who encouraged him in his belief that he was a clever wit .

All he did was walk round with his hands behind his back following the Queen. Never did a day’s work in his life. Came out with some horrifically embarrassing quips.

LlynTegid · 10/03/2025 17:09

If the monarchy ended, I would want someone other than a politician, and keep a largely ceremonial head of state. Not someone who has held political office.

Cattery · 10/03/2025 17:09

Shane Ritchie. At least he’s a laugh

MotherOfCatBoy · 10/03/2025 17:11

Hugh Grant!

Eyesopenwideawake · 10/03/2025 17:11

Michael Palin. I can't believe anyone could possibly say no to him.

could you specify what he has personally achieved that means he's doing a good job?

valder · 10/03/2025 17:13

Shallow enough pool of potentials so far.... I'm thinking though, I'm thinking and honestly no one immediately springs to mind with the nous, gravitas, presence and diplomacy required.

But I'll get there if someone else doesn't before me!

3peassuit · 10/03/2025 17:15

Joanna Lumley or Lenny Henry.

SiobhanSharpe · 10/03/2025 17:16

Yes, I've always thought Sir David Attenborough or someone of that ilk perhaps a tad younger would be the kind of person who might make a good head of state.
Other broadcasters could be Esther Rantzen, Bear Grylls or Ben Fogle. Or how about Lady Lawrence, or a theatrical knight/dame, an author such as JK rowling, an elder statesman or woman, (John Major perhaps or Gordon Brown but not Tony Blair or Lynn Truss) a retired sportsman or woman well known for charitable works or interest in non-party politics. Sharron Davies, Gary Lineker?
Clearly, any of these people could be considered Marmite so we'd need a good and broad range of candidates to choose from.
I can't wait to start voting!

valder · 10/03/2025 17:20

Still stumped. Thinking of who would be good from the -

Arts
Literature
Theatre
Philanthropy
Charitable organisations
Medicine
Science
Education
Military
Unsung heroes

I'm sure it will come to me. And there are far more categories than the above, if anyone wants to add to them.

I take it we're looking for someone who has actually achieved something as opposed to the current set up?

I would think so yes. But not necessarily a "celebrity" PLEASE....

The current set up just obliges the HOS to be the first born of the King/Queen. We really do need more than that on their CV!

He has personally achieved being good at being a head of state. He is good at small talk, has an excellent tailor and doesn’t do anything embarrassing. You can’t say that about many well known people.

that's not actually achieving anything.

You say 3 things.
He can chat ( as can 99% of people; especially self confident wealthy people)
he has a good tailor ( not really his achievement, is it?)
he doesn't do anything embarassing ( well he looked a tit when he had a massive strop about a pen)

I fail to see how that makes him a good HOS
could you list a few things he has personally achieved please

JoyousGreyOrca · 10/03/2025 17:44

Dolly Parton would be an amazing Head of State. She would dress up, is very intelligent, and very philanthropic. She has done amazing work to try and get young children reading.

yeah, Dolly parton appears to be fabulous.
Did I read that her husband of something like 63 years died recently?
She's given away millions upon millions of her own wealth ( you hear that current royal parasites?)

Mochudubh · 10/03/2025 17:46

Baroness Floella Benjamin

I can't believe 31% of people voted for her to get her Food Hell on Saturday Kitchen. What have they got against lovely Floella?

valder · 10/03/2025 17:47

Slight derail, but I read somewhere recently that KC3 has just bought the house next door to his wife's at Ray Mill, so as to prevent her from having to put up with the original plan a developer had of turning it into a wedding venue. Apparently he bought it from his own personal fortune, and it cost around 3.5 million. That's nice.

Do they live together at all, not that it matters, just wondered.

I don't think they live together.
Shame he can't shell out some of his own money to build soem affordable housing etc.
Greedy twat

Who loved Philip? No-one I know.

A friend of ours met him many times and always said he was snappy, impatient and rude.

I’d like JKR as a head of state. Or Graham Norton, he seems nice.

Q2C4 · 10/03/2025 17:56

Do they have to be currently alive or are we allowed to pick people from throughout the ages? If so I'll go for Oscar Wilde.
