Play nicely and don’t say anything that will get your post (or the thread) deleted. I’ll start. Archie is cute and it would be lovely to see him more often.

Hi all

Just a reminder - pulling apart someone's appearance is not what we would call civil debate. Continuing to do so will end up in the thread being removed, and suspensions.

mrscampbellblackagain · 19/08/2020 18:06

@LilyMumsnet do you just want people to stop discussing Harry and Meghan? Because I have seen way worse said about other females in the public eye.

Every thread ending up being deleted just seems a tad overkill but if you want the topic to stop being discussed then possibly just best to say it.

Roussette · 19/08/2020 18:19

Because I have seen way worse said about other females in the public eye

I haven't. Never seen it so bad as these hundreds of threads about MM.

I saw a whole thread pulled when someone discussed Victoria Beckham getting botox. (no idea if she has by the way)

cheezy · 19/08/2020 18:21

pulling apart someone's appearance

whose? Omid Scobie's?

mrscampbellblackagain · 19/08/2020 18:22

MM is gorgeous - I don't think that is up for debate. Kate has been called on here wrinkly, haggard, anorexic etc etc. And let us not even get into comments about people like Katie Price or Kerry Katona over the years.

As an aside of course Vicki B has botox, everyone in the public eye has botox Wink Can't wait for my appointment in September Wink Not that I am in the public eye.

Anyway, just seems MN want there to be no discussion of H & M just endless debates about evil mil's Smile

Well it will all come out in the wash over the next few years I guess.

mrscampbellblackagain · 19/08/2020 18:24

Oh was it Omid's appearance - it is hard to keep up when half the thread is deleted. I would think people should speculate more on Omid's career to date - now that is an interesting subject.

I do feel that H&M would be well advised to do a little more due diligence regarding the people they surround themselves with.

The problem is that my MIL is very nice. Getting divorced and remarried to find one to criticise seems a bit extreme. Grin

Mine is too @SunbathingDragon. Grin

jeffgoldblumlovespenguins · 19/08/2020 18:26

Yes I think they are referring to Omid, to be fair I don't think his appearance makes any difference to his behaviour.
Still if this thread is deleted at least I can attempt to start another thread which hopefully won't be deleted on the lines of too many!

LittleBearPad · 19/08/2020 18:27

How old is Omid Scobie? Its incredibly hard to tell - I’m sure he must be older than he looks.

mrscampbellblackagain · 19/08/2020 18:29

Well he said 33 to the times reporter but I believe it was revealed he was 39.

But it is good that he is so honest and truthful. Definitely a great ally in the press for H & M.

LittleBearPad · 19/08/2020 18:30

I want his skincare routine!

MoreHippoThanPenguin · 19/08/2020 18:33

I also think that posts were deleted as people were less than complementary about Omid’s appearance. I have always thought that Meghan is gorgeous Smile - and had nothing to say about Omid’s looks, just not that interested.

My MIL is amazing as well, we are completely bonded over the fact that we both love my husband (her son) and the little hippos (her grandchildren). If evil MILs are the only topic, I will have to be excused!

KatherineParr4 · 19/08/2020 18:56

I’m sure M has given him a few tips!

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 19/08/2020 18:56

I wasn't pulling apart Omid Scobie's appeareance.
I was actually saying that allegedly in some media photos of him it looks like someone (don't know who) may have disguised themselves with the use of make up/prosthetics to look totally different to who they really are.
Like an actor does in a film or allegedly the images have may have been photoshopped/airbrushed like the majority of celebrity photos on the internet - Kardashians come to mind allegedly

For all I know maybe that is Omid's real appearance & if so he's got lovely skin & is handsome in a pretty baby faced kind of way.
And he also has a nice smile.

It's probably my fault for not including this & also adding the word allegedly at the start.

However I feel it's very one rule for one thread & other rules for other threads where the critique of people's appearances/clothes/actions/ideas/sstate of mind are allowed to stand.

e.g. There is a thread in Style & Beauty about Caroline Hirons

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/3938155-has-anyone-else-stepped-away-from-cult-hirons

Posters have commented this
'She’s not a nice person. So hard. I bet she was a bully at school.'
&
'I also hate what she said about JKR. She is just a bit thick. I also cannot understand why she is a skincare guru, her own skin is not that good. Unless she is in her 60s.'

Another thread way back

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1040131-to-think-that-VB-actually-looks-ugly-in-this-pic

Posters calling Victoria ugly. Which is horrendous as she's very pretty imo.

Another recent thread

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3950622-aibu-liam-gallagher

Posters calling him ugly & nasty.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 19/08/2020 18:59

Just to reiterate Omid has lovely skin & is nice looking with a lovely smile & nice teeth. Many Americans have nice teeth.

JaJaDingDong · 19/08/2020 19:00

I think he's British, lucky chap

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 19/08/2020 19:03

Apologies to everyone on this thread for having a post deleted.
I really thought that there was nothing untoward in my post & I would be sad to see this thread banished.

Viviennemary · 19/08/2020 19:06

And Trump. The criticism of his appearance is off the scale. And everything about him. And that's everywhere. And Boris too.

PenguinBarnotBird · 19/08/2020 19:18
@BottomOfMyPencilCase Excellent post. I look at Scobie and I just despair for the future. But then I look at all the perfectly sensible, kind young people that I actually know and things don’t seem so bad.
These media types and so-called influencers though - when will people see through them? They are so fake.
This. A million times this. And also the attitude that if something happens / is mentioned on Twitter it’s a big deal. It can be a good option for spreading news but it’s not MainStream Media and never will be. The amount of people who can tell you that X happened on Twitter but they have not watched the news boils my blood....

Hi @LilyMumsnet

Is this a policy being applied across all the Talk threads?

BottomOfMyPencilCase · 20/08/2020 00:16

@roussette the deleted posts weren't about MM Did you mean to post on a different thread? Because your comment gives a false and unfair impression of the deletions.
I don't think it's relevant what Scobie looks like. Imo it's his actions and prose that are unbecoming but sadly all too common on Twitter. As well as all the abusive tweets about Angela Kelly prompted by his book, I stumbled across numerous tweets with fans of M cancelling their Vogue subscriptions because Vogue's insta had published one photo of Kate. If I were famous, that level of crazed fandom would worry and frighten me.

DH just asked why I was smiling so I read this out. "Fans of M?" he responded in a puzzled sort of way. "What, all three of them?" GrinGrinGrin
