I am not a royalist, but I thought today was really special. One thing that struck me though was the high heels. They could barely walk in them, especially on the cobbles. Isn't it a shame that women have to torture themselves like this.

jiigsaw - what I thought too. Not the occasion for f*ck me shoes. I expect if the cameras hadn't been on them, they might have slipped them off and walked up the hill in bare feet. (Which is what my nieces do when wearing such shoes.)

Toddlerteaplease · 17/04/2021 22:28

@felulageller

I feel sorry for Eugenie and Zara that they had to go so soon after giving birth. Neither exclusively breastfeeding it seems.
It was there grandfathers funeral. For goodness sake. Of course they couldn't take the babies.
Mrsmadevans · 17/04/2021 22:31

Did Harry have his desert boots on l wonder.

dottiedaisee · 17/04/2021 22:33

Can genuinely say the heels were amazing and felt quite jealous that I cannot wear them anymore 😂Have booked myself in for having toenails and lag wax ...😊

BrightYellowDaffodil · 17/04/2021 22:34

As a long term heel-wearer (and feminist, but I still bloody love a heel) I would walk carefully over cobbles as it’s very easy to get a heel caught or tip over. It’s nothing to do with not being able to walk in them - I can, and have, run for a train in heels - but uneven ground like cobbles means you walk carefully.

And it looked like me like the cars were ready to take them to wherever they were going, but they chose to walk.

nocoolnamesleft · 17/04/2021 22:37

Pretty sure they didn't know they would be walking. There was a comment on the coverage (I think Sky) about the difficulty of timings making sure the cars would be back at the right moment.

ConstantlyChanging · 17/04/2021 22:47

There's definitely something weird about high heels. I have no idea why anyone wears them.

ineedaholidaynow · 17/04/2021 22:48

yes I think they waved the cars away so they could walk back

youshallnotpass9 · 17/04/2021 22:51

@DareIask

Blimey. You are all really spoiling for a silly fight tonight.

The irony of arguing over tights and their colour....

I wasn't arguing over their colour, I was saying you made a ridiculous comment and called you out on it
3JsMa · 17/04/2021 22:52

FFS,it's Duke's funeral but hey,let's bitch about what women wear,shame new mothers and speculate about tights and cobbles Hmm.

AvocadoPlant · 17/04/2021 22:52

Kate always wear heels (& looks amazing in them). I wondered if the Royals of her generation were taking their lead from her?
Though I did think that if you knew you’d be walking uphill after the funeral then you’d probably choose a lower heel so agree this was probably an impromptu decision at the end of a very emotional service.

Righto.

Thatsnotmyfacemynoseistoobig · 17/04/2021 23:02

Love heels cant wear them anymore, old.

There’s these things called breast pumps ...
DareIask · 17/04/2021 23:06

@youshallnotpass9 my comment was not ridiculous. Protocol is protocol whether you like it or not. My thoughts that it's a shame B & E chose not to follow it are perfectly reasonable.

agentnully · 17/04/2021 23:10

I can't wear heels now. The older I get the lower my heels get. I suspect Princess Anne feels the same and is confident enough to wear low.

Heels are lovely and look great - until the wearer goes too high and clearly can't walk in them properly. Then they go from elegant to plain silly.

Icantchangemyusername · 17/04/2021 23:10

FFS so not only are they being judged on their choice of footwear but also for whether or not they're breastfeeding. So what if they're not?

But the funeral wasn't about protocol, and even someone with only the most cursory interest would know that.

Geranibum · 17/04/2021 23:13

@jiigsaw

I thought the younger women’s high heels looked really really silly.

“Normal” high heels would have been fine. Those things made their feet practically vertical. Real f*ck me shoes!

Yes, too high, too sexy for a funeral in my view (just the same as you wouldn't wear a plunging neckline). I was surprised. Also noticed that Prince Edward's daughter was wearing heels - she is 17 but looks and dresses "young" and seemed rather awkward in them. They weren't so very high though.
TheThingsWeAdmitOnMN · 17/04/2021 23:15

@ineedaholidaynow

They probably hadn’t banked on walking back to the castle though
They hadn't they were supposed to go in the cars, it was Charles who started the walking up thing. If I'd been in those sky scrapers I'd have taken one off & brained him with it!

I'd need a step ladder to get into those heels!!! and an ambulance shortly after!!

They look fabulous though.

The90swereadecadeago · 17/04/2021 23:15

Are we still discussing what women wear in 2021?

DareIask · 17/04/2021 23:16

@SarahAndQuack if you didn't see a dress code then you watched something different to me 🤷‍♀️

ineedaholidaynow · 17/04/2021 23:17

I would have embarrassed myself just trying to walk one step in heels like that, the Queen would not have been amused. If I then had to walk up that hill, I would have had to take them off @TheThingsWeAdmitOnMN

SarahAndQuack · 17/04/2021 23:20

I think you've confused me with another poster? I've not said I didn't see a dress code.

KillingMeDeftly · 17/04/2021 23:20

Surely the dress code was "wear black"? Which they all did.
