A thread for those who wish to discuss what's in the news and what your take on it is.

Alternatively Coleman-Rayner were hired by News UK, a subsid of News Corps (as opposed to their regular client AMI) to obtain an ''exclusive'' faked DMG Media get pissy at being beaten to the punch and do their own digging.
However, seeing as the daily Beast alleges that Coleman-Rayner themselves licensed the photos to other outlets for 100k it is more likely that they were acting as lone wolves (freelance) feeding TM to the wolves (The Sun).

I don't see why H&M couldn't be entirely financially independent immediately without PC's contribution from the Duchy. Harry is already very rich, even if his funds are tied up in investments, some could presumably be released.

Without wishing to be indelicate, he will inherit substantial sums from PP in the not so distant future, and yet more from HMQ, and eventually PC. (Although I doubt he will get PC's beloved Highgrove now.)

In terms of meeting their security costs, let PC do that if he feels the need but it should absolutely not come directly or indirectly from public funds. The Met don't want or need that burden. Neither do 73% of Canadians, apparently.

Any other A lister would expect to cover their own security costs and the same should apply to H&M. They do have the money for it.

The last one I saw in the Sun was 'The five times Meghan Markle has upstaged Kate Middleton – and how Kate got her revenge'
I did read that article and I hope that Meghan and Kate are not playing some kind of game of tit for tat. If they are it will only be to the detriment of the RF.

I am suspicious that Meghan's Instagram posts lately have been timed to coincide with when other RF members have been undertaking engagements.
I hope Meghan has read media to this effect so that, if she is doing that, she now stops.
I hope Meghan does not try to overshadow the important events the RF are attending this week. If it happens again I think something will really hit the fan.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 26/01/2020 10:39

I doubt very much she intends to come back to Britain beyond what is absolutely necessary. There is no need for her to have citizenship..

Roussette · 26/01/2020 10:39

It looks as if you were responding to me in your next couple of quotes as you haven:t referred to another poster when quoting. Just pointing out they weren't comments I made

Fair enough, didn't mean that to be the case, I've just learnt that @ is not de rigeur!

roisinagusniamh · 26/01/2020 10:40

Wonder what H&M are up to today .
H will be missing his English life already. He had his holiday and will , very likely , miss , was was normal for him. Being a pampered Prince is all he ever knew....I bet he is regretting the exit enormously.

rockingchaircandle · 26/01/2020 10:41

I know one of the arguments why we should be able to discuss people like this, is the fact they are celebrities/ public figures.

I don't agree with this. I can't understand why people would attack real humans. The 14 threads are there for anyone who wants to make up their minds if there have been attacks.

But if you do agree with this idea, what makes someone a public figure or celebrity and then therefore fair game?

Is Meghan's mum a public figure?

bluebell34567 · 26/01/2020 10:41

in relation to why people post and analyze on this threads:
20 million was spent on a wedding and soon after the bride decides its not for her to live in UK. naturally that opens many questions about her.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/01/2020 10:41

MM has abandoned her plans to become a British citizen - how will this pan out?

Not exactly a surprise.

I’m more curious as to Harry’s immigration status in Canada. Presumably he’s on a visitor’s visa. What’s that? 90 days out of 180? Presume he’ll have to get a work visa if he’s going to work.
So by about mid April, his situation will have to be regularised.

bluebell34567 · 26/01/2020 10:42

i dont think doria has a strong standing.

Roussette · 26/01/2020 10:42

I bet he is regretting the exit enormously

He's only been gone a week or two! Doubt he is regretting it enormously in that short space of time, it's about as long as a holiday abroad!

SunsetBoulevard3 · 26/01/2020 10:42

myimaginarycat
Yes I agree totally.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/01/2020 10:45

She no longer lives in the UK, is allegedly not continuing to get her British citizenship. Neither of them are working but the taxpayer is still funding hundreds of thousands in security.

Yep, there is a legitimate interest in the pair of them.

