Every time I hear that Archie CANNOT BE TOUCHED because he is AN AMERICAN CITIZEN I start humming Grin

GracefulHippo · 23/02/2020 19:24

Catherine, I missed this. I am so sorry to hear that, I hope you reported the messages Flowers

SenecaFallsRedux · 23/02/2020 19:24

you do not need to be born on American soil to be President

True. You have to be a natural born citizen, which includes birthright citizenship, even if born abroad, by virtue of having one American parent who meets certain criteria, which Meghan did at the time of Archie's birth.

DandyRaven · 23/02/2020 19:25

Yes Catherine what Hippo said. Wine

SenecaFallsRedux · 23/02/2020 19:30

why was there so much speculation about Obama's right to be president then? Because certain people tried to claim that he was born in Kenya. At the time of his birth, his mother was a US citizen, but the argument was that she did not meet one of the criteria (number of years resident in the US continuously). But it was all specious anyway as President Obama was born in the US (Hawaii).

There is no question that Meghan met the US parent criteria.

Seneca while you are on, a PP asked why aristo males don't wear coronets in the same way women wear tiaras - if you have time I think I and many would appreciate you sharing your knowledge on this particular subject

SenecaFallsRedux · 23/02/2020 19:38

7Worfs I really don't know definitively, except that tiaras are essentially just pieces of jewelry, not designating a particular rank. Non-titled women wear them as well. I do rather fancy the notion of a state dinner with all the peers decked out with coronets on their heads. Crown

TimeLady · 23/02/2020 19:43

Peers only wear coronets at coronations

Would Hollywood want to associate with MM given all that has happened with HMQ & RF? The behaviour recorded so far isn't positive and doesn't encourage confidence in maintaining future relations. It's all very blatant, the hobnobbing with A list stars and using the RF as a launch pad to catapault herself into Hollywood. What she hasn't realised is that she's lost all credibility by doing this. Would any A lister actually want anything to do with her now that it's all out in the open?

OVienna · 23/02/2020 19:45

mhor is you a Yank by birth? You have kept that QUIET! Reveal thyself.

7Worfs · 23/02/2020 19:48

Thanks - makes sense why we don't see more then.

Googling now, I can only find Princes of Wales wearing a coronet at their investiture, and Prince Phillip during HMQ coronation.

TheMustressMhor · 23/02/2020 19:51

OVienna

No, I am not a Yank by birth. I just got carried away for a moment. After all, Donald Trump is currently President and I doubt if I would be a worse President than he is.

I had better start unpacking, I suppose.

Now I’m musing as Jennifer Aniston is mentioned up thread

We agree Meghan pre Harry wouldn’t have got a look in at Disney

Friends - one of the most famous shows of the day - would JA have got a call back in the first few seasons?

And did the Friends cast count as A list or because it was a tv show B list

Same for Game of Thrones actors

I’m digressing I know so feel free to ignore me Grin

StartupRepair · 23/02/2020 19:52

So much going on. I fear that in Harry and Meg land, the Queen's natural desire to protect the Royal Brand is seen as further proof of how toxic the family is and how important it is that they escape.
I also think that the Queen was not pleased by Peter Phillips' milk ad and is clear that she doesn't want her close descendants doing any more like that.

7Worfs · 23/02/2020 19:56

A-list are the names that bring people to movie theaters, and are always on award ceremonies - e.g. Charlize Theron, Jennifer Lawrence, Scarlett Johansson

B-list are your household names who aren't A-list, such as leads from VERY successful TV shows, e.g. Big Bang Theory.

Jen was B-list while on friends, when she moved onto the big screen she gradually became A-list, but not for some years - she did terrible romcoms at first.

OVienna · 23/02/2020 19:56

The irony is the Trump is eligible for a British passport. I wonder if he has it.... (Scottish mum)

DobbyTheHouseElk · 23/02/2020 19:57

Watching a programme on C5 about Royal Protocol. It’s rather dated now, and it’s talking about MM.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 23/02/2020 19:59

Interesting thank you worf

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 23/02/2020 20:12

Thanks @DandyRaven and @GracefulHippo don't worry, I defended myself well! I reckon one of the people concerned was missing a screw anyway and may now be banned from MN.

I fear that in Harry and Meg land, the Queen's natural desire to protect the Royal Brand is seen as further proof of how toxic the family is and how important it is that they escape.

See, this makes me question how much M understood when accepting marriage into the RF. They are not a 'normal' family. The Queen represents the constitutional monarchy. She is Queen first and constitutional head, with wife second and grandma third or even fourth who knows! MM is in no position to complain about toxic family relations... it's strange that Sophie and Kate manage to fulfill their duties with integrity and still maintain respect for the Queen because they respect they are serving the institution and it is an honour to do so if you have the right attitude.

Clearly she had zero understanding of all of this. But anyone else with sense will understand that you often have to put yourself last when you are serving something bigger than you are.

If she wanted an ordinary life why did she accept H proposal? She didn't even say 'I need some time to really think about it' which anyone else who truly understood what role they'd be stepping into would.

Instead she jumped in with 'can I say yes now?' Then complains afterwards.

SenecaFallsRedux · 23/02/2020 20:19

I don't think she wanted an ordinary life at all. I think she had every intention of playing by the rules; she certainly did at the beginning. What she didn't anticipate was the level of negative press scrutiny that often seemed to be animated by questionable motives.

lyralalala · 23/02/2020 20:24

I don't think it's coincidence that Sophie and Kate were girlfriends for a long time before marrying in

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 23/02/2020 20:29

How long was Sophie a girlfriend for? I paid no attention at the time.

Peaseblossom22 · 23/02/2020 20:33

Sophie and Edward were together for almost a decade I think , they actually lived together in a flat in Windsor Castle for quite a while before they were married. That was when she had the PR company and he was working for the Really Useful Co

SenecaFallsRedux · 23/02/2020 20:36

I think it was a good six years or so for Sophie and Edward so a good long while.

DandyRaven · 23/02/2020 20:44

Tiara Jennifer Anniston’s an interesting one.

I think there was a time during Friends when she and the cast were A List, then she went down post-Friends to B, then back up as Worfsy (as I call her) said. A list briefly during Friends because it was such a phenomenon at a time when there were far less t-shows to compete with. They were on the cover of Vanity Fair and JA’s hairstyle The Rachel Wink was known and copied world-wide.

I think JA would have got a callback in the first few seasons because she has natural comedic timing and big on-screen presence. She’s got that star presence and special something on-screen imo which I don’t think MM has an actress.

As herself, as a speaker or presenter then MM’s definitely highly charismatic (imo). But personally I find her MUCH more charismatic as herself than in character on a TV series.
