Play nicely and don’t say anything that will get your post (or the thread) deleted. I’ll start. Archie is cute and it would be lovely to see him more often.

MoreHippo Yes I agree. When a new to these threads poster, posts something that is new to them, they would find it strange not to be able to.

BottomOfMyPencilCase · 20/08/2020 14:24

It just depends if posters are up for that. Or not.
I think certain posters are up for - as proven by the all welcome thread that somehow managed to beat the delete button. But I don't think all posters who frequent these threads are up for it. As for posters wanting to rehash old stories, I don't see why we can't say 'that's on this old thread' or 'this thread is only for current stories'. It requires self-moderation as well as MN moderation.

SunbathingDragon · 20/08/2020 14:29

The problem with just talking about current news and not new news, is that sometimes they interlink and sometimes something that is old news is back in the current news for some reason. Finding Freedom is a good example of this as it’s all about old news but due to the book’s release and serialisation, it’s come back as current news.

Also, I like some of the old news discussions such as when certain tiaras were worn and what the viewpoints were centuries ago etc.

BottomOfMyPencilCase · 20/08/2020 14:39

I love the tiara stories. The thread on the different ones is fascinating.

I think there's lots of issues with the H&M threads - the positive and the negative ones but if MN isn't going to moderate in a way that posters can clearly understand and posters don't want to self-moderate then I just need to accept these threads are always going to be the Twitter-adjacent part of MN. And there's little point expecting them to be a beacon of good faith or any of the principles that are standard elsewhere on MN.

Roussette · 20/08/2020 15:09

I agree that some old news is new news if that makes sense and there's no avoiding it.

I just think that continually bringing up Frogmore Cottage, or the wedding, or the Commonwealth church service or Archie in his nappy or similar is just rehashing what has all been said before. We all vaguely know what posters' views on it are anyway so what's the point. Unless of course something relevant to do with that sort of thing becomes news.

derxa · 20/08/2020 15:28

We all vaguely know what posters' views on it are anyway so what's the point I agree that it's pointless now. I don't want to be labelled racist. It made me feel utterly wretched so won't put myself in that particular firing line any more.

Viviennemary · 20/08/2020 15:53

I felt a bit irritated earlier that they were taking part in some Commonwealth type initiative. Why would they be involved in that when they are now living in the USA. Read in it the usual place. They want to be involved yet don't want to be.

BottomOfMyPencilCase · 20/08/2020 17:05

I think the pandemic has negatively impacted all speakers/Royals/celebrities. The massive disconnect between their lives and their 'causes' is inescapable when they're 'Zooming' in from their mansion or palace. When people attend events in person, it's easier to pretend the disparity isn't there.

KatherineParr4 · 20/08/2020 18:07

Did anyone else think Harry looked absolutely miserable in that video?

LittleBearPad · 20/08/2020 18:12

It might feel a bit more like they were standing on their own feet if he didn’t talk about ‘my grandmother’...

It wasn’t necessary to shoehorn the Queen into their discussion.

Roussette · 20/08/2020 18:25

I wanted to comment Katharine because I did watch it. I didn't see him looking miserable in the slightest. I thought they came across well, and there was smiling from all on the zoom.

Roussette · 20/08/2020 18:27

I presume we are talking about the same thing? It lasted 30 mins or thereabouts and was on the QCT?

Samcro · 20/08/2020 18:46

KatherineParr4
Can you please answer my earlier question.

Roussette · 20/08/2020 18:49

It wasn’t necessary to shoehorn the Queen into their discussion

As the discussion was with leaders from the Queens Commonwealth Trust, I am not sure how they could have avoided mentioning the Queen!

KatherineParr4 · 20/08/2020 18:53

@Samcro

sorry posted too soon, don't get the last bit about side swipes.
Have you read Finding Freedom? It's full of side swipes.
Viviennemary · 20/08/2020 19:01

Why are they referring to the Queens legacy. I thought that was for after people had died. A cringe making interview. I wish they'd just stop. Or somebody would stop them.

Roussette · 20/08/2020 19:03

Those on the interview seemed to enjoy it, they all looked to be in agreement. But of course we can agree to differ, I didn't find it in the slightest cringe making.

OverUnderSidewaysDown · 20/08/2020 19:04

Quite right that they should mention the Queen in a video for the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust.
Utterly unacceptable that they refer to her as “my grandmother” and “your grandmother” in an official video. “Her Majesty the Queen” is the phrase they should have used. Which Harry, at least, knows full well.

Sorry Samcro, I didn't mean to do that.
Iknowthingsthatwillhappen · 20/08/2020 19:43

Clearly making fun of Boris or Trumps appearance is wrong, the fact that are in charge of our lives is completely irrelevant (whoever said it). If M and H stuff about their appearance isn't allowed then Trump and Boris should be treated the same. That is why posters are annoyed with Mumsnet HQ. They can't have it both ways! (I look forward to the Trump threads now being heavily moderated!!!!!)

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 20/08/2020 19:45

There is current speculation about where Boris on this site. Major speculation and possibly slanderous. It will be interesting to see if those posts and thread are left to stand.

Samcro · 20/08/2020 19:57

KatherineParr4Thanks for clearing that up.

Samcro · 20/08/2020 20:00

I saw the boris thread, have you reported it?

alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 20/08/2020 20:05

Yes I have. I hope it is taken down.
