Do they have the run of the house? Do you close all bedroom doors? Shut them in a room?

downstairs he has the run, but he cant come upstairs because he shouts outside bedroom doors.

there are various soft things and blankets and sheepskins around, which he rotates through. His cat flap is unlocked so he can go out and come in if he wants, and he has his dinner out so he can eat it throughout the night - he has KatKin which he does eat all of, but not in one big wolfing go

btw anyone want a trial of KatKin message me for a link. I wouldnt go back

Run of the house.

Cat 1 varies between the sideboard in the hall, the sofa, and my pillow, the furry git.

Cat 2 tends to be the sofa, or the coffee table, right on the very edge so she frequently falls off.

No point shutting doors or cat 1 will yowl.

NormaSnickers · 19/01/2026 23:35

Unless it’s warm weather she usually sleeps on my bed. We tried shutting her in the kitchen overnight when she first came to live with us but she just scratched the door so that didn’t work out.

Turtlebed · 19/01/2026 23:35

Anywhere they want to! Normally a bed or a sofa

rockstarshoes · 19/01/2026 23:41

Run of the house! One sleeps in the airing cupboard, one sleeps on the rug in our bedroom!

TeaRoseTallulah · 19/01/2026 23:43

He has the run of the house but sleeps on the sofa . For years he slept up with us but that stopped about 4 years ago and seems quite happy downstairs.

Obsessivepenguin · 19/01/2026 23:47

boot room. I have two cats and they both go there at night. it's warm since the boiler is there and they have a cat flap. If we give them the run of the house they come into bedrooms in the middle of the night trying to get attention.

RightOnTheEdge · 19/01/2026 23:48

Sadly I don't have a cat anymore but mine always had the run of the house.
I loved it when they chose to sleep on my bed. It's so comforting especially when they purr.

hilariousnamehere · 19/01/2026 23:49

The sofa bed in spare room is theirs so naturally mostly they sleep on the floor around it, under the heated airer in there, or sometimes in the conservatory which is cold overnight like proper weirdos.

Their favourite place is on my bed with me but they get weirdly jealous of each other for that, so it ends up being a bit of a one on one off situation all night till I close the door at about 4am to get some uninterrupted sleep.

They do also have a cat sized bed on the landing which I'll try and find a photo to attach but which neither of them will sleep on all night long.

Run of the house sort of.

The kids shut their doors and the living room door is shut but the cat can go where she wants upstairs.

She usually either sleeps on my bed with me, or strangely enough the bath mat in the bathroom

OSTMusTisNT · 20/01/2026 00:00

Mine only have access to the living room and hall at night.

Not in my bedroom as they claw feet, not in the spare room as they chew wires, not in the kitchen or they bat their noisy balls off the kickboards 😂. They are basically a pair of hooligans!

In the living room we have a cat tree with 4 separate sleeping options, a dog bed (for 2 cats to cuddle together, never happened), a dome bed, the sofa and a scabby old cardboard box. Naturally they sleep on the floor..

topsecretcyclist · 20/01/2026 00:01

Anywhere he wants. Currently he likes sharing with me. He's not really a people cat but seems to have mellowed with age (he's 13.5) and does a lot of snuggling up to us now. I love it!

bunnygrav3 · 20/01/2026 00:04

Run of the house. Cat tree, sofa, cat beds. In the living room. Comes in the bedroom to see me to bed then leaves (wish he wouldnt) and comes back to make sure im up in the morning.
Sometimes moves to the hallway during the night

Gamerlady · 20/01/2026 00:05

Our cat sleeps with us and wouldn't have it any other way. He also has run of the house as we leave doors open.

RottenBanana · 20/01/2026 00:07

Curled in the crook of my knee. Until about 5.30am, then he gets up, scratches the bedroom door to be let out. Comes back an hour or so later to request his breakfast.

Live shot attached, pending approval...

Gave up buying expensive cat beds and now have a selection of Amazon boxes around the house. Some have old towels or blankets in but one cat likes us to leave the packaging paper in the box so he can shred it and make his own bedding (weirdo).

purpleme12 · 20/01/2026 00:10

Nooooo all doors are open

One sleeps on the bed with me

The other is sometimes on the bed. Probably mostly on the radiator bed if the radiator's been on or in her cat bed. Sometimes on my child's bed

Echobelly · 20/01/2026 00:16

We've never had cats in bedrooms because none of us are brilliant sleepers and cats are too unpredictable. Our new two definitely are but they do scratch at doors late at night or early morning sometimes. They currently seem to spend their time at night relaxing/sleeping at the top of the stairs or in the lounge.

ultracynic · 20/01/2026 00:21

Usually on the sofa I think, but around 5am he sneaks into our bed and spoons up with DH. I think he sleeps all night, his food bowl is usually untouched and he’s never woken us up just catting about.

Italiangreyhound · 20/01/2026 00:25

Downstairs in the kitchen he has his bed in there and there is a litter tray and cat flap.

Daisychain67 · 20/01/2026 00:29

I taught my cat not to come upstairs at night as he always used to try and sleep on my daughters pillow with her😅 he has a bed downstairs but will sleep absolutely anywhere else but the bed and I leave a window open for him because he likes to go exploring at night

user1492757084 · 20/01/2026 00:32

Inside, run of the house.
If we have the windows open, she is put in the laundry with a cat bed.

caringcarer · 20/01/2026 00:43

My 2 cats and 2 dogs can be in sitting room or dining room overnight. They are shut in so can't go out after 9pm. DH is up by 6.30am-7am to let them out in the mornings. Dogs sleep together in DH chair. Cats are clever and sleep on my heated throw on sofa as it stays warm for ages after I switch it off.

caringcarer · 20/01/2026 00:43

They all 4 have their own baskets which they do snooze in during the day but not at night.

Plump82 · 20/01/2026 00:46

Girl cat sleeps on a pillow that's on a makeup table stool. Boy cat sleeps normally wrapped round my neck!
