I am not a royalist, but I thought today was really special. One thing that struck me though was the high heels. They could barely walk in them, especially on the cobbles. Isn't it a shame that women have to torture themselves like this.

As a feminist I hate to say this but thought they looked fab. Confused Beatrice looked great today actually. The only thing that I struggle with was whether Beatrice or Eugenie were wearing tights. Looked like they had bare legs. Would have worn black sheets like Sophie and Kate.

EdithWeston · 17/04/2021 20:12

Agree

The fashion has completely changed since Diana Princess of Wales wore flats or low heels, and I do not think it's a change for the better

Blessex · 17/04/2021 20:12

*sheers

ineedaholidaynow · 17/04/2021 20:14

They probably hadn’t banked on walking back to the castle though

MrsCaptainJakeBallard · 17/04/2021 20:17

I don't understand the "it's a shame women have to torture themselves like this" comment. Maybe they want to wear them and don't have to wear them?
I wear heels at occasions like this because it helps me feel more put together, more confident in myself and more comfortable in a dress etc. I don't see why it couldn't be the same for them and they didn't have to wear them!

MrsCaptainJakeBallard · 17/04/2021 20:18

Obviously my case I mean normal funerals as occasions like this not royal ones Grin

Blessex · 17/04/2021 20:26

@MrsCaptainJakeBallard me toooo. I love getting dressed up and wearing a high heel.

nildesparandum · 17/04/2021 20:27

I always wore high heels when I was young. Now my poor feet get tortured in them
I hate being old

Chunkymenrock · 17/04/2021 20:28

@blessex, just the one?Grin

Blessex · 17/04/2021 20:30

@Chunkymenrock Grin.

NewLynHill · 17/04/2021 20:31

They all looked like they were hobbling, other than Kate who probably has an advanced certificate in Walking In Very High Heels

DareIask · 17/04/2021 20:33

I thought it a shame Beatrice and Eugenie didn't follow the queens example and wear black tights. It's what she believes is appropriate and I would have respected that and worn them, irrespective of my own tastes

Blessex · 17/04/2021 20:34

@DareIask completely agree

DuchessOfSausage · 17/04/2021 20:35

Hasn't Beatrice got the most amazing eyes. She still looks stunning wearing a mask.

Princess Anne had low heels.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 17/04/2021 20:36

They were at their grandad’s funeral and people are judging their colour of tights?

picklemewalnuts · 17/04/2021 20:38

I noticed Camilla and Anne in manageable heels. The younger women all in stilettos. Eugenie (i think) really struggled with the cobbles and the others all moved into the road to avoid them.

I did think a less extreme heel might have been more suitable.

Blessex · 17/04/2021 20:38

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel yep because beatrice and eugenie looked like they weren’t wearing any. Yep @DuchessOfSausage she has lovely eyes.

Yes!!! They were clearly meant to get the cars back and Charles decided to walk so they all had to! I really felt for Beatrice having to navigate the cobbles in her lovely stilettos - probably chosen on the basis that they'd be getting a ride back! It reminded me of every bloody wedding where there's a walk from church to reception and you're cursing your shoes!
beginningoftheend · 17/04/2021 20:42

It is obviously completely personal choice but I think high heels just look a bit ridiculous. I'm used to seeing them so it doesn't stand out but when you think about them they are quite weird.

WaterBottle123 · 17/04/2021 20:47

Honestly Britain get a grip. What kind of vultures have we become filming and watching A FUNERAL? And then commenting on the fashion.

On the morning of your grandfather's funeral, you would ring your grandmother and ask if she was wearing tights and what colour?
DareIask · 17/04/2021 20:51

@youshallnotpass9 if I as a mere commoner know that it's considered the correct etiquette I'd expect the queens grand daughters to.

And Id expect them to have the food grace to respect it.

No phone call required.

Well I wouldn't personally make comments about an individual's outfit (my comment on shoes was general not related to this funeral, I did not see the walking) but state funerals have been state funerals forever.
LEMtheoriginal · 17/04/2021 20:56

Maybe the queen, quite rightly, couldn't give a flying fuck what was on her grandaughters' legs.

youshallnotpass9 · 17/04/2021 20:57

@DareIask it was tradition to have a state funeral, but that rule got broken as well.
