Harry and Meghan and the intricacies of the Monarchy
PelicanPie · 01/03/2020 16:34
Here's a follow on to the last thread, which was really enjoyable.
chatterbugmegastar · 01/03/2020 16:42
I haven't read the previous thread yet, but I am starting to wonder what on Earth is going on?! The latest news reports seem quite extraordinary Not bringing the baby therefore ever increasing security costs, the Queen is sad .... what next ?
CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 01/03/2020 16:45
Signing in. Thank you for the new thread.
Lot of it may be made up to sell papers & speculation. But who knows I’m sure the Queen is upset that she’s not seeing Archie. I know my gran would have been.
PelicanPie · 01/03/2020 16:47
Sorry, just realised someone else has started one, so perhaps we should stick to that one as it has more replies as started earlier!
Waspie · 02/03/2020 09:39
Could this thread be used for the derail into lineage, history, titles etc. ? I'm really enjoying that
The thread title of "Intricacies of the monarchy" would be quite apt.
DandyAF · 02/03/2020 13:48
To save confusion and have the chatting in one piece can we keep to (the other) one for now? The historical diversions worked well because they were organic and did have a link to H and M! We could come to this one when the other fills.
Waspie · 02/03/2020 17:08
Okay, yes that's a good idea Dandy
ArriettyJones · 05/03/2020 22:39
I am not really sure I understand what it is they are trying to do any more.
Myimaginarycathasfleas · 11/03/2020 08:09
Just popping on here as the previous thread was deleted as being a TAAT. Which I didn't see but clearly someone did. Do we want to reactivate this thread for royal gossip?
Rainbows8117 · 11/03/2020 08:12
Honestly it's getting ludicrous now. There was plenty of non-TAAT discussion including some really personal issues for some posters and some new news articles that have come out overnight. What we are discussing is RELEVANT and JUSTIFIED.
MNHQ need to deal with the people that keep reporting the threads.
Rainbows8117 · 11/03/2020 08:13
Or are they going to start deleting all threads that are numbered 2 onwards...
Myimaginarycathasfleas · 11/03/2020 08:17
Just to kick us off (and before we get into TAAT territory again), I notice that there might be issues with Beatrice's wedding what with Edo's family being Italian and from Lombardy. That poor girl, she deserves better luck.
7Worfs · 11/03/2020 08:18
Myimaginarycathasfleas · 11/03/2020 08:19
Oh, and your post is spot on, @Rainbows8117
Rainbows8117 · 11/03/2020 08:20
I know I saw that yesterday. She must feel like everything is against her at the moment. I really feel for her.
Rainbows8117 · 11/03/2020 08:22
With regards to the prank calls, I read that the same happened to Elton John thinking it was Putin, and there is also one of Boris Johnson. I can't decide if they are genuine pranks or spoof. The voices sound very real.
DandyAF · 11/03/2020 08:22
Nice to see this reactivated.
So, the hoax tapes. I feel very sorry for Harry being pranked.
Meghan is apparently back in Canada.
Myimaginarycathasfleas · 11/03/2020 08:25
Do you mean, the whole thing is fake? I do hope so, "Harry" seems to have said something quite ill advised things, some might think dangerous. I hope it is just a big con.
7Worfs · 11/03/2020 08:26
I can understand Meghan dashing off to be with baby while Harry sorts out final details.
Though I really thought they are done in Canada.
yolofish · 11/03/2020 08:28
Off to read about the hoax stuff - I really hate tricks like that.
Myimaginarycathasfleas · 11/03/2020 08:34
Thinking about the rapid return to the US, what I don't understand is what has happened to all the Soho House friends, and others M will have had for the first few months of Archie's life. If she really didn't have any, then I feel sorry for her, it must have been very isolating whatever you think of her.
But I would have thought being home on this trip would have been the perfect opportunity to bring Archie and catch up, especially if they are apparently going to be here regularly.
All of which makes me think it's (yet) another example of dump and run.
7Worfs · 11/03/2020 08:36
Ohh that call.
Though this part grated a lot:
their new life in Canada is 'much better' than serving as senior royals.
Their new life is entirely a product of their RF connection ffs - the fame, the money, the hanger-on ‘friends’!
Ofc living a privileged life without having to work for it is better than working for it!
And Harry seems to believe living in a mega-mansion in a very private and exclusive area is ‘normal life’.
Winterlife · 11/03/2020 08:39
To him, it is normal. Plus, he strikes me as rather dim.
Barleylemon · 11/03/2020 08:42
Ooooh. Here we are. Morning, everyone. Am using these threads as a distraction from 'life'. I have recently gone from very anti-monarchy to a little bit pro, which has surprised me enormously. While they go against everything that is meritocratic, equal and fair, I have realised that they provide a service just like 'God' does (and, it appears to be a human need to believe in something 'higher'). We know that they can buy anything they want (we have the receipts) but in exchange, we want a constancy when things are bad, and, when they are good. Constancy. No words (we have professionals for that), no thoughts (ditto), just a physical presence embodied in something that stands out, appearance-wise that we can look at while we contemplate. The Queen does this admirably. She just turns up and turns up and turns up. I never, ever thought I'd hear myself say this. Anyone else like this?
Burlea · 11/03/2020 08:46
Don't know if anyone can tell me, but now Harry is no longer HRH is he no longer in line to the throne. I think he's sixth.
goldierocks · 11/03/2020 08:49
The hoax call was a low down dirty trick, I'd feel sick if that happened to me.
Completely agree with you @Rainbows8117. I can't find it in the Talk Guidelines - perhaps MNQH would be good enough to explain the difference between 'follow on' threads which are clearly allowed (Westministenders on the Brexit board and the Trump AIBU for just two examples) vs TAATs.
I took a transcript of Yolo's thread and there is no difference between it and other 'follow on' threads IMVHO.
