Harry and Meghan 'are invited to appear on Buckingham Palace balcony at Queen's Platinum Jubilee'

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10729859/Prince-Harry-Meghan-Markle-invited-make-balcony-appearance-Jubilee.html

No source cited, so could just be made up news.

How do you all feel about this? Is it another refusing-to-fly-the-flag-at-half-mast-for-Diana misreading of the public mood? Does anybody actually care? And, if not, what does that signify?

I think they should be invited and I think they should respectfully decline - given their cited reasons for stepping back from the Royal Family.

TheSnowyOwl · 19/04/2022 08:26

Does anybody actually care?

I can’t find it in myself to care either way. I feel I’ve heard more than enough about the royal family as it is these days.

Easter holiday boredom has a lot to answer for since I’ve even joined this thread! Grin

Given that both sides involved in the media stories have good reasons for wanting various different angles out there, I’d take everything that’s written about this with a massive grain of salt, and just wait and see. Grin

(By which I mean, Meghan and Harry probably want the press to write they were invited, like they were allegedly invited to the Oscars and the Beckham/Peltz wedding, but also probably want to be able to say they there’s no way they’d join in with a celebration in that family. And the Queen and RF probably wants it written that they were perfectly happy to bury the hatchet/practice Christian forgiveness and invite all family members for the celebrations, particularly the mixed race ones. Good luck working out what the actual truth may be in that!).

Gilmorehill · 19/04/2022 10:45

I think the Telegraph originally reported. I’ve no idea how reliable it is for royal stories.

SickAndTiredAgain · 19/04/2022 10:48

I’m not sure there is much of a public mood either way about H&M standing on the balcony.
Inviting Andrew would be misreading the public mood, and I’ve no idea if he’ll be there.

Samcro · 19/04/2022 10:55

hope its true and it happens. mn would go into a frenzy.

TurquoiseSwirl · 19/04/2022 10:57

Yes to Megan and Harry, no to Andrew. But then I have now come to think the whole royal family should go and I applause Harry for leaving and being able to choose his own life and celebrity and Megan allowed to wear something that isn’t that horrible royal coat dress thing they all do

Antarcticant · 19/04/2022 10:59

What's unexpected about the Queen wanting her grandson and granddaughter-in-law to be part of her celebration? It would be more surprising if they hadn't been asked.

The whole Jubilee shenanigans are a colossal waste of money IMO but there's nothing wrong with this part of them.

starrynight21 · 19/04/2022 11:01

Given his fears about his safety, security etc, it would be a bit hypocritical to stand up there .

Chilledchablis1 · 19/04/2022 11:03

It would be wrong for H and M and A to appear on the balcony. All have embarrassed and upset the RF in different ways .

I think the Queen wants Andrew there, the optics would be terrible if he was invited and Harry and Meghan weren't. I imagine it tactics from both sides.

oldwhyno · 19/04/2022 13:48

I hope they're there. I hope they have to suck up some pretty awkward family moments too.

He needs the public association with the royal family to give them credibility in the US. Without the royal touch, they are nothing much.
Gilmorehill · 19/04/2022 14:36

Please please don’t let Andrew be there,

Literally all of this.
Chilledchablis1 · 19/04/2022 14:39

@ MrsTerryPratchett

Applaud him for leaving but cling on to their titles ?

Yes x 1000!
BitOutOfPractice · 19/04/2022 14:45

I literally could not give less of a shit tbh Grin

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/04/2022 14:55

Why not? Who cares? Everyone knows who they are and who they're related to, it's not a secret.

BeforeGodAndAllTheFish · 19/04/2022 14:58

Other family members who are not full time working royals get to stand on the balcony during things like this. They're not working royals but they're family and it is a family celebration as well as a public one.

If they can mend their family and become closer again then why would anyone want to stop that?

Just leave them alone. They haven't been accused of anytbung illegal and morally repugnant, unlike Andrew. They're family. If the family want to try and mend the wounds then leave them to it.

Mrsjayy · 19/04/2022 14:59

I wish they would stop trying to make themselves relevant for their Netflix special. I couldn't give two hoots if they are there to wave on a balcony , I really didn't care one way or other about them but they have become insufferable!

Well that goes for the whole boiling of them.

Why anyone gives a shit which over-priviledged twats wave at them I'll never know.

zafferana · 19/04/2022 15:25

I read that the Queen had invited them to appear and perhaps she feels that the worst thing that the RF can do at this point is given them further ammunition for their cries of victimisation - keep your friends close and your enemies closer?

Meghan and Harry have done huge damage to the RF and with Harry's biography coming out in the autumn I suspect they're going to do a lot more, so whatever the truth is, I really hope they decline. They'd be bloody hypocrites to appear smiling and waving after all they've said and done.

Hortensiateapot · 19/04/2022 15:31

I get the feeling with her Maj (since she’s incredibly old, probably quite poorly and an actual Queen) that she’s done with all the posturing, PR and optics and is just doing what she wants to do, whether that’s the announcement about camilla being consort or walking in to the service with Andrew. She presumably wants reconciliation with the Sussexes, to meet her great grandkids and doesn’t have time to play games. I wonder if Harry has also seen the bigger picture here too. It will be interesting how they decide to respond.
