To think sexism is behind the hatred of Meghan

Because Kate is loved for just conforming with a smile and doing what's expected of her, where as Meghan is a strong woman and Harry is expected to man up and put her in her place, which he hasn't contributing to hatred of Harry.
I'm not saying there's not more to it and things have certainly escalated but deeply rooted I feel sexism has played a part.

It's misogynoir behind the hatred

SoupDragon · 09/01/2023 13:48

🙄

Edinburghmusing · 09/01/2023 13:50

Definitely there are elements of that in the media treatment

but I think it’s complicated by the fact that she seems to me to be a self absorbed and annoying person

Choconut · 09/01/2023 13:54

If you marry into the RF there has to be a degree of conformity, just like there is with most jobs.

rwalker · 09/01/2023 13:56

No

Palomabalom · 09/01/2023 13:56

I think it’s more to do with her annoying attitude and personality than anything more serious such as race or sex

Laiste · 09/01/2023 13:57

I guess there are many different reasons for the hatred of Meghan.

If you don't know her personally you have only got that impression due to the combination of sexism and racism that has been sprouted in the press.

Why does there? Sod that!

daemonologie · 09/01/2023 13:59

Bit harsh on Kate.

Kate is likeable. She's dignified.

Meghan less so.

LubaLuca · 09/01/2023 14:01

The Queen was a strong woman and she was very popular. I don't think anyone wanted someone to put her in her place.

They don't have to conform they can go off and do their own thing. What they shouldn't expect is to come in and change the roles. Sadly for them Harry (& Megan) would slot in as minor royals, having some duties but not being at the centre. I don't think that suits them I gjonk Harry feels he should be at least as important as William.

He could have carved out a good role for himself with his games and mental health work. His present outbursts just pish hom futher away.

Laiste · 09/01/2023 14:03

I mean - think of any TV/film personality you don't like. What's the reason? It's hard to nail this sort of thing down to anything specific sometimes.

Personally I can't stand Susannah Reid or Meghan. Random - but there it is.

Doliveira · 09/01/2023 14:05

No, Meghan is fake, false, yucky. Kate seems genuinely nice, Camilla also.

Butchyrestingface · 09/01/2023 14:07

I think there probably IS an element of sexism, racism, anti-Americanism and even anti-thespianism thrown into the mix.

But there is at LEAST (being very generous here) a 70% dollop of hoisting by one's own petard on both their parts. Probably currently around the 90% mark in Harry's case.

"misogynoir" sounds like a new genre! "Hard boiled detective hunts hated femme fatale" ...

You don't know her personally so aren't really qualified to comment on her attitude or personality. You have succumbed to the bullshit the British press spout.
It has everything to do with racism and sexism. The hatred she has had to face is akin with bloody Hitler. It's a sad reflection on our country. Think for yourselves don't be coerced by the newspapers and social media.

If you listen and read the work of Black women it's fairly common

It is the individual not the characteristics that are disliked.

DewinDwl · 09/01/2023 14:15

Yes I agree OP. Some very dated attitudes are coming through... Meghan and Harry seem very happy together yet there are so many comments, snide or open, about her wearing the trousers, with the assumption that is a bad thing. See also all the posts on MN about the need to put MM in her place. Also negative comments about the fact she married in white while being divorced FFS.

We are all entitled to our opinions but for me it's obvious that sexism, classism, snobbery, racism and anti-American stereotyping are part of the toxic mixture of anti MM hatred.

Justcallmebebes · 09/01/2023 14:17

I think it maybe comes in the top 20 of the reasons to dislike her

She's dignified equals she's muzzled.

UWhatNow · 09/01/2023 14:18

Kate, until recently, did all that dutifully under a female monarch.

But debating any possible sexism within that role does not negate the fact that Meghan was here for 5 mins, took a tax-payer funded extravaganza of a wedding to invite her Hollywood pals and I’ll take a royal title thank you very much, bullied the staff, talked disrespectfully to a SIL she barely knew, realised the houses she was offered weren’t palatial enough, the muggles weren’t ‘grateful’ enough for her ‘sacrifice’ then decided she hated us all and fucked off.

Then publicly lied about it all. With sad puppy dog eyes.

So no, it isn’t sexism. Or racism. It’s a natural antipathy toward narcissistic behaviours.

Very much agree with this OP.

Lots of people I've spoken to recently agree with this line of thought.
