Harry and Meghan resigning Act 4: the Price of Freedom.....?

So the saga continues
Thé Canadians are not happy about paying for the Sussexes security

I think that will be their downfall. They can’t actually fund the cost of their «freedom»
Other security experts saying that the cost of 24/7 private security is about £4million per year.

Problem is; they have skipped the a Royal fold, and have to pay the real cost of their security and accommodation . They will have to sell every aspect of their Lives to fund this.

@GoFiguire Bloody hell! put a bet on it NOW NOW NOW

GlitchStitch · 14/01/2020 17:13

I don't read US tabloids but I've seen some of their front covers shared on SM. They are saying a lot worse than anything written in the UK press.

Parker231 · 14/01/2020 17:14

The statements refer to them going to Canada not the US and we don’t know why they have chosen Canada or what their plans are.

fallen121 · 14/01/2020 17:15

Scientology is expensive. I think you're expected to spend at least two and a half hours a day practising it and a fair wodge of cash. We are talking at LEAST $250,000 per annum for someone of Tom Cruise's calibre. And he can afford that, he's still working and making several million $$ per movie.

I personally think M&H are too poor to be of interest to the Scientologists.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 14/01/2020 17:17

Calls for it to be moved are just a not subtle way of trying to end the conversation. Very controlling really.

Indeed. I've been on MN for over a decade. These attempts to shut down conversation and shame into silence are relatively new. It's the way it's done as if they have a perfect right to just stop people from talking because what they're saying is "wrong". I find it quite worrying actually.

TheGlitterFairy · 14/01/2020 17:19

CurlyWirlyTwirly (from act 3) - I agree with your comment. She won’t be happy with them either though and will soon be looking for the next thing to move onto.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 14/01/2020 17:19

And as for the military not ranking as a proper job - proper Grin. My Dad supported a family, bought a home, paid off the mortgage entirely and retired with a generous pension after 25 years in the army. Not bad for not a real job.

Alsohuman · 14/01/2020 17:20

The statements refer to them going to Canada not the US

Which is, of course, on a different planet so the US media will take no interest in them at all.

notmoresheep · 14/01/2020 17:21

I suspect Charles in his 70s with no young DC to accommodate will use Buckingham House for ceremonial stuff but remain at Clarence House & keep as the private house.
when the time comes William and Kate will move from Kensington apartment to Buckingham palace with Sandringham as the family house where the DC can grow up, its very near Anmer so a move wouldn’t be a huge step. I reckon Zara will run the royal stud. Balmoral and Windsor will be used as they always have, they all troop off to Scotland in the summer. But that’s a guess for the hell of it, what do I know?

caperberries · 14/01/2020 17:21

It's not new. It happened on threads about Madeleine McCann, it happens on other celebrity threads (especially the Beckhams)

notmoresheep · 14/01/2020 17:21
  • and keep Highgrove as the private house
zafferana · 14/01/2020 17:22

All this Canada stuff is missing the point. They are only moving to Canada because of Donald Trump. If he loses the election in November and is out of the White House this time next year, they will move to California at that point. LA has always been the goal - Canada is a convenient halfway house, not the end goal.

EdithWeston · 14/01/2020 17:24

I've been asking for Royal Threads to be moved into the Royal topic since at least 2012!

I stil, think that's the right home for them - not least because it would be fascinating at times like these to look back to see what the threads of the day were like back when the key events leading up to this were happening. And no one is ever going to plough back through AIBU to find them.

There are plenty of well frequented topics, some of them only coming to life when MNHQ, because if volume of traffic, start moving threads. They're beginning to for Royals, and once a topic is made the home of the subject, the traffic follows.

People will still see threads in Active and Trending, even if they rarely go into a topic. But there are plenty of well used ones, or ones like the Royal Family, where it ebbs and flows.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/01/2020 17:26

Anyone who truly despised the class system would never have agreed to marry into the RF as she did. It would be hypocritical. She'd have said she could only be with Harry as private citizens supporting themselves

Anyone who was a true humanitarian wouldn't have claimed the label on the back of a couple of photo ops
Anyone who was a true feminist wouldn't have made sleazy video for a lads' mag
Anyone who was a true respecter of the military wouldn't have dumped them for a glitzy evening out
nyone who was a true environmentalist would use aircraft like the number 9 bus

But between them they've done all these things because they suit their own selfish interests, then whined when comments are made

And anyway Meghan has now insisted she wants a more private life (yeah, right Hmm) ... and this after barely any time at all in the job

The80sweregreat · 14/01/2020 17:27

I can't see Trump going anywhere soon : (
I think they will be in Canada for a few years yet.

itwaseverthus · 14/01/2020 17:27

I really resent the inference that the UK is racist towards MM - we are not the tabloid press. She had an outpouring of goodwill and admiration and thanked us by banning photos at Wimbledon and drip feeds of the new baby.

I think it was a marriage of convenience (on her side) and she will be off back to LA in a couple of years to live off the money and status. Harry needs to mature and he also should realise his mother courted the press when it suited her - very much so. I know someone who had a close professional relationship with Diana. He said she was a very lovely lady who could be incredibly manipulative. No one is all sugar or all shite as they say.

WendyMoiraAngelaDarling · 14/01/2020 17:29

It's not new. It happened on threads about Madeleine McCann, it happens on other celebrity threads (especially the Beckhams)

Oh I knew the McCanns were off limits and I kind of understood that one really. Beckhams should be up for discussion though. I have a DB story of my own...

caperberries · 14/01/2020 17:30

I have a DB story of my own...

We're all ears Grin

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/01/2020 17:31

@EdithWeston
I’ve asked for this thread ( and the other 3 in the series) to be moved into the Royal Family topic.
It is no longer headline news.
I also agree they will be interesting to refer back to in a few years time.

I've been deleted for it more than once. It's not THAT juicy but juicy enough Wink

kinsss · 14/01/2020 17:32

I'll give it a week, after the Sunday papers, and it will be all done and dusted.

Brexit Big Ben Bongs will be next lol.

zafferana · 14/01/2020 17:33

Yes, sadly another Trump win in November is highly likely @The80sweregreat, but if, IF he doesn't win and if we get a Democrat in the WH come January 2021 ... then M&H will move to the US lickety split, I guarantee it.

I also agree that the chances of MM ever setting foot in this country again are slim. She's gone and tbh the level of anger and hatred towards her now is so great that I'd advise her to stay right where she is. She's burned her bridges here.

As for Harry - I don't see the marriage lasting. They married in haste and now they're going to have plenty of time to repent at leisure and I don't think they've got much in common at all. Plus, I think he's going to be torn up about what he's done and gutted that his reputation is in tatters. He'll be the one flying back and forth and he'll miss all the bowing and scraping and the cachet of being HRH Prince Harry and all the advisors, having a private secretary and an equerry. I think it's going to be fucking hard for him moving to Canada. He's going to get just what he wished for ... but I bet it's not not going to be so great in reality.

Fraggot · 14/01/2020 17:33

anyone who was a true environmentalist would use aircraft like the number 9 bus

May I also add:

Anyone who was a true conservationist wouldn’t trophy hunt.

Anyone willing to dress as, or marry a man who dresses as, a nazi shouldn’t then be so quick to play the racism card.

MorningCalm · 14/01/2020 17:33

*@zafferana

I agree with you. They said "North America" not "Canada".
