Play nicely and don’t say anything that will get your post (or the thread) deleted. I’ll start. Archie is cute and it would be lovely to see him more often.

I should hope so, what i saw was not pretty.

Samcro · 20/08/2020 21:08

Seems rules have changed and the only one thread about M doesn't seem to stand now🤴🏻👸🏻

SunbathingDragon · 20/08/2020 21:30

The Boris thread is awful but I’ve had this debate on this section of the forum before that we should not make personal attacks on him and been told I am wrong; that because he is our prime minister it’s permitted. 🤷🏻‍♀️

It should not be permitted to make frankly slanderous allegations against anyone.

I will probably get banned from saying this but Mumsnet are being hypocrites by permitting the comments they are. I reported that over 2.5 hours ago and had an acknowledgement that they were going to look into it. Nothing has been done.

SunbathingDragon · 20/08/2020 21:44

@alliwantisagoodnightssleep it’s not just that thread though. There are loads on various people but especially Boris and Trump although some recent ones on Johnny Depp and Amber Heard also were completely hypercritical compared to what is deleted here.

It’s the lack of consistency as much as the over zealous deletions.

Viviennemary · 20/08/2020 22:15

What was so bad about the Boris thread. Where can I find it. Or has it gone

Roussette · 20/08/2020 22:28

If you are talking about the long running Trump threads, I want to comment because I've been on all of them.
We do comment on Trump's mental health BUT there are countless MSM articles doing exactly that. I've linked articles from CNN, MSNBC, NBC, NYTimes, Huffington, WaPo... all talking about his deterioration.

There have been 103 threads spanning 5 years plus, and I would imagine that in all those threads there has been probably about single figure post deletions, they've been bots. So that's about 5 out of 100,000 posts (scary!) I vaguely remember them but not sure.

I would say 90% of the posts are linking information, discussing, dissecting what we're reading, copying links, double checking our sources. We work hard to verify news items and validate sources. If a poster finds something they posted is incorrect, they are mortified because our whole aim is to inform each other about the latest news.

To make out that the posts on these threads are a lot of criticising his appearance is quite honestly an insult. Come over and join us. You'd be welcome. They are very good natured welcoming bunch of people.

It’s still up, on the trending now section.

Unfortunately for the posters who made the inappropriate comments the Daily Mail has tracked him down to his holiday rental. I am not a Boris fan by any means but the allegations are out of order.

Viviennemary · 20/08/2020 23:31

Thanks alliwantisagoodnightsleep. Looks like he is on holiday.

I am certainly no fan in any way at all of Bozo politically but that thread has some truly horrible and libellous posts. If that is allowed to stand when so many other threads have been deleted I will be truly shocked and disgusted. Some posts are suggesting that he is not on holiday but in rehab! How can that be in the spirit of anything good?
TracyBeakerSoYeah · 21/08/2020 01:00

I've read the Boris thread as very tongue in cheek.
It's no worse or better than many of the threads on Mumsnet.

AuntieStella · 21/08/2020 06:58

If MN is going to play 'how far can you go?' when it comes to slagging off famous people, then they have to be meticulous.

And the read across between how much nasty speculation is allowed about person A compared to person B tends to suggest otherwise.

derxa · 21/08/2020 07:21

Even the Guardian publishes columns which are critical of Meghan and Harry.

I am sure I read on one of these threads that MM supporters claimed there was no evidence she wanted to get involved in politics?
If she wants to that’s great but I think any connection to the RF has to be dropped ie lose the Duchess title .

Oldbutstillgotit · 21/08/2020 07:48

And from across the pond...

Viviennemary · 21/08/2020 08:43

Is Meghan allowed to get involved in politics in the USA and not only keep her title but use it. That is just not on IMHO. The whole point of royalty is that they are not elected and don't get involved in politics.

Oldbutstillgotit · 21/08/2020 09:25

I agree and imagine that HM is not best pleased .

Viviennemary · 21/08/2020 09:54

I wonder if it will be dealt with. Or will they just go for their usual head in the sand politics. I'd go for the latter. Wouldn't it be rich if Meghan ended up as President and the Queen would have to host her at BP. Shock

meercat23 · 21/08/2020 10:11

I am really puzzled about M's latest broadcast. My understanding was that, as a member of the RF she should not be directly involved in politics. How is it viewed in the US that, as a member of the British RF, she has started to involve herself in the US election? Can she do this while using a British royal title?

Viviennemary · 21/08/2020 10:40

There might not be a rule for it as nobody has done it before. Will it be Duchess President Meghan Markle. Or President Duchess Meghan Markle. At least Harry will get to be first man.Grin

KatherineParr4 · 21/08/2020 10:46

It’s going to be really tricky when HM dies and Charles is King. He will have to tread the line between keeping Megs in line and being a father in law. That will be very hard and a conflict of interests.

OverUnderSidewaysDown · 21/08/2020 11:08

It’s interesting that a lot of people in the USA who are commenting on the video (Daily Mail comments sorry) are saying it has made them determined to vote for Trump.

OP posts:
meercat23 · 21/08/2020 11:21

Well in all honesty if they are commenting in the DM they are quite likely to have voted for Trump anyway.

If HM lives as long as her mother, she could be around for another 8+ years, so who knows what the situation will be then. In the meantime, Charles will keep supporting them because he loves his son to bits, nomatter what he might think of his actions.
BottomOfMyPencilCase · 21/08/2020 11:34

I'm starting to feel a bit sorry for the courtiers who are writing notes for the annual review Grin They will be trawling through lots of old books to find out if there is a forgotten law from 1520 about non-senior non-working members of the RF getting involved in politics in other countries ... It's tricky because the RF can't stop H&M speaking and I'd imagine the RF want to avoid - 'Silenced by HMQ!!' headlines - but this current arrangement seems very messy.
