Lenny however needs a rest before he starts searching.

Thanks for all your hopeful good wishes.
We would persevere anyway but it is good to hear
we do not need a lapcat just a happy one

Oh of course!
I mean Gizmo isn't a lapcat but he's very happy.
Especially when he's having sex with my duvet.

jellywithstrawberries · 02/02/2026 22:13

honestly @Breadcat24 my old wonderful girl spent a week inside the sofa and washing machine 😂 bweore she ventured out, she became lapcat and chill, my teenager still just want wants nightclubs so expect a lot of window voyeurism when they emerge

Kirova · 02/02/2026 22:13

Esgaroth · 02/02/2026 19:44

Ah but Gizmo was a well socialised and much loved pet, wasn't he? I expect poor little Micia couldn't say the same 😞

I've been reading the TC threads... Gizmo is well-socialised?

My photo didn't work before. Foster cat is definitely a lap cat but it's not necessarily a virtue. One isn't allowed to take off shoes or anything like that when you get in - she has to be allowed to sit on you straight away.

RumNotRun · 02/02/2026 22:28

@Kirova your foster cat is stunning! Would you swap her from my creepy weirdo?

Kirova · 02/02/2026 22:33

My friend said she looked like she should be in a zoo - I think she heard and was a bit offended!

Creepy weirdo is very striking! (And I'm sure not a weirdo at all.)

In his own house, I'm sure he was.

It was just that old meanie Grumpy who made out that Gizmo was unsociable.
🤣

Gizmo visits loads of people in my sheltered housing complex and they all really like him. He also goes up to the school playground and the kids apparently like him, too.

He does have a feisty personality. He doesn't like being prevented from going into certain rooms and cupboards and he does swipe my legs and hiss at times.

But he's genuinely a great cat.
Linney and he get on most of the time.

Your friend wasn't that far wrong to be fair - from those markings Foster Cat is definitely of "exotic" heritage i.e. a new breed created by a cross with a non domestic breed (e.g. Bengal, Savannah etc).

RumNotRun · 03/02/2026 10:41

@Kirova I agree with @Allergictoironing, Foster Cat definitely looks exotic.

Creepy Weirdo, also known as Fred, is a total weirdo but also a lovely affectionate cat providing I am lying down and don't move too fast! He's scared of anyone who comes to the house and will run and hide, but when it's just the cats and me he goes bonkers with toys, especially his ouija board. To see him play, you'd think he'd love to go outside and hunt, but I've tried to take him outside and the air scared him 😁

stormsandsunshine · 03/02/2026 10:47

Snowcat was a bit creepy and intense when I was trying to read in bed last night.

@Allergictoironing remind me how long it took Tobias to come out of hiding when you first brought him home.

Kirova · 03/02/2026 17:49

@Allergictoironing and @RumNotRun yeah, they thought she might be part of whole Bengal, although she's a bit gingery for a Bengal to my mind. She loves playing with water and often manages to break into the bathroom so that she can try to get into the shower with you!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 03/02/2026 11:59

@Allergictoironing remind me how long it took Tobias to come out of hiding when you first brought him home.

Oh lordy weeks! He was shut in his bedroom for about 3-4 weeks and hid in the igloo if I stepped foot inside the room. Then when he was allowed out in the rest of the house he would dive for the nearest cover if I went in the same room for about another month or so. Took him over 2 years before I could touch him without him turning into a spitting snarling tiger even when he'd had Gabapentin.

Then again, took Boycat about 4 weeks to come out of hiding properly and that was with his sister showing him the way.

And before anyone says it must be me, bear in mind I initially had a pair of barely socialised ferals trapped at a year old, then a stray who'd been on the streets for over 2 years. No kids in the house, few visitors, minimal housework going on round them (cause I is lazy lol).

Kitty’s been here a year & a half & still vanishes under the sofa when I’ve got visitors or when she sees me clearing the floor, because she’s worked out that means hoovering.

My sister’s coming to stay at the weekend & at some point the daft cat will have to decide to socialise or she’s going to be a bit stuck.

Breadcat24 · 03/02/2026 18:59

@Allergictoironing You give me hope
Still hiding on windowsill day 4
Eating well though (like tuna in spring water and roast chicken)
And now pooing in litter tray
Husband is building catio around cat balcony (Breadcat's) outside sitting room cat flap

Pooing in litter tray is a really good sign.

stormsandsunshine · 03/02/2026 19:15

Stripey did not have a traumatic background and is quite a people-friendly cat when she knows you, but she still took a good few weeks to come out of her safe room when we first got her. Snowcat used to go out exploring the open plan area at the back of the house and Stripey would cry because she wanted her sister back and was scared to come and look for her.

EmpressaurusKitty · 03/02/2026 19:18

Poor Stripey. Is she still camping behind the piano or has she found somewhere more peaceful?

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 03/02/2026 19:36

It sounds like Micia is gradually coming round.

Just realised we missed the kittens' birthday yesterday. Can't believe they are eight now 🙀.
