Do we all think that's funny? Or should Harry have just sucked up having his parentage being questioned his entire life and not let him bother him?

If he said it, then I don’t think it’s that big a deal. Confront it head on in “we know it’s ridiculous don’t we?” kind of way. My child’s father is an alcoholic. Sometimes we joke about it - me and my child, she’s a teen. What else should we do? Walk around with sombre faces and cry whenever he’s mentioned? Pragmatism is the best way.

As your not Harry it's not up to you to decide whether it's a bi big.deal.or not

How do you know that it was said in that context? It doesn't sound like it. Making a joke at a child's expense isn't the same thing as saying "we know between us that it's OK etc..."

kirinm · 08/01/2023 15:39

@rumship what are you referring to? This isn't a comment made to Diana.

I didn’t say he said it in any kind of way. I said if he did say it, then I don’t think it’s a big deal and then explained how I handle a similar painful situation in my own family. I don’t know how he said it and didn’t claim to. None of us do.

I think the wider context is the key.

From the extract I read it was directly after Chalres had visited a home in which one of the residents claimed to be the Prince of Wales. Charles had joked ith him that he couldn't be, because Chales was the PoW but the resident wouldn't have it and that Charles was the imposter.

It was regarding this event, that Charles joked he might not be Harry and William's dad (and that the resident might be).

If this is what happened then all the outrage is ridiculous.

IfOnlyTheyMeantIt · 08/01/2023 15:59

Fgs!!!!

I'm quite tall compared to my DM and DF. I've lost count of how many times they've 'wondered' if I was the milkman's.

It was a joke. Just as KC was joking.

Harry is scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Harry is blasting out anything at all that can be spun to rouse sympathy from the public.

Hedjwitch · 08/01/2023 16:03

I should imagine DNA tests were done years ago, given how easy it is to get a sample of hair or fingerprints etc.
And Harry is the image of Prince Philip

Whataretheodds · 08/01/2023 16:04

In what way did Charles joke about H's parentage? I mean, what did he actually say?

Yfory · 08/01/2023 16:06

DNA tests have been done <taps nose>

@rumship what are you referring to? This isn't a comment made to Diana.

He wrote how the now King told his mother Princess Diana on the day of his birth: “Wonderful! Now you’ve given me an heir and a spare."

🙄

AgathaX · 08/01/2023 16:15

As ScrapingTheBarrels said, this has been taken out of context.

kirinm · 08/01/2023 16:46

@rumship that has literally nothing to do with what I have posted about.

OP posts:
Snippedasababy · 08/01/2023 16:52

I think that given his parentage has been questioned his whole life, it’s a bad joke. Even in context. But also not that heinous it needs anything more than ‘I am sorry I didn’t mean to upset you’.

Had it had been a random comment or about James Hewitt it would have been an awful thing to say.
But the context is extremely different to what the Op suggests.

Whataretheodds · 08/01/2023 17:03

Thanks @PicturesOfDogs and @rumship for the links - I'm even more confused as nothing in either of these is a joke about Harry's parentage!

The story in the independent - the headline at least - is what I was referring to. I've no idea what rumshjp is banging on about.

@kirinm

Have you read the context in which it was actually said?

This gives a very different slant - people just seem to be reading the spin rather than the actual quotes.

tappinginto2023 · 08/01/2023 14:15

I agree with the comment above. The family are a car-crash.

I think the Windsors would have made Diana have an abortion if Harry wasn't Charles - they easily could have arranged tests while D was pregnant and then arranged an abortion, her consent or not. No way the 'spare' wouldn't have Windsor blood.

They couldn't have done - the research work on DNA fingerprinting was done in 1984, the year Harry was born. The earliest they could have tested him was as a toddler. I suspect the RF would have decided that blissful ignorance was better than taking the risk of finding out that Charles had been cuckolded, and the spare wasn't his.

Except, as just a few minutes old newborn baby, Harry would have no personal recollection of Charles saying this, and is just repeating a story that has been told to him, so I think that is a comment to take with a pinch of salt.

You're reporting this completely out of context surely you know that?

booboo82 · 08/01/2023 21:06

You all realise that there's a very good chance pretty much everything Harry has said is utter bullshit

StarbucksSmarterSister · 08/01/2023 21:12

My parents used to joke that i was the milkman's baby. I thought it was funny growing up.

But yould you have found it so funny if everyone where you lived gossiped that the milkman actually was your dad?
