Two little bits of news I read today. First the bells won't ring out at Westminster Abbey for Meghans birthday next month and she'll be devastated. No I don't think she'll even expect them to ring. And I had to smile at Bogart the dog was left behind in Canada because it didn't take to Harry. What else could she do. Hardly leave Harry behind. And it would have been a worry with a baby in the house too. She did the right thing here.

"Oh yes, the ring."
Oh pulease 🙄
And the next stop was to the jewellers to alter it.

KrigerMalory · 26/07/2020 19:11

Is there some kind of royal rule /protocol that she couldn’t alter the ring?( genuine question). I altered my engagement ring & my husband was totally fine with it, I know lots of people who do.

CallmeAngelina · 26/07/2020 19:13

Oh yes! The ring that was supposedly perfect .... but she then had completely remodelled.
Familiar story.

CallmeAngelina · 26/07/2020 19:14

Oops, didn't see those posts.

Justmuddlingalong · 26/07/2020 19:17

There's no rules about altering the ring in the royal family,or any other family afaik. Apparently she prefers dainty jewellery, so changed the band. The 3 big fuck off diamonds however, weren't changed for daintier ones.

KrigerMalory · 26/07/2020 19:20

@Justmuddlingalong thanks for The reply.

Viviennemary · 26/07/2020 19:23

She sounds like she is never satisfied no matter what. Not saying this is true but that's the impression she gives me. Not happy with her Dad, not happy with her mum's family, not happy with Kate and Wills, not happy with royal staff, not happy with her place in the royal hierarchy. When will it ever end.

Pah - yes, the species will survive in grand indifference to the quality of life or survival of the individual.

This was a post on another thread in respect of a discussion of barnacle geese and the perilous journey that hatchlings must make when they leave the nest. (I don't think I'm allowed to copy a whole post from another thread).

But the parallels are such that I forgot which thread I was on. Grin

It wasn't the fact she changed it that people found odd, it was because she changed it to look like her previous engagement ring.

Justmuddlingalong · 26/07/2020 19:51

Thanks for the clarification, WindsorBlues. That is a bit odd. But what I think even odder is that she must have thought the original design didn't have enough diamonds. 🤔

WindsorBlues · 26/07/2020 19:59

@Justmuddlingalong a girl can never have enough diamonds 😂

FromEden · 26/07/2020 20:06

I think its odd and rude to change a ring that was personally designed by your husband to be. I mean, he clearly put thought into it but it wasnt good enough. Bit of a slap in the face for him really and I guess it was just setting the tone for how their relationship would be going forward.

Justmuddlingalong · 26/07/2020 20:10

According to the press she returned her rings to her exDH, by post, after their relationship ended. Not the same provenance as her new set though. 😉

lilmishap · 26/07/2020 20:12

So they met on a blind date and at a charity event after Harry bombarded her with texts? I guess the blind date version leaves out her then boyfriend.

They got engaged in Botswana but told us the homely cosy Roast Chicken story, why allow other times you've deliberately misled the press to make yourself look better come out now?

KrigerMalory · 26/07/2020 20:12

I don’t get the impression that MM was never satisfied with her maternal side of the family, she was close to her grandmother after all. As for her father’s side of the family thought they were not close, wasn’t Samantha reported to have called Meghan’s mother a maid?. I suppose families are complex, and I don’t think HaM’s families are any different. There is a lot I personally feel I can criticise Meghan for but her family relations is not one of them, except that she should have introduced her fiancée to her father before the wedding.

I don’t know how much I believe about this book just like all the others. To me it’s just a rehash of all the stuff that has been printed in the media & blogs over the past few years. Maybe one day they will write a book or give an interview though I hope they don’t . I hope the media especially will eventually loose interest, and all parties can move on.

Viviennemary · 26/07/2020 20:13

If she likes dainty little rings she can have my micro diamond. I've hinted for years about a better one but DH isn't for listening. I'll take Meghans bling any day. I could buy my own but don't see why I should. As for Meghan I think if it was an old /traditional piece of jewellery then she probably wouldn't have altered it. But I can't see a great harm in having it changed though it could be seen as a big never satisfied. It would be unthinkable for Kate to alter Diana's ring. I don't suppose William would allow it and I expect Kate wouldn't want to change it in any case.

OP posts:
diddl · 26/07/2020 20:20

I preferred it before the change, but it looks as if the ring is narrower-maybe needed/wanted because she also wears another ring as well?

Are there also diamonds in the band?

DeRigueurMortis · 26/07/2020 20:21

Tbh I don't get the problem with M changing her ring.

I've done it with a few pieces of jewellery I've inherited or been given from DH (in terms of the latter until he learned my taste Grin which is less rather than more..).

I honestly don't see the point of living with a piece of jewellery (especially one you wear daily) that isn't quite "you".

MissEliza · 26/07/2020 20:31

I always thought the 'proposal over roast chicken' story was horse shit.

CallmeAngelina · 26/07/2020 20:32

I wouldn't want anyone to choose jewellery for me, so I don't have an issue with anyone wanting to alter something like an engagement ring that you're going to wear for life. Hopefully.
But in the engagement interview she was raving about it being perfect.
When it clearly wasn't.

Nishky · 26/07/2020 20:50

I am sure that when asked about the ring in the engagement interview Harry said ‘yellow gold- because that’s her favourite’ so I was a bit surprised when the yellow gold band was changed.

Although I agree it’s not a big issue to change the ring- the second version is very pretty

LadyPerseverance · 26/07/2020 20:57

Why would they lie about how and when they got engaged? This is all getting so odd!

If it is true (by that I mean it is published in the book) how is this going to help them look better? Surely all it shows is that they are liars who lied directly to the public in their engagement interview? Again, this sort of thing doesn’t make them look good considering their pending lawsuits. This is such a strange thing to have done Hmm

The80sweregreat · 26/07/2020 21:02

I'd rather that they said ' he got down on one knee to propose , whilst the chef prepared our chicken roast' !
Or just the truth would have done.
(My sil thinks she was fed up with being given ' frog more cottage' near Heathrow airport rather than her own fairy tale castle!)
They are paying all that back for the renovations I read somewhere..What with renting in LA too , it's an expensive time for them.
