What's the deal with Andrew and Fergie?

Does anyone know? Are they a couple, or just good friends? I know they live next to each other. Doesn't Fergie have the Queen's Corgies?

They live in the same house.

i think it’s pretty accepted that they’ve been a couple again for many years.

Maddy70 · 27/02/2024 14:28

They only got divorced on paper and for the establishment they are still happily married really

Vespanest · 27/02/2024 14:30

I do know some, repeat some over 60s who are just comfortable being around each other with no need for anything else. For me the biggest question is why, in regards to Fergie, I can see what Andrew gets out of it but not Fergie.

TigerOnTour · 27/02/2024 14:31

@Maddy70 why did they pretend to get divorced then?

They did get divorced

They did get officially divorced. There was the fergie scandal ...
They were seen to do the right thing

Aposterhasnoname · 27/02/2024 14:33

They didn’t pretend to get divorced, they did get divorced. Andrew was working away all the time and Fergie was cheating. They stayed friends for the sake of the kids and over time realised they still love each other. Not really so hard to understand.

Why don't you Google it?

TigerOnTour · 27/02/2024 14:34

@CarrotOfPeace but Maddy said they only got divorced on paper but remained together. Why would they do that? Why would the establishment want them divorced? Surely it makes them look bad. Surely much more likely that they fell out, divorced and then reconciled later?

TigerOnTour · 27/02/2024 14:35

Oh I see, that makes more sense.

From what I've read, they have separate wings of the 30-room Royal Lodge at Windsor, so whether they're actually a couple, FWB or just friends/companions I don't know. It certainly seems to suit them both. She can't manage her money so it's a free place to live and he's alienated almost everyone with his disgraceful behaviour, so presumably he's glad of the company?

SomethingUniqueThisTime · 27/02/2024 17:08

Ironically I think Fergie was seen as a bit of an embarrassment to the RF, and there were stories in the media about her infidelity. After all the kerfuffle over Anne’s divorce, and Charles & Diane’s marriage in the media they were encouraged to get divorced without dragging it all out.

Their divorce was pretty amicable and they remained living together/close for the children’s sake. Now it is just convenient I suspect and they need to live somewhere in the style they are both accustomed. Without the desire to marry anyone else it seems a simple solution.

LipstickLil · 27/02/2024 17:47

At the time, there was nothing 'ironic' about it. The 'toe sucking scandal', where she was photographed on a sun lounger with her 'financial advisor' kissing her feet was a massive embarrassment for the RF and Prince Philip apparently refused to have her in the same house as him afterwards. I suspect that in the same way that Charles was instructed to either propose to Diana or stop the endless speculation about their relationship, Andrew was instructed to divorce his wayward wife before she brought further disrepute on the RF.

I think from his smug grinning face today Andrew thinks if he’s shown with Fergie all the plebs will forget he likes them underage.

She was basically kicked out of Balmoral when the pics hit the papers

Yes and Prince Philip never budged on his opinion of her until he died! She wasn't ever invited to anything where he'd be present - hence the olive branch of an invitation to Sandringham for Christmas being issued after Charles took the throne.

I used the word ‘ironically’, as it now seems like nothing in comparison with Andrew’s perchance for underage girls.

Yeah, I think that is. Plus they always do support each other when one of them gets into a scandal. They also share DC and DGC.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 27/02/2024 19:22

I think they’ll get married again.

If nothing else it will mean that Fergie’s will can be sealed like other royal wills and we will never know how much money they’ve ended up with personally.

Cynical I know, but it occurred to me recently and I can really see it happening.

17 isn’t underage.

Wasntmeanttobelikethis · 28/02/2024 11:35

I think that Fergie is a good cover for Andy; he probably hopes( or his PR team has told him) that she will remind us plebs that he was once thought of as a reasonable dad and husband
And she cannot believe her luck that she is back in the Royal fold
i found that film of them all walking yesterday very depressing; can’t explain why; just felt like the future of the RF is not looking good: Mike Tindall, Fergie and Andrew…… stardust definitely disappeared
i wish they would both just disappear
Also, I thought the alleged truth about Andy’s parentage was going to come out after the Queen died?

I think it was in the USA

KezzabellaB · 28/02/2024 11:45

The fact that Sarah has appeared twice with the RF recently brings to mind when Camilla started appearing with Charles initially. If I recall correctly, there were one or two appearances as a couple, then he hosted her birthday bash and not long after they announced their engagement. Maybe Andrew and Sarah will do something similar?
FWIW I like Sarah Ferguson. I'm old enough to remember the 'rivalry' the press cooked up between her and Diana, constantly comparing them, and Sarah always copped the bad press, even before the toe sucking etc. I think she comes across as a people pleaser who just wants to be liked, and it's easy to make mistakes when you have that kind of personality. She's not perfect but who is?
Prince Philip didn't like her, but it's important to remember the Queen did and I think she was a canny old bird who could tell a good egg from a bad egg.

The relevance of her having the corgis?

@iwiporangi just wondering how they're doing really.
