Royal females . High heels.

I am not a royalist, but I thought today was really special. One thing that struck me though was the high heels. They could barely walk in them, especially on the cobbles. Isn't it a shame that women have to torture themselves like this.

Nope. Just observations.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 17/04/2021 21:44

I wonder if it was because of something Prince Philip had once commented about ? Maybe it was one of his private jokes or something about women in stilettos.
It seems an odd choice that they were all in really high heels despite them knowing where they were going to be walking.

SarahBellam · 17/04/2021 21:46

Here we go again; yet another post criticising what other women are wearing, including some who are actually criticising other women for the colour of their tights. Has anyone criticised one of the men for wearing the wrong colour cuff links or because he was wearing an unfashionable coat or because his medals weren’t shiny enough? No, of course not, because it’s not important. Heels are obviously ridiculous things but if it makes people happy to wear them let them get on with it. They’re not doing anyone else any harm.

@Harriscap

Females?!

Are you the dad in Friday Night Dinner?

Hahaha I thought the same thing!

Not your posts, they weren't.

I don't think they were originally meant to walk back. It looks like it was a spontaneous thing as several cars were sent back empty.
SarahAndQuack · 17/04/2021 21:50

@Peregrina

They didn't have to wear high heels - they chose to. Notice how Princess Anne knowing that she would be walking wore some sensible shoes.

I loved it when Diana came on the scene and you could get fashionable shoes with low heels.

Yes, I'm sure Princess Anne, being about three years older than Beatrice, looked longingly at the skyscraper Manolos her closet is filled with, then decided to wear something else because she knew she'd be walking. Hmm

Or, y'know, she's a generation older and she wore the shoes she wore, and they wore the shoes they wore, and it was someone's funeral and they didn't actually have most of their minds on shoes?

beccahamlet · 17/04/2021 21:53

What's the correct word rather than females?

OP posts:
midsomermurderess · 17/04/2021 21:54

Is that you, Martin?

userxx · 17/04/2021 21:54

I choose to wear heels and it's certainly not torture, put me in a pair of flats and that's torture.

Were the men wearing cuff links? I couldn't tell. I was amazed at the medal collection Princess Anne has.

I think that they often all wear heels.
Moondust001 · 17/04/2021 21:55

Oddly. I haven't seen any video or pictures, I don't know what anyone wore, and I couldn't give a flying f**k. I'm sorry some old lady lost her husband, but seriously, get a grip - none of this is real life. It is all fiction. There are more important things in life, and a lot of people have lost much younger loved ones without anyone much caring.

yeOldeTrout · 17/04/2021 21:56

High heels don't look nice to me in any way.

Bright colours? Is that their only merit?

I also can't like any shoes that make walking difficult.

People are free to wear shoes that make walking difficult if that's what they like to do, of course.

DareIask · 17/04/2021 21:58

@SarahAndQuack I can assure you I was not being bitchy. I was just saying how I thought it sad they weren't going along with granny's example. As a woman of her generation she would have thought 'protocol' important and I'd have gone along with it. Out of respect and affection.

That's all.

Colouringaddict · 17/04/2021 21:58

@felulageller

I feel sorry for Eugenie and Zara that they had to go so soon after giving birth. Neither exclusively breastfeeding it seems.
How can you tell from a 45 min funeral service?

If Prince Andrew had worn high heels, THAT would be news.

Wheelerdeeler · 17/04/2021 22:00

William's trousers were too short

midsomermurderess · 17/04/2021 22:00

Women. It is the commonly-used word.

HappySwordMaker · 17/04/2021 22:00

I always thought black sheer tights/hosiery were a bit granny, but since Catherine was wearing them I think I’ll buy some as I hate my legs. We’re a similar age and she knows more about fashion than I do so that’s good enough for me!

RIP Prince Philip Flowers

Crossandcrochety · 17/04/2021 22:00

I cannot believe anyone feels it appropriate to comment on what ‘royal women’ were wearing on their feet, legs etc or not. FFS they were bidding farewell to their grandpa. Leave them be.
I’m far more angry about people posting photos left right and centre of the Queen, who frankly, should be left alone to mourn her husband. Poor woman. I can’t imagine what it would be like to lose my husband, let alone in the glare of the public eye.
(And I say this as an out-and-out republican)l.)
People should get a fucking grip and not pass judgment on others mourning a loved one.

Peregrina · 17/04/2021 22:01

Erm, I am the same age as Anne is. High heels had been invented before we were young women. There were the stiletto heels of the early sixties which did enormous damage to wooden floors.

When Diana first came on the scene flat shoes were quite dull but because she wore them or with small heels they started to make really nice fashionable ones, which as a bonus were comfortable to wear.

picklemewalnuts · 17/04/2021 22:01

I wonder whether there was a basic shoe oversight situation? That they have the good black dress/suit and coat lined up at all times. Shoes? Yes of course I've got black shoes! Then on the day 'bugger. They're all stilettos'.

SarahAndQuack · 17/04/2021 22:02

I'm afraid you certainly were going bitchy.

She clearly didn't give a flying fuck about protocol or she'd have quietly vetoed her husband's plans to have his coffin roll up in a specially-modified landrover.

She clearly, also, will have been given a say in the fact family didn't wear military dress uniform.

It is absolute mawkish nonsense to dress up being unpleasant about two young women with the excuse that you personally have clairvoyant access to the inner thoughts of the queen. You don't. You're just using that as an excuse to have a dig.
