Do they have the run of the house? Do you close all bedroom doors? Shut them in a room?

Sometimes one of them likes to sleep on my head, like a furry hat.

Seacatt · 20/01/2026 00:52

My cat sleeps beside me with my arm round her.
She doesn't get out at night.

Run of the house sort of.

The kids shut their doors and the living room door is shut but the cat can go where she wants upstairs.

She usually either sleeps on my bed with me, or strangely enough the bath mat in the bathroom

Our tuxie does the same. I nearly fell over her in the bathroom one night. She occasionally sleeps on the bed in the spare room too but usually she’s in with me because I have the biggest bed!

Both cats have the run of the house, although both DDs keep their bedroom doors shut (I don't blame them!)
17 year old cat sleeps on me, she is very clingy. I sleep fine as I'm used to it.
14 year old cat is not that bothered by human interaction and sleeps in the lounge, usually on the radiator bed.

ilovesooty · 20/01/2026 01:18

One sleeps curled up under my shoulder and the other sleeps on my legs. Once they've come to bed with me they stay there until I get up.

viques · 20/01/2026 01:18

Depends how he feels.

his sofa
the other sofa
his blue chair
his kitchen Lloyd loom chair with the big cushion
top of the landing
under the landing radiator
his cosy pyramid bed outside the bedroom door
bath mat

The one place he never sleeps is his other fluffy cat bed. Never. Ever. Not set paw on it.

not allowed in bedrooms though he would if he could.

My elderly lady could sleep where she liked but during the day usually slept in a cat bed at the foot of our bed. Once I was asleep she'd normally migrate to the small of my back and sleep on top of me all night. Miss her a lot.

catinateacup · 20/01/2026 01:27

In my bed, under the duvet and usually somewhere around my knees!

I used to think cats in/on beds was disgusting and unhygienic (our childhood cats slept downstairs on the sofa and didn’t really come into our bedrooms). With current DCat, a very insistent clingy Velcro breed, I gave up
trying to keep her out on about night 4 after being kept up all night as she cried and wailed outside the bedroom door. Now I (reluctantly) quite like a cat snuggling around my knees when I’m going to sleep. No idea how she breathes down there though!

ToadRage · 20/01/2026 01:29

She has the run of the house but she usually spends the night on her own double bed, in her own room! It's really the spare room but we rarely have guests so she has decided it's hers.

SarahAndQuack · 20/01/2026 01:42

Both of mine sometimes sleep on my bed. One of them was super shy when we got her (she still hates to be picked up), but she has been creeping closer and closer since I got pregnant. I'm 18 weeks now and she really likes to curl up just under or beside the bump. She must be able to smell or hear something I can't; I don't know that she exactly knows I'm pregnant but she knows there's something going on.

Her sister is totally oblivious, and also flounces loudly off the bed if my DD comes to snuggle in with me. She does not share well.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 20/01/2026 01:57

Ours have the run of the house. The little furry feckers tend to make our life uncomfortable by sleeping on our bed though.
The contorted lump in the first picture is me.🤣

In my bed in winter, on it in summer. I leave the door open so he can roam as he pleases, or he shouts to be let out. If the door is open so he CAN roam, he stays peacefully... Sometimes he sleeps with DS instead.

He genuinely really likes cuddles and likes to be cuddled like a teddy in bed when it's cold! I love it. DP does not.

Leavesandthings · 20/01/2026 02:20

Downstairs, because she brings in live rodents.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 20/01/2026 02:20

@RottenBanana
Love your cat - but are you sure you haven't you stolen mine? 🤣

selffellatingouroborosofhate · 20/01/2026 02:50

My his bed, next to me.

TheMorgenmuffel · 20/01/2026 03:00

She has the run of the house day and night.
She sleeps with my oldest son.

Blueuggboots · 20/01/2026 03:06

My cats both sleep in between my legs on the bed.
one of them does like to wake me up by tickling my face with her whiskers then gets under the duvet with me.

They lay in a heart shape. I am dying from cuteness overload.

TimeForATerf · 20/01/2026 03:11

Both are curled up right now on the end with me. I’m menopausal and a poor sleeper so I often decamp from DH and I’s shared bedroom into the spare room which is smaller, cooler
and has a better mattress, shortly followed by both cats.

Where I sleep, they sleep.

Gettingbysomehow · 20/01/2026 03:32

My 17 year old tabby sleeps with me. I cant sleep without her. The young black kitty sleeps in various places but favours the window sill. Tabby sometimes goes downstairs if I snore too loudly.

autumn1610 · 20/01/2026 05:57

Mine gets locked out my living room (to be fair he’d probably be ok now) as he used to be manic at night when he came to me a year ago . So has the run of the hall/landing x2 bedrooms. He sleeps on my legs mostly

Redcandlescandal · 20/01/2026 06:20

On my head

Hallelujah2020 · 20/01/2026 06:41

She mostly sleeps in the wardrobe at night (her choice!) she’s made herself a den in there

From 6am she walks up and down me shouting in my face until she’s fed at 6.30am

She’ll then go back to sleep until later, sometimes only till 8am when she gets bored and wants entertainment

Egglio · 20/01/2026 06:51

Run of the house and he can go out at night. He usually eats, goes out for a bit, comes back in and then sleeps on me if it's cold out, or in the crook of my knees if it's warmer, or in the summer he just sleeps outside on one of the chairs. I am happy with this arrangement as I do not want him sleeping on me in summer!
