I saw that photo of Diana for the first time in the Channel 4 house of Windsor documentary this week. The photographer explained how he came to take it.

Now back in the day as a youngster, I looked at all the published photos of Diana and recognised every other one shown in the programme.

rockingchaircandle · 25/01/2020 23:52

They seem to have worked their issues out for themselves by stepping back. It's mainly outsiders now, determined to see 'issues'.

"She got a look at the future, didn't like it but still wanted to get married" I agree there could be some truth to this and I think it's brilliant, good for her. Should she have been scared off? Shows real commitment to Harry.

katiegoestoaldi · 25/01/2020 23:56

Or a commitment to the social ladder

katiegoestoaldi · 25/01/2020 23:57

It's too early to tell if they've sorted out their issues. One thing is for certain. There's been no pap shots since Harry rejoined her. Interesting

GoFiguire · 25/01/2020 23:59

Trump 🐘

rockingchaircandle · 26/01/2020 00:24

@katiegoestoaldi

Yes, always look on the bright side!

I'm sure you would have found it just as interesting if there has been papparazzi photos. They can't really do right for wrong, can they? What is it about her that makes you think she's a social climber?

CleansUpDragonPoo · 26/01/2020 00:27

Evening all, the gin's put away and I'm having a cup of tea and catch up on the new thread - thanks yolo - before bed. I'm pleased it's all gone quiet, I hope H&M are able to take a deep breath and enjoy some family time together. I remember those adorable official photos of tiny George in his miniature dressing gown meeting Obama, and am looking forward to seeing the next official photos of Archie in due course.

Nighty night

Just watching the crown, season 2 episode 7: a journalist writes in his article ‘the monarchy will not survive, let alone thrive’...

Well I guess now we know what Meg has been watching Grin

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 26/01/2020 02:39

The Sun newspaper is reporting that Meghan has abandoned her bid to become a British citizen because of rules which stipulate how much time applicants have to be in the UK to qualify.

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 26/01/2020 02:43

It isn't only W&K that have attempts made to overshadow them in the press. H&M need to check the RF's diaries and avoid doing this if it isn't deliberate. Otherwise they need to stop playing childsh games.

@rockingchaircandle
Please don't police this thread as well

How ironic you should post this given that you've been one of the most active policers of the threads previously, frequently telling posters what is wrong about what they've posted. I don't agree with Wendy's comment about the Trump threads but I do find your complaint about this hypocritical. You've got no more authority than she has to say what should or shouldn't happen here. And if you want to fall back on 'I have the right to reply and say what I think' - sure, but then so do other people..

That Vanity Fair article was fascinating.

DM article on Doria

That’s the first I’ve heard any I for about her.
Couple of quotes are telling

Advice to Meghan “Don’t give the milk away for Free”
Also apparently Harry is paying rent on a house in Beverley Hills for Doria.

So Harry has money to support his MIL, but still expects financial support from his Dad.

Was watching the Diana interview last night.
If H&M are really planning a tell all interview with either Oprah or Ellen I think just the fact they are doing it without even knowing the content is really quite shocking.

Any money they earn from it should go for paying their security.
If they are going to benefit from trading off the RF connection; then surely they should reimburse the privileges and costs they insure as a result of it.
Also; the unknown person who is lending them a house, What do they get out of it? Surely there comes a time to Pay the Piper.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/01/2020 06:06

*incur; not insure

callmeadoctor · 26/01/2020 06:43

I actually think that tagging people in seems a bit like targeting? It would be lovely if maybe people avoided it? Then it wouldn't seem quite like bullying? Just a thought.

mrscampbellblackagain · 26/01/2020 06:44

The DM do love to blame a woman don't they? I think it is one of those articles where they are trying to make a point but god knows what it is.

Far too much blame put on Meghan in my opinion - Harry is a grown up and knew what he was doing and getting her involved in. But the public is so keen to exonerate him from any blame. However, I suspect this is how the RF want it to keep doors open for him in the event of him wanting to come back.

The limit for time outside UK for those seeking naturalisation has been issued in earlier parts of this thread - nice to see The Sun has caught up!

I suppose an exceptional arrangement could be made for her. Fast track naturalisation was mentioned around the time of the wedding, and it was understood that the couple at that point wanted no special arrangements. As there is no doubt that she is genuinely married to a Brit, she will always secure visitor's access to Britain, she might not need it right now anyway

Poppyfields21 · 26/01/2020 07:33

Gosh if I were Meghan I’d be rethinking who I am friends with. Seems none of them can be trusted to use any discretion, they’re constantly blabbing to the meanies at the press Wink such a shame for her when she has tried so very very hard to keep a low profile...

WinnieTheW0rm · 26/01/2020 07:36

Yes, a more leak-proof circle would be helpful, especially right now when they are setting their new 'normal' and escaping press attention is so important to them.

The rumours of a wide ranging interview must surely be wrong on the same grounds. Everyone knows that once you (voluntarily) put aspects of your life into the public domain, the press see those aspects as fair game.

CanIHaveATiaraPlease · 26/01/2020 07:38

The Sun is behind the times - Meghan has decamped so fast I doubt she cares whether she becomes a Brit or not.

I wonder whether Harry feels an affinity with Doria as both of them lost their mother at a young age.

That's the one that really struck me too.

Also apparently Harry is paying rent on a house in Beverley Hills for Doria.
I didn't realise Doria lives in Beverly Hills. Is this the house she lived in when Harry met Meghan or has she moved there since they met?

What struck me is that TM continued to stay at Doria's when visiting LA, them all being on good terms yet TM finds himself in his current situation. If that is the case I would have expected Doria to make strong representations to H&M in support of TM. (I don't know whether she has or not but if she has influence on Meghan then surely she could try and facilitate the return of a good relationship between Meghan and her dad).

It's a shame that Doria didn't pass on the 'never explain, never complain' attitude to Meghan too. That way we wouldn't have been subjected to her whingeing in Africa and she'd also have fitted in better with the RF, considering that is the manner in which HMQ is reported to live her life.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 26/01/2020 07:45

I’m intrigued by the accommodation situation too . I know they need somewhere secure but did the owner know they were going to continue living there past the ‘official' six weeks break? Are they now squatters? Are they paying rent at market rate? (Hefty!) A peppercorn rent? If it’s a ‘freebie’ then there must be hidden costs somewhere along the line.

However I believe I read the property has a guest house, so maybe they are living there and I don’t need to worry so much on their behalf about the apparent profligacy!

I also agree that Harry has to take some responsibility for the pickle they are in. With his background, ‘collaborating with the Queen’ should have sounded like a bum note in a familiar song. (There were other bum notes too.) He should have stopped the madness or at least run it past the Queen before going public so that she could quietly do the same.

And they seem to have chosen advisors with a tin ear when it comes to the British Royal Family and its complexities, which means there was actually a collective mishearing of all those bum notes.

7Worfs · 26/01/2020 07:50

I think they both wanted to get married. I think they both brought a great deal to the table and they both desperately wanted to lock it down and were BOTH terrified that if the other found out too much then they wouldn't go through with it. Both played all the issues and potential problems down and sprinted down the aisle.

This is very well put, anyone who has been in a LDR turned serious quickly can vouch I bet.
The difference being, now Meghan is a household name, and Harry’s downward trajectory has started.
