I'd be surprised, its a 2 hour drive from Windsor compared to a 1 hour drive to Marlborough and ten minutes to Eton.

Spareheir · 14/02/2024 18:31

Personally I thought they would have sent him to Wellington College..
Marlborough & Eton were too obvious & I didn't think W&K would send the kids to either..
Surprised at Oundle too.

Isn't it two years away? we might be waiting a while to find out.

wordler · 14/02/2024 21:02

As far as I can tell it's one report with one anonymous source repeated and copied rather than multiple reports.

To me this reads more like somone in Oundle admissions office looking for an easy boost to numbers and interest in the school.

Wellington is basically weekly boarding now. Oundle is credible because like Marlborough is one of few co-Ed BS where students need to stay in at weekends bar exeats. Far more controllable environment.

easternenergizer · 14/02/2024 22:53

Honestly thought it was two years away, but I guess they could send him to Oundle from 11.

Not wholly surprised if they were to choose it and would probably be a good choise because it is very understated. Welly is kind of bling/flashy which apparently Kate doesn't like and Oundle is basically the same school as Marlborough but in Northamptonshire, just a bit further away.

Must say Marlborough is flashy sure, and some of my friends from it are a bit 'affected', but I don't think any of these schools have that different a profile of student anymore, they all cost the same basically.

Hope wherever she chooses he's happy and they can get back to reporting actual news that is important for people to know LOL.

Surely not Wellington. I think they are too "proper" for Wellington.

Justfinking · 15/02/2024 02:50

I think there might be a waiting list, so I hope they've put him on there to get a spot. He might miss out 😅

Serenster · 15/02/2024 09:54

I would like this story to be true simply because it would be fun to see the foreign press try to work out how to pronounce Oundle. (i haven’t a clue myself 🤣)

OSU · 15/02/2024 10:09

Oww n dull

Hth 😁

stillavid · 15/02/2024 10:39

I would be surprised at Oundle due to distance and the fact it takes day pupils. If they want boarding then I would think everyone weekly or full boarding would be better.

If they want him at a school with day pupils why not choose one closer to them where he could be a day pupil/flexi board etc.

Also it doesn't mention they have been seen looking around Oundle but we know they have looked around Eton and Marlborough.

Oundle is a lovely school though and am sure would be a contender if closer.

MrsKwazi · 15/02/2024 10:41

Oundle is a great school. I’m considering it for my daughter, so really hope they choose another school!

SecondUsername4me · 15/02/2024 10:55

Wasn't the whole point of the move to Windsor to give them easy access to Marlbrough and Eton? So it's most likely to be one of these two.

SecondUsername4me · 15/02/2024 10:56

I suppose if they wanted Oundle they could relocate back to Sandringham

Mumsnut · 15/02/2024 10:59

I reckon Charterhouse is more likely. 45 min from Windsor, co-ed, kids go home at weekends if they want.

MaggieFS · 15/02/2024 11:02

Oundle is spread all over the town. Probably not a deal breaker but surely a campus school would be much easier?
(But then again I guess Eton is too?)

EmmaGrundyForPM · 15/02/2024 11:28

Presumably they want co-ed so all the dc can attend. In which case I feel really sorry for Charlotte as the girls' uniform at Oundle is horrific.

easternenergizer · 15/02/2024 12:03

Oh I loved the Culottes at Oundle. I thought they were different and cool.

Prizefighter · 15/02/2024 12:08

Oundle is a much better choice than Marlborough. More low key and nicer vibe.

Yeah, totally agree. Same sort of student and opportunities but less affected by their parents’ money.

Plus knowing Oundle, I’m confident in saying that I’m sure the Middleton effect won’t happen with it. My friends never cared about each others’ backgrounds and Oundle don’t take in parents who are their for the “label”

Coronateachingagain · 15/02/2024 13:38

Ok lots of speculation

Co-Ed options...

No mention of Brighton College (probably too academic)
Or Sevenoaks (IB and other side of town)
Wellington agree too trendy
Marlborough is an obvious option
Oundle out of the way but honorable option and in some ways good if it is out of the way

Boys only
Westminster, Eton, Tonbridge - he would really need to pass the exam
Dulwich would need to pass the exam and too many day pupils

Caterham, not familiar
Kings Canterbury - why not, nice school and near one of their places
Rugby? Not posh enough?

2nd tier posh boarding boys:Harrow, Radley...

So not a lot of choice for Co Ed boarding really (for them high profile posh ppl at least!)

(End of speculative post)

We've obviously got different tastes! 🤣🤣

Luckily or unluckily for Charlotte, I'm sure her parents choice of school won't be swayed by the uniform.

Haha true - they're def unique 😆

EdithWeston · 15/02/2024 18:33

I think it'll be between the obvious choice of one of his parents old schools, depending on which he likes and which he's best suited to (including meeting the academic entrance level)

And I don't think they'll announce which one until well after applications have closed - and probably not until CE results are out
