Part 2 of a nice, unproblematic thread to discuss some of the fab outfits from the Duchess of Sussex, and some of the many great causes she (and Harry) and Archewell supports.

Meghan has certainly inspired me to look for more boat neck tops/dresses. I find that for someone without much of a waist (my problem - not saying it's Meghan's, just that her clothes have highlighted that neckline) they help to broaden the shoulders, so I don't look too straight up-and-down.
I do think the white jacket has taken it slightly to extremes and I'm not sure if I could move my arms easily in it.
But it's waaaay out of my price range, so it's problem I'll never have, sadly.

Roussette · 13/10/2023 09:16

Surely we can all agree to disagree to disagree on something as subjective as an outfit?

Course we can!
But when her 'hanging onto a title' is shoehorned into a conversation about an outfit, it does get tedious

I have already told you why I said that ! In case you missed it , it was because a poster had claimed that Meghan had “ stuck the middle finger up at the RF”

If you find it tedious, scroll past as I now do when you start on about the 30(?) articles in 24 hours about Meghan or the umpteen books written by SF .

OK ?

Obviously people aren't complaining about someone not liking an outfit. It's how the criticism is given. Such as laughing at her looking naked... or like on Kates thread where someone has said Meghan is too thin now. I would never go on a thread about Kate and discuss her figure, or discuss it here on Meghan's. I think thats the kind of thing that is objectionable, along with completely unrelated things being mentioned which is derailing and if it continued with posters responding, it would derail the thread focus entirely and MNHQ have many times asked people not to do that.

LadyMuckingabout · 13/10/2023 09:38

@AuntieStella I too am confused about the ostrich boots. I had a Google and they appear to be some sort of cowboy thing, like in Dallas (the show). I’m not sure a real working farmer would wear these!

LadyMuckingabout · 13/10/2023 09:42

Regarding Meghan’s outfit - I didn’t much like it as it looked like a wedding “dress” for a second marriage. The top looked a bit uncomfortable and the middle too busy.

The similar dress she wore a few years ago (with the Queen?) was lovely and she should have got that out of the back of the wardrobe!

secretpath · 13/10/2023 09:44

Coming into this conversation a bit late, probably, but I really liked Meghan's look at the parenting event in NY. The colour, dramatic eye make-up and off shoulder style really suits her. I did think that it was a shame the colour of the couch so closely matched her dress, and I did think she was overdressed for the occasion, but she looked lovely.

MissElinorDashwood · 13/10/2023 10:04

it’s support for a woman who has experienced the most severe levels of misogynistic, and often racist, abuse by the media and on social media.

I share the same view. I’m not a fan. I’m able to remain objective and give fair criticism when necessary.

It is really in the spirit of MN to say that you can only participate in a thread if you toe the party line (for want of a better phrase) ?

Maybe you can also start this discussion in the Kate thread?

There are certain posters who are infamous for their very strong critical views on William, Kate & Charles. There have been some dreadful things written about them too. Does it work both ways?

I haven’t seen that on the Kate thread.

It almost feels like a safe space to come and post something nice about what she's wearing or what she's done, without getting continually jumped on. Because it is so tiring.

100%.

I don't get it, the only negatives on this thread were about some people loving her clothes, others not loving them. Maybe I have missed some other comments,

Not true. I can’t be bothered to go through the whole thread, but I’ll give you two examples that I remember: someone trying to derail by talking about NDAs and another poster asking if it’s right that Meghan and Harry should even be doing work like this.

but it appeared to really offended one of the posters who seemed to take it quite personally.

I was neither offended nor did I take it personally. I merely pointed out that the hertz meme originated from single purpose hate accounts on Twitter. I think context is important.

I think that some people politely gave their own personal balanced views of an outfit and one poster found this very objectionable because it didn’t align with their requirement that every comment on the thread seemingly needs to be positive.

If only! If this was the case, I wouldn’t have an issue. I welcome polite and balanced views. The Kate thread is a good example of polite and balanced (the last time I checked). This thread isn’t. This comment is a little patronising.

Hopefully we can all stick to the topic now.

If you and pinkmont are genuinely just commenting about clothes on this thread gloriously, and that is as far as it goes, then of course you are free to comment as you wish. And no one poster or group of posters is allowed to police threads or dictate how people comment.

However, it’s a little disingenuous to
ignore the fact that there aren’t many more reasons behind why people comment so negatively about MM all the time on these threads and elsewhere. The right wing press have an agenda. Their gullible readers have an agenda. Imho, one of the most powerful family’s in the land has an agenda. And sorry to say, but racists have an agenda too.

Given that that is the state of play, I think it’s ok for supporters of MM on here to wish there was one “safe” place where posters could comment positively about her, whether or not that is a reality. Especially given that she is a mother of young children, precisely the demographic that this site was set up to support.

pinkmont · 13/10/2023 10:27

Well, thats all I have commented on and it provoked a very visceral reaction.

Anyway, I don't want to drag this on, but I don't think it is reasonable to tell some posters they can only comment about X on a thread if something other than X is being discussed by other posters.

Well, I'm afraid I did that. Not because it was Meghan but, once pointed out how it did look like she was popping up behind the chair because her outfit blended in so well, I found it impossible not to see it. And I thought it was amusing. Maybe others will think that's childish, but that's the worst it was.
It would have amused me who ever it was.

Yes that's totally fair enough. Equally, I hope you can understand, given the level of hate directed at MM on other threads, why it's a bit of a touchy subject for some?

I agree @LaMarschallin. I had seen that photo before I saw that you had commented on it on here and I thought the exact same thing. It’s an unfortunate photo and it would have been just as unfortunate no matter who
it was. I didn’t think it was a swipe at Meghan personally. There is definitely some overthinking going on.

I make total sense. We were discussing the endless criticism of Meghan, and this being a more positive thread. And your post typifies the criticism and you posted two examples of it.

So... in the words of M'Lud.... I rest my case.

pinkmont · 13/10/2023 11:52

@LaMarschallin if that had been a photo of myself I would have thought it was hysterically funny, as would my family, it would be added to the family archives of funny family photos. Meghan and Harry may even be having a great laugh about it themselves for all we know..

Yes, I'm not worried about the cream on cream. My DCs always manage to capture dreadful pics like this of me... a famous one when I'm posing in some gardens at a restaurant, and just above and behind me was a massive urn of fruit. I looked like a very wonky odd version of Carmen Miranda!

I know that feeling. I have to supply a photo of myself for dc communication book, as my photographer son says, I always pull that face,
its my face lol

😆That’s made me chuckle! I’m sure you look equally as beautiful with fruit on your head and a spangly bra like she did! GrinAlthough to be fair no one wears fruit as good as Carmen.. I wonder if Meghan or Catherine would be able pull that look off ??

Roussette · 13/10/2023 15:27

I looked beyond ridiculous I promise you!

MissElinorDashwood · 13/10/2023 16:56

looks up Carmen Miranda
