Do we all think that's funny? Or should Harry have just sucked up having his parentage being questioned his entire life and not let him bother him?

No I don't think it's funny. And what parents jokes about their child's parentage.

And it was probably the start of his mental health issues. Imagine growing up with not only the press making these statements, but your own father as well.

Move22 · 08/01/2023 13:19

But is it even true that C said that 🤷‍♀️

WhereIsMyRollingPin · 08/01/2023 13:19

Why haven't they all just done DNA tests?

crumpet · 08/01/2023 13:19

What should Charles have done? The issue regularly cropped up in the media. Joking about it is the best way to deal with it, rather than ignoring it or hand wringing over such blatant bollocks.

You don’t really think Charles was suggesting it might be true, surely?

kirinm · 08/01/2023 13:22

@crumpet Hmmm, well perhaps not joking about it to his fucking son?

Harrysfrostbittentodger · 08/01/2023 13:22

This is what happens when people air their dirty laundry in public (I’m looking at you Diana & Charles).

And now Harry is doing the same thing. So continues the circle of life.

kirinm · 08/01/2023 13:23

And isn't it the point? That the papers ran this story / still do / posters on here question it? Why shouldn't Harry be pissed off about it? Of all people, perhaps his Dad should not laugh about it.

The people on these threads are such hypocrites. If we were talking about anyone else, you wouldn't condone this sort of "joke" at the expense of the child.

I think the wider context is the key.

From the extract I read it was directly after Chalres had visited a home in which one of the residents claimed to be the Prince of Wales. Charles had joked ith him that he couldn't be, because Chales was the PoW but the resident wouldn't have it and that Charles was the imposter.

It was regarding this event, that Charles joked he might not be Harry and William's dad (and that the resident might be).

But Harry also said that Charles never believed he wasn't his son.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 08/01/2023 13:25

We sometimes joke with our DS and ask him or each other if he's really ours, when he does certain things that are very different from us; but it's very clear that it's all a joke and there is no remotest possibility whatsoever that anybody else could be his parents apart from us.

When both you and the child's other parent lived for many years with a backdrop of high-profile affairs and infidelities, I would say it's quite an 'unwise' (and very cruel) joke to make, to say the least.

Tomselleckhaskindeyes · 08/01/2023 13:26

My parents used to joke that i was the milkman's baby. I thought it was funny growing up.

nancydroo · 08/01/2023 13:27

It's a joke. KC should have known that H can't take a joke so shouldn't have said it. H looks very much like KC. He's really had to scrape the barrel for this book

ACynicalDad · 08/01/2023 13:28

Can you imagine if they did a DNA test now and found out he wasn’t Charlie’s son, could be a boss move from the palace.

Sugarfree23 · 08/01/2023 13:28

WhereIsMyRollingPin · 08/01/2023 13:19

Why haven't they all just done DNA tests?

Because either Charles really doesn't think there is any chance he isn't the Dad. He how often him and Di were DTD.

Or he loves Harry and doesn't want him not to be his DS.

kirinm · 08/01/2023 13:29

Nah, bollocks. Joking with your own kid about who their parent is is one thing. Joking about it when the public and press have claimed you aren't, is something quite different.

I think we need to be care as alot has been translated by the media and taken out of context. Unless we read the book itself we will not know how it was meant.

Harrysfrostbittentodger · 08/01/2023 13:30

Why not joke about it? It’s clear to everyone that he is Harry’s father. It’s absurd to say other wise. Charles has never doubted that Harry is his son. Why not join in the absurdness and make fun of it? Joking about these things takes the power away from those who will try and use it against you.

Side note: My parents used to say i was adopted and they had found me in the dustbin 🤣 Still have no idea why they decided on that narrative but it still makes me laugh

This.
Its about context.

What he actually said was (not verbatim, but..) ‘Maybe I’m not your father, maybe your real father is in broadmoor’

He was talking about the man in Broadmoor hospital, who was convinced he was the real Prince of Wales.

It was an amusing anecdote, nothing to do with James Hewitt. Harry said KC liked to end things ‘philosophically’ so sounds like he was laughing saying maybe he’s right, and I’m the imposter

Charles likely hadn’t even considered the ‘connection’, presumably because I’m his mums there wasn’t one, and the rumours are bollocks.

kirinm · 08/01/2023 13:32

Harry evidently didn't find it funny.

The amount of mental gymnastics you guys will do when it suits your narrative is amazing. All about context except when you're talking about the taliban comment or the drug taking comment or the lip gloss comment or the fight comment.

He wasn’t joking about James Hewitt though.
Have you read the full excerpt?

Is it?

Do find a post where I've said that...

I'm no more responsible for what other people say than you are.

Well, it works the other way around as well, surely?

If you’re willing the accept the 25 kills was out of context, why wouldn’t you apply the same logic to this?

asblindasabat · 08/01/2023 13:34

I honestly don’t see what’s wrong with making a lighthearted joke about it. I probably would do the same too if I had split from my DCs father around the time any of them was born.

But then I do have a silly sense of humour. And my nearest and dearest know this so I think they’d find it funny and they’d know it wasn’t true.
