More News on Harry and Meghan

Two little bits of news I read today. First the bells won't ring out at Westminster Abbey for Meghans birthday next month and she'll be devastated. No I don't think she'll even expect them to ring. And I had to smile at Bogart the dog was left behind in Canada because it didn't take to Harry. What else could she do. Hardly leave Harry behind. And it would have been a worry with a baby in the house too. She did the right thing here.

I has forgotten the dog had been left with JM. But if her and Meghan have fallen out JM might think why should she keep her dog. Seems a shame the dog has to suffer. It's not the dogs fault.

I wonder how much time Bogart got to spend with Harry as their relationship seemed to be very quick, with not a huge amount of time in Canada.

I would like to think they did give dog behaviourist an opportunity to work with them but again, I don’t really see how much time there was for that.

In many ways you can see why so many rescue centres in the U.K. have such a stringent rehoming policy, and it’s to make sure dogs do have their forever homes and don’t get effectively left behind (potentially more than once). At least I would hope Meghan is continuing to provide for Bogart or else is ensuing behind the scenes that he has a happy home where he is cared for.

Blimey the dog's suffering now! He could be sat in the sun chewing a bone as we type!

Probably better for Bogart not to be dragged to UK and back.

talk about scraping the barrel to have a dig.
plenty of people rehome dogs. especially when they have kids.

I don't think JM will need to go to a food bank to get dog food. But I wonder if Meghan pays the vet bills. I don't think Bogart will be suffering. There will be plenty of servants to take it walks.

If a poster said they were rehoming their dog (especially one that had already been rehomed) for having kids or relocating then they would be crucified on Mumsnet and other circles. This opinion isn't directed just at MM. There are threads similar to this regularly on MN. I appreciate we don't know the facts in MM case but the ones circulating in the media I can understand why people would criticise those circumstances. Dogs are not disposable.

Prince Andrew was 60 this year and Princess Anne will be 70. I can't imagine they'd ring bells for a 39th birthday for a person who doesn't want to be royal anymore.

Beatrice's private wedding also solved the will they/won't they question about whether H&M would attend - so double whammy for the RF.

I think moving to another country would be a good enough reason to rehome a dog if you didn't think it would settle. And I doubt Meghan had any idea she would be moving to the UK when she got the dog.

I imagine that right now the RF is more relieved that Andrew got to give Beatrice away without the public or media watching. I genuinely don’t think H&M would be a high priority concern amongst the vast number of guests initially expected. After all, a huge number of them have their own issues with each other (eg Philip with Fergie etc) that would have been a greater priority.

I completely agree on both accounts although I would have thought she would have been expecting to move back to USA from Canada.

I didn't mean the speculation amongst the RF themselves, there's been plenty of speculation on threads on MN about when we'd see H&M in the UK again - B's wedding was touted as a possible occasion.

I may be wrong but I thought that they said that they were gong to stay in Canada?

I'm sure they announced North America. They were in Canada at the time. So either they were undecided about Canada or knew the intention all along was USA.

Look, I don't care one jot for how Harry & Meghan have gone about things, but I think criticism about the dog is stretching things a bit.
It may have been about the dog's age, or a combination of things, but I'm sure he's in a good home and being well-cared for, which is the main thing.

Elsewhere on Mumsnet people recently went hysterical when someone wanted to dispose of their sea monkeys...

I meant when he was originally adopted which was pre-relationship and when Meghan was acting in Canada.

It's the same principle though isn't it? People on that thread were adamant that once you take responsibility for a pet, whether it's an amoeba or a great ape, you don't just ditch it.

Report
Roussette · 19/07/2020 12:49

It surely is dependent on circumstances for each case ?

Report
Viviennemary · 19/07/2020 12:51

It does depend on the circumstances. And Meghan did take responsibility as far as we know by arranging for it to be rehomed with somebody she knew. She didn't abandon it in a motorway layby.
