Harry and Meghan resigning Act 4: the Price of Freedom.....?

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/01/2020 07:23

So the saga continues
Thé Canadians are not happy about paying for the Sussexes security

I think that will be their downfall. They can’t actually fund the cost of their «freedom»
Other security experts saying that the cost of 24/7 private security is about £4million per year.

Problem is; they have skipped the a Royal fold, and have to pay the real cost of their security and accommodation . They will have to sell every aspect of their Lives to fund this.

Isn't it amazing that people who apparently aren't invested in this convo at all, watch the thread and wade through nearly a 1000 messages before posting to tell us....they're not interested?

Some have apparently waded through nearly 5000.

It's some sort of guilt complex isn't it?

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 15/01/2020 06:01

It's the way they march onto the thread as though they are the only ones brave and moral enough to Say What Needs To Be Said! So full of themselves. Makes me Grin

BeardedMum · 15/01/2020 06:05

Agree this thread is unhinged. Really surprised MN is allowing these. Shameful.

OVienna · 15/01/2020 06:23

Catherine agreed.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/01/2020 07:25

some opinions from US publications

Apparently the Sussex Brand could be worth billions.
I wonder if Meghan had this figured out before she even got engaged.
She’s an actress saying and doing all the right things and playing the victim.
Bless those Markles coming over here en masse for the wedding and begging Harry not to marry Meghan. At the time they looked deranged; but it looks like they were right.

That magazine from the US is just known as "People." It's the go-to celebrity gossip weekly, grocery checkout fodder. That, and US magazine. The 'source' they refer to could very easily be a 'well-placed' British journalist or some such, who is recycling. The Royals sell many, many papers there. I am sure they miss Diana and this is part of the reason they have moved so quickly to conflate Megan's experience with hers.

The people here protesting that we're all talking shite about Meghan and Harry- have you seen the rubbish coming out of some of these rags on Britain and the Royal Family? It is staggering to me, having grown up in the US myself and seen the obsession with the RF firsthand, that Meghan can say with a straight face she had no idea what was coming.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 15/01/2020 07:30

I think this thread keeps going because in the main the posts are not hateful (very few deletions), but despite that people who clearly have not RTFT keep loping on to tell people off (every 50 posts or less)

Which puts the thread back into active again.

EdithWeston · 15/01/2020 07:33

Nice to see Meghan at 'work' in Vancouver

WineOrGinOrBoth · 15/01/2020 07:37

I get the RF are thanking their lucky stars for Kate.

Meghan is a user. Whether Harry has realised that yet is another matter. From that blind it would appear not.

BeardedMum · 15/01/2020 07:39

If not hateful I wonder what your version of hateful is. MN has really gone down in my esteem for letting these threads live.

MrsBrentford · 15/01/2020 07:42

Ok I’ve had a good sleep someone pass me a pitchfork I’ll take over from you for a bit.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 15/01/2020 07:43

🍴

No pitchforks in emojis but next best thing.

The Blind Gossip about PH's Vegas trip disturbs me. It speaks of a culture in which it is more important for a spoilt young adult to be protected from us knowing what he's up to, than "young girls" being valued. Paying people off, NDAs? I'm just no longer seeing PH as any sort of victim. All this chatter about poor him and his MH, may certainly be true but he hasn't been a beacon of virtue as much as a pampered brat IMO. This has a strong smell of Ethan Couch's affluenza defense in the US, entitlement as an excuse for absolutely everything.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/01/2020 07:44

Just been reading the Blind gossip post about Harry in Vegas
So there was more to it than just naked billiards.
The RF sent in “cleaners”. PH later apologised and was protected by the Family.
That is exactly what is going on with Prince Andrew, circling the wagons.

I would have sympathy for Meghan because there have been racist / dog whistle comments and she & Harry probably have been thrown under the bus more to protect William and Kate.
However, all along she had had her own agenda, so she does appear to be as hypocritical as the rest of them.

I look through periodically, and have not seen what was said in the deleted comments. I have not reported any others, because although many are critical, they do not seem to me to be breaking MN talk guidelines.

Hate posts would definitely be deleted (assuming they are reported)

MoonbeamsAndCaterpillars · 15/01/2020 07:47

Ooooh I didn't say up thread as is absolutely JUST gossip, but I have heard a rumour about a different trip, a little bit like the "cleaners". A friend of a friend spoke to someone who worked for him and it really put me off him.

Could obviously just be malicious gossip of course, put about by some twisted Harry hater, but this was word of mouth, not the DM or anything, so it did ring slightly truer for men

JeansNTees · 15/01/2020 07:49

At least Meghan's game is more transparent. The Men's Health grill video and Tostitos advert show that her acting game is weak so she's worked another angle to move up the pecking order. Not sure how its going to work out but neither of them are angels so I can't get too concerned about worrying about either of them, beyond not wanting to pay for their security if they live abroad. The RF is having a light shone into it and social media means we get reminded of all the nasty stuff even as they're doing as much positive PR with other family members as they can.

Dongdingdong · 15/01/2020 07:51

Why has this thread been moved to some obscure board? I thought it had been deleted - it took me ages to find it!

Anyhoo... Meghan has just been photographed visiting a women’s shelter in Canada...

EdithWeston · 15/01/2020 07:51

"However, all along she had had her own agenda,"

Are you really that cynical about her resuming charity appearances?

I wondered it was timed simply to match Prince Harry's engagement due today.

An event which will unfortunately be totally overshadowed by the personal issues, which is such a shame for the hosts (not as extreme as SANDS losing their hard-negotiated TV slots on International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day, because they chose to announce her pregnancy that morning.

Bluerussian · 15/01/2020 07:53

CurlyWhirlyTwirly (love your name)
She’s an actress saying and doing all the right things and playing the victim.
......
I've not heard her say much at all, frankly.

JeansNTees · 15/01/2020 07:55

Bluerussian did you miss the ITV interview then? Can you not access Instagram? She hasn't been silent.

AuntieStella · 15/01/2020 07:55

'Why has this thread been moved to some obscure board?'

OP's request.

And MNHQ are moving quite a few threads to the topic now, esp those which are general discussions with no actual AIBU question

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 15/01/2020 07:55

That’s where Meghan was going on the seaplane ( same skinny jeans and boots)

I like the coat she's wearing in the latest pap shots.

I admit to an eye roll at her visit to the shelter. Apparently they didn't know until she arrived. Is that possible? Surely security would have to do risk assessments etc.