If this is to be believed M was supposed to be at the charity event with H

TALK OF THE TOWN: Did Meghan leave Harry to face the music alone?

SunsetBoulevard3 · 26/01/2020 10:45

curly That’s very true about Harry’s status. He will have to apply for Canadian citizenship now I assume.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/01/2020 10:47

don’t see why H&M couldn't be entirely financially independent immediately

Exactly. Has Harry ever paid for a thing in his life..?

rockingchaircandle · 26/01/2020 10:48

did read that article and I hope that Meghan and Kate are not playing some kind of game of tit for tat.

I really think that's what you were supposed to hope. That's why the 'journalist' wrote it, so that people would click on it, get them revenue, believe it, get angry at what she's like, and click on the next 'you won't believe what she's done now' headline.

Oh, and share it on places like this, so more people will go and click. Vicious circle. (Although I suppose I brought this one up, so this ones on me!)

roisinagusniamh · 26/01/2020 10:51

Rouusette he's had his holiday, from Thanksgiving to Christmas....the enormity of when he has done will be hitting now.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/01/2020 10:52

I thought these points regarding eligibility for a Canadian visa
were rather amusing

convince an immigration officer that you have ties—such as a job, home, financial assets or family—that will take you back to your home country
convince an immigration officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your visit

So Harry can stay for 6 months.

peridito · 26/01/2020 10:55

Goodness me ,I say

"RL calls so I'll have to catch up later but I'd like to understand where the belief and statements like She makes no bones about not liking Britain at all that Meghan doesn't like Britian come from" .

"I don't read all the newspapers and like several posters I'm not on instagram ,twitter or any other platforms so perhaps Meghan has been quoted somewhere and I've missed it ".

and it draws this response from
@yolofish7Worfs Sun 26-Jan-20 09:33:17
ROFL at expectations that it can only be said that Meghan doesn’t like Britain is if she made an official statement about it. 😂 😂 😂

which to me seems as if I'm being framed as a poster dictating what ppl can say - it's been said many times that M doesn't like Britian and I wondered why ,was asking for ppl to fill in the background
and then other posters pick up the ball

@OViennakatiegoestoaldi Sun 26-Jan-20 09:38:22
Can I have some evidence from Meghan's own mouth that she likes Britain, appreciates the accommodations the RF made that weren't given to other future and new spouses, intends to actually live independently without money from the Royal Family, hasn't used the RF to heighten her own profile and hasn't tipped the paps off

@WendyMoiraAngelaDarling Sun 26-Jan-20 09:27:00
These constant demands for evidence and sources

So if I ask for information it's demanding evidence and sources .?

And ppl have said they don't want arguments on the thread ?

Roussette · 26/01/2020 10:55

he enormity of when he has done will be hitting now

Grin He arrived in Canada five days ago, he's barely over the jet lag so doubt it!

NotEverythingIsBlackandWhite · 26/01/2020 10:55

I've seen discussions with regard to PH obtaining Canadian citizenship and it did look to me as if, he wouldn't be granted it based on points for his higher education, language etc etc
I think Canada will make an exception for him purely because he is part of the RF and they are a Commonwealth member and H&M are mates with the Prime Minister and also the daughter-in-law of a former Prime Minister and it's not what you know but who you know.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 26/01/2020 10:56

@SunsetBoulevard3

He will have to apply for Canadian citizenship now I assume

The Canadians have made it very clear that you cannot be Canadian citizen and hold a title. They’re not very happy about a Royal making Canada their full time home, as we discussed on earlier threads.
I do believe the US is the same; you would need an act of Congress to permit it. Trump will not be doing MM any favours.

So the choice seems to be titles or North America.

Which imho is as it should be.

DandyAndFine · 26/01/2020 10:56

I seriously doubt Harry is regretting the move already, because I think he was very much on board with doing it. My opinion of him is that he’s petulant, spoilt and not very clever. I suspect he hasn’t thought this through fully. But then of course it could work out really well for him.
