Part 2 of a nice, unproblematic thread to discuss some of the fab outfits from the Duchess of Sussex, and some of the many great causes she (and Harry) and Archewell supports.

Sorry! If it helps, she looks familiar 🤷🏻‍♀️

I...erm...expect your great-grandmother told you about her. Umm...just like mine did 🤥

Nah - I am old, but my knowledge of some things goes back quite far as my mother was nearly 40 when I was born and my father was in his mid-50s so I picked up a lot from them.
I've got quite a good repertoire of music hall songs Grin

That sounds like my husband! He’s in his 50s but his parents had him in their mid to late 40s so he grew up with George Formby and can sing all his songs word for word ( and other wartime songs - there’s hundreds of them.. trust me) whereas I don’t like that genre at all ! I’m young and cool and was a child bride....

Yes, La Marschallin, that’s exactly it. 🤣

(My husband, who loves silent movies, has insisted on showing our children the movies of Abbot and Costello and Harold Lloyd etc. Much to my surprise, they adored them. Slapstick doesn’t date!)

Roussette · 13/10/2023 17:49

It's almost cartoonish, slapstick isn't it? So I get that!

Serenster · 13/10/2023 18:11

Totally, Roussette. I reckon you could show a group of primary school pupils “Safety Last” instead of a Disney movie and they would all be completely engaged in it, howling with laughter, cowering in fright and cheering at the end. 😀

Oh, I do trust you - I'd be a genius if my mind wasn't clogged up with that sort of stuff...

🎶Honeymooning couples too
You should see them bill and coo,
You'd be surprised at the things they do
When I'm cleaning windows!🎵
Turned out nice again heh heh!

Huh! Whippersnapper! Wink

Roussette · 13/10/2023 18:44

LaM as soon as you said George Formby I strummed an imaginary banjo and crooned about cleaning windows 😂

Fortunately (or unfortunately) I know all the old stuff (big gap between us and older siblings) and older parents. There is not a Musical I can't sing along to! and I do
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
Annie Get your Gun
Oklahoma
The King and I

Heck, this is sad!

I do try to get into it! He’s 10 years older than me so he gets New Kids on The Block, 80s movie soundtracks and Chesney Hawkes 😆 ( we both have very questionable music taste Grin)

Daisyislazy · 13/10/2023 18:52

I love seven brides for seven brother but the King and I is my favourite, Yul Brynner was amazing " shall we dance"?

Daisyislazy · 13/10/2023 18:53

Dear god, chesney Hawkes, that's a blast from the past

Your putting it on your playlist right now aren’t you 😆😆😆😆

LaMarschallin · 13/10/2023 18:58

Daisyislazy

Yul Brynner was amazing " shall we dance"?

My claim to fame: I saw Yul Brynner in TKAI on stage in London when I was a teenager.
My mother, her friend and I waited for ages outside the stage door and got his autograph!
He was shorter than I expected (shorter than me and I'm 5'7") and was dressed all in black with a black stetson that I really want to believe was from The Magnificent Seven <starstruck>

Roussette · 13/10/2023 19:02

LaM I'm seriously impressed, that is one claim to fame! Love Yul.

I wish I could put my claim to fame here but it is sooooo identifiable because I've told everyone in real life Grin

My friend’s daughter met him somewhere abroad and said he was lovely .
Showing my age but I always liked his Dad , Chip, in the Tremeloes .

Have you or your husband ever seen the Brad Pitt film “Babylon” it’s about silent film actors who have to try and act in talking pictures, it’s a fictional film but the characters are based loosely on the lives of famous silent actors of the day, it’s a marmite film but my husband and I really enjoyed it

My husband can only play George songs otherwise I’d offer his services 😆

It’s brilliant, it’s based very loosely on fact and definitely worth a watch if you’re interested in that changeover period of cinema (which my hubby is) Margot Robbie is fantastic in it as is Brad!
